Quiz Time - Pitt ACC Tourney Trivia

I can’t remember that one but I think we lost at the buzzer or close to it. I know it was low scoring.

Here's the answers:

Talib Zanna made the All-tournament team 1st Team. He averaged 17 points and 13 rebounds in 3 games in the tourney that year. Lamar made second team.

In the Virginia semi-final game, the Panthers were down 8 with about 8 minutes to go but managed to cut it to 3 with under a minute to go. Down three, they decided to play defense straight up, and had a great defensive possession leading to a steal and layup by J-Rob with about 10 seconds to go. The thing was, James absolutely drew body contact on the layup and ref Roger Ayers was right there and didn't make a call. He should have.

So down one, Pitt fouled, and Virginia hit both. Lamar got off a three with about 3 seconds but it wasn't a good look.

Sure wish Roger would have called the and one.

Ennis hit that half court buzzer beater and I think it kind of took some of the wind out of their sails.

“What if that shot didn’t go in?” is a fun (meaning: excruciating) what-could-have-been.
I was just looking back at that team. We were actually sort of on the bubble and needed that miracle Clemson win last game of the season. I think the UNC win in the ACCT was the only ranked team we beat all season.

That’s a bit pedantic I think you know what I meant lol. Yes, Boston and Milwaukee.

I mean - you could have added Detroit, Orlando, and DC to that list lol.

I should have said "won two games in the following cities." That's what I meant, and I should have included Dayton in 2009.

what i remember most about that tourney was Talib's monster game against UNC.

we had a HUGE lead against UNC and they had a crazy comeback at the end.

We were winning by 20 with about 7 minutes to go. UNC got it as close as 3.

Good word, "pedantic," although please accept my apologies. Wasn't trying to be a annoying. Instead, I was more just trying to appreciate the NCAA wins. We don't get to do that anymore.

I didn’t mean to be annoying back lol. I phrased that question wrong.

Here’s a question I don’t know, but I’m sure you do lol. In the Howland-Dixon run, which individual player had the most points in a NCAA game? My first guess would be Sam Young vs OK St but I don’t know. I’m sure it wasn’t in the Wisconsin game that we scored 43 total points lol.

Here's what I can recall ...

Young vs OK State ... 32
Young vs Villanova ... 27
Krauser vs Pacific ... 27
Blair vs E. Tennesee State ... 27

I think Young's 32 against OK State is the Pitt record in a tournament game, surpassing Charles Smith's 31 against Eastern Michigan in 1988.

That’s impressive

The Pacific “team hangover” game. LOL!
Chevy had too much fun the night before

Actually ... not really. Chevy didn't party the night before. instead, they had a hell of a time traveling to Boise.

They actually did their "walk through" to prep for Pacific in while in the airport waiting area getting ready for their transfer flight. Pacific had a much easier trip.

Can't find it anywhere but Billy Knight had a lot of points in the East regional in 74. Pitt scored 81 points so Knight had to have a lot.

The all time Pitt record for points in an NCAA game is a tie between Billy Knight against Furman in 1974 and John Riser against Notre Dame in 1957 with 34 points. Young's 32 against OK State is next, followed by a three way tie for 4th between Don Hennon (Morehead) in 1957, Charles Smith (EMU) in 1988 and Julius Pegues (Miami) in 1958 with 31. John Riser also scored 30 in a different game in 1957 (Kentucky), so the 1957 team has three of the seven highest scoring games in Pitt NCAA tournament history.

Thanks. Thought I remembered Mooney having 30 some points in that game.

Thanks — I was going to look it up but you saved me the time.
