Before the game I mentioned to Mrs. FC that the way these games play out at ND is as follows:
>ND comes out raining 3s (hello, Colin Falls) placing Pitt in an early deep hole. Pitt gradually claws back to make it close at the end, but no cigar.
>What a refreshing role reversal. Having seen the last 10 or 12 games at ND I had to rub my eyes at the start today.
>Pitt really lost its mojo when it slowed down its offense in the second half. I explained to Mrs. FC that Jamie was trying to shorten the game because of Mike's foul situation. She said, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead". As usual, she had it nailed. This could have been a 20-point blowout.
>Jeter had a great game but looked like he was out of gas late in the game. Was surprised that Jamie didn't give him a blow midway in the 2nd half.
>ND has a matador defense. Ours is only marginally better.
>Demetrius Jackson has more flashy spin moves than a top and is a good player but makes mistakes that JRob would never make. Speaking of the latter, I had total confidence in the 2 foul shots that sealed it. I wish he had about 5 more years of eligibility.
>The renovated Purcell Pavilion is an improvement over the past but the rest room situation is reminiscent of old Pitt Stadium.
>ND staff and fans are uniformly respectful and well-behaved. A good venue all in all.
