and no looking it up!

What is the deepest Pitt has gone in the ACC Tourney?
and
Who did they lose to?

Bonus: who knocked them out of the Big Dance that year?

semis, lost to UVA I think, got under seeded in the NCAAs as a 9, beat Colorado by like 50 and then had to play Florida.

bingo! we have a winner! congrats.

under-seeded and had to go up against a LOADED Florida team. ok let me think of another one.

We hung in that game for a while too. Pitt has been pretty fairly seeded most of the time, but that could have easily been a 6-7 seed. That team was Sweet 16 with the right draw. Patterson, Zanna - that was a good team.

Here’s a question - in the Howland/Dixon era, which teams did Pitt play more than once in the NCAA tournament?

I can think of 4. (There might be more)

Oklahoma State is one.....

I used to do my own bracketology back then and was way better than Lunardi. However, I don't think I missed on a team as bad as Pitt that year. I had them at a 5 or 6. They didn't use BPI back then but their BPI was 9. But their RPI was bad, in the 40s and the committee used RPI almost exclusively

we should not have been lower than a 7. but it gave us an "upset" in the dance. LOL.

holy sh*T how did i forget?! f-ick Kent state!!!!

big red and his shoes!!!
Yep. No one will ever believe me on this, but as good as the Young-Blair team was, that Pitt team would have ran into UNC in the semis and I think we would have lost. This was our best chance to win it all

In the Kent St year, Duke was already out. Pitt, if they get by Kent, would have had a 4 seed IU team, and then fairly weak Oklahoma and Maryland teams for the title.

Final trivia question, although maybe I’m not 100% confident here -

In the Howland-Dixon run, what’s the only city which Pitt played tournament games in twice??

(Actually, I can think of 2)

yep. and if memory serves me correct. Indiana won right before us right? so our path was cleared. and that same weekend, the war in Iraq began.

C'mon Will give us a challenge!

How's this:

1 . Who from Pitt made the All Tournament team that year?

2. Describe how Pitt lost to get knocked out.

I was at the Indiana-Duke game at Rupp. Most exciting college game I’ve ever seen in person.

Place was electric. Then the game ended and half the arena, maybe more, left. The Pitt game was dead from the tip.

I can’t remember that one but I think we lost at the buzzer or close to it. I know it was low scoring.

I thought that Pitt team had a chance to be really good. Durand Johnson got hurt for the year and I think Lamar Patterson missed some time. They underwhelmed down the stretch.

and the following year was the CBI year right ?

First, you have to acknowledge that we played two games in the following cities

Pittsburgh in 2002 (two wins)
Boston in 2003 (two wins)
Milwaukee in 2004 (two wins)
Buffalo in 2007 (two wins)

Otherwise, we went back to Milwaukee and won there again in 2010, and won again in Boston in 2009, so I think that's the answer you are looking for.

Ennis hit that half court buzzer beater and I think it kind of took some of the wind out of their sails.

“What if that shot didn’t go in?” is a fun (meaning: excruciating) what-could-have-been.

in 2004 we had to beat Wisky in Milwaukee!! and we had the better seed.

we poke fun at the CBI year, but that team had some studs on it!

and still won 22 games.

That’s a bit pedantic I think you know what I meant lol. Yes, Boston and Milwaukee.

I mean - you could have added Detroit, Orlando, and DC to that list lol.
