Rocco Spindler in the portal

if the transfer tackles are solid, a five of Parsi - Baer (back inside) - Cooper - Spindler - Stanley, (Gouveia & BJ backing up) could prove our best five in years...

never know with these kids, maybe he picks Pitt to piss his old man off...

What beef does Marc hold against Pitt?

In November 2022, I was in LA with my wife to visit family for Thanksgiving, and we stayed at the Marina Del Rey Ritz-Carlton, which happened to be the ND team hotel (ND was playing USC that weekend). Being a lifelong Pitt fan, I remembered watching Mark Spindler play, and I recognized him in the hotel lobby. While heading out for a walk, I ran into him and his wife and we had a few minutes to talk. I told him that I always enjoyed watching him play, and that he was a force on the defensive line. He thanked me for that and said that it's too bad that more people at Pitt didn't stay in touch with him. I asked him why he thought that was, and he said that it was because he left college early. He was also critical of some of the medical treatment that he received at the time for a knee injury. I told him that, regardless of what other people might think, there are a lot of Pitt fans who appreciated his career and what he did for the team. He thanked me for that.

Our conversation ended on an interesting note. He asked how I thought he'd be received now? I told him that any bad blood that might have existed was probably long gone. He vaguely indicated that he wasn't sure that ND was best for Rocco. Our conversation ended with me telling him, "Well, that's what the transfer portal is for."

I'm curious to see how this ends.

Larry Fitzgerald left early and it certainly hasn’t changed how Pitt views him.

I thought the fact that we couldn't even get a visit during his HS recruitment meant something was up with his dad.
I see the visit now as a clear sign we cleared a hurdle. Hoping it's enough up against Nebraska's NIL.

Different era
But the question was, how would Pitt people feel about him now, in this era? Is there any Pitt player who left early for the draft, who are thought of negatively by Pitt fans or administrators?

believe it has little to do with him leaving early, it is not how Pitt views it, it's how Marc viewed Pitt and Co., how he left and the circumstances at the time... bet that's water under the bridge for a long while now and have no doubt he would be more than welcomed back...

Nope
Just a few weirdo fans

Well predictions coming in for Virginia.
Getting lapped by a bottom feeding ACC school is fun.
Nebraska site feel they have no chance. They said U Va. i think it comes down to the Cavs or Pitt. We cant get out recruited by them and for on a son whose dad played at Pitt and had a nine year career in the NFL.

I actually read on-line where someone posted: “It’s Narduzzi’s fault we didn’t land Rocco! He can’t recruit!” …. LOL! Not a clue about what’s going on.

Quite honestly I like the kids but he was a one year rental that may not have got our scheme. Who knows... I would have been happy had we got him😅but not sad we didn't. My guess is there will be other opportunities to land someone.

You’re absolutely correct. Same thing with 1 year rentals of QB’s. It’s a tumble of the dice with those type of players. Develope within.

He's comparable to, what - like Gabe Houy? Who gives AF? You'd think we were going after Tony Boselli with the way this thing has taken off on these boards.
It’s a Pitt football message board therefore I posted it for the people that are interested in Pitt football. If you aren’t interested or don’t give AF, then don’t bother reading it.

Guys don't go from Notre Dame to looking at Pitt/UVA/Indiana unless Notre Dame decided they want someone else.
He lost his starting job in camp. He returned to the lineup due to injuries.

The injured guys are all healthy and will start on the OL. ND has a lot of OL depth.

That is why guys like Pat Coogan and Rocco hit the portal. They didn't want to be backups at ND.

Both are very good players and will do well at Indiana and Nebraska.

Okay that's fair: I'm sure ND would love to have these guys back as backups. But you don't see too many of these guys make such moves if they're locked in as starters as their previous school.

Pitt has pulled a few linemen in from blue blood schools under Narduzzi - from Texas, Michigan, and Ohio State. None of them came in here and performed all that well, in my opinion. Even blue bloods seldom have five above-average offensive linemen. So if a guy was a backup there, well...

Speaking in general, of course, and not saying that's the case here. I just know that if ND wanted these guys back badly enough and they were slated to start, they wouldn't be looking to transfer down. They're using their final seasons of eligibility to 1) bank NIL from a school willing to overpay and 2) audition for the NFL, rather than risk withering away on the pine.

I agree totally with your last paragraph. Having said that, this guy on one leg would be a far better player than anyone currently on the OL roster. The OL is this team's single biggest issue, Narduzzi has got to stop recruiting stiffs.

I have nothing to support this, but I feel like OL play in general has really gotten lousy. Maybe it's the schemes these teams are running, as opposed to lining up under center and allowing them to play downhill a good bit.

Regardless, that's why I have a tough time believing that any school - no matter how blue its blood - has 7 good ones who are ready to play.

May or may not be better than what we have, though, I suppose. I agree that's been a massive weakness.

You mean the numbskulls posting on their message board think they have no chance. That means absolutely nothing.

Coogan and Spindler are two year starters for ND. In case nobody noticed, they had a pretty good O-line the past two years. Better than Pitt's by a factor of exponents.

This isn't comparable to the career benchwarmers Dooz has brought in from Texas, Michigan and OSU. There are guys who are plug-in Day 1 starters for just about any P4 program.

They had how many injuries on their offensive line? As has been mentioned, they wouldn't have been starters if ND was fully healthy (this past season or this coming season). I'm sure they are better than the aforementioned three guys, but, again... we're talking about Gabe Houy talent, here, give or take.

But we had 1 injury on our OL and goofballs claimed that’s why our offense sucks
