Hey Ron

I'm waiting for your PPG article commenting on how Pitt beat the Syracuse Orange 66-52 in front of 28,696 screaming fans.

Sometimes it seems to me that you have a hard time writing positives about Pitt sports without injecting many negative nuances.

Anyway, you can make up for that with your next positive Pitt article.

If Pitt makes the NCAA Tournament this year, I hope you don't write an article saying Pitt doesn't deserve it.

Oh wait, maybe that is what you were already contemplating.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

I saw last week the Pittsburgh media slurping over the fact that Ron is now on twitter. Maybe ask him this on Twitter though I agree 10000 percent with your post

The PG just went to $2.50 for the Sunday edition. Many of the sports articles are from wire services. They will have to decide if they can continue to pay for 2 columnists like Cook and Collier. Cook should thank God everyday that he has a radio talk show gig.

Speaking of Cook, he is constantly giving free plugs for Joergals in Warrendale. He goes there to drink and listen to music. D BAG

Anybody have the radio ratings for FM stations from 10-2 ? Can't be very high for the fan at that time of day.

Cook is annoying as hell to listen too. His favorite line is to say "he has no problem with it". He has been ripping Pitt basketball for weeks now so I'm not surprised by anything he writes anymore.

The Oakland Zoo should heckle the shit out of Cook so he gets the message to not show up to PITT hoops games ever again!!!!

Cook has been much, much more positive for Pitt Basketball than he has negative. Much more. What did he write earlier in the week that was wrong?

Here's the thing kiddies, since you guys follow Cook you would know this, but he only writes a column on games he attends. Don't know why. But that has been fairly steadfast in his modus operandi over the years. He was the Pens game. He wasn't at Syracuse. So....

Agree, at least they maintain some journalistic integrity. Once you start writing about games from your couch, you are a blogger not a journalist.

He kisses Huggins ass constantly because as he says they have been.friends for decades. He never talks of Huggy's years of zero grad rates and unsavory players armed with machetes. Now that is maintaining journalistic integrity. .Pleeeeeass

Agree, he just has never gone down that-negative, 'irrelevant', 'empty seats', road regarding some other schools, sports when its warranted. All of a sudden, no comment on it any more.

He actually likes Jamie and generally has tended to be positive regarding Pitt BB. He points out the same flaws, frustrations, and shortcomings as those on Pitt messages boards do.

Quit looking for negatives where none exist. His opinion pieces on Pitt FB on the other hand.........

I unfortunately tuned into The Fan last week when Cook had Huggins on. It was around 1PM, I think. Huggins sounded like he had just woken up and was out on a drunken bender the night before. And Cook and FullOfBaloney were just slathering him with all kinds of platitudes and compliments. You'd think The Fan was the WVU flagship station.

What should have they been doing? Insulting him? A lot of you are just fanboys. Emphasis on the "boys". You guys are pathetic. Just pathetic.

Try asking probing questions, like real reporters and journalists do. Hell, they probe negatively with Dixon all of the time. Treat him the same way they do Dixon. Huggins is an out-of-town coach from an irrelevant school. The hometown coach should be treated at least a little better than some coach from nowhere, especially on the so-called flagship station of Pitt.

Ron Cook is incompetent, and essentially makes his living by espousing the worst sentiments of the local fanbase. He routinely exposes his lack of basketball knowledge, and often his lack of knowledge on other topics.

I'll give him credit, it's amazing that he has been able to sustain a career this way, but those of us in Pittsburgh really shouldn't be reading or listening to his nonsense. It only perpetuates his career and will erode your own basketball intelligence.

Again, you guys choose what narrative you want to. Ron Cook has called Pitt basketball "the best bargain in Pittsburgh sports" because of the chance of seeing the hometown team win any home game. He has always been complimentary. If you heard him being critical after the recent stretch, well that is just his job, and no different than any of even the most ardent supporters in this forum expressing the same dismay and concerns.

Look, you can get on Cook for his cheapshots at the football program, but he has generally, and I mean about 80% wise, complimentary to Jamie and Pitt Hoops.

Now the other guy, the Syracuse whining alum with the WVU girlfriend?? That is a whole different story.

Yeah, yeah alright, lets not make him out to be some unbiased cutting edge journalist. He hasn't written or said anything new for over 10 years. And ok he has talked Jamie and Pitt bb up, but how could anyone even think he can be unbiased toward Pitt as a whole after his rant on passing Bradley not once, but twice for other coordinators? And when other 'local' teams have recent bad stretches, he mostly is not critical. Suddenly, not part of his job.

It isn't that Cook comments positively or negatively. His thoughts, either way, are frequently misinformed and/or reductive.

They should of asked Huggy about Holtons DUI 's.....like those 2 assholes repeatedly did about TB. F cook and f Poni.....their acts got very old. Time to move on with their pathetic life's work. Zzzzzzzzz

So when Narduzzi was on, they asked Narduzzi about Tyler Boyd's DUI's? Really?

Cook has been very complimentary of Dixon and Pitt basketball through the years to be honest, even offering multiple mea culpas over his criticism of Dixon's hiring. It's the simple truth, and his criticisms now can be debated but they are certainly warranted as his job is to write opinion and create debate.

Do I think he's kind of a douche? Yes. Do i think he has an agenda against Pitt basketball or Jamie Dixon? Well, no.

To be honest, within the local sports media community, who here actually is an astute basketball journalist/fan?

Zeise knows basketball and all of his comments reflect this.

I think Pompeani likes hoops, or at least his reporting on KDKA would make it seem so. Other than that, none of the TV guys seem to care much about Hoops.

Mueller on the fan says hoops is his favorite sport. He seems OK talking about it.

I got to talking with Dave Mackell of the Trib in 2010. He was the local AP voter at the time, and he was a big time hoops junkie. Don't know what happened to Mackell.

Other than that, the just isn't any high level knowledge of college hoops from any of the media in the city. It just isn't a hoops town.

There are probably about 2 dozen posters (maybe many more) who are far more qualified to talk about Pitt Hoops than most of the media in the area.

I don't think Cook has an agenda against Pitt Hoops. Quite frankly, for the most part the media has been accurate in their assessment of where the program is now compared to where it was. And I haven't heard one media person saying that Dixon is on the hot seat, as compared to a fairly large group of posters.

What ever happened to Joe Bendel? I remember he used to talk a fair amount of college hoops pretty knowledgably. When he was on 970 I remember him doing a fairly lengthy/informative/entertaining interview with Huggins.

Yeah ... good question. What happened to Bendel?

I don't know what ratings that college bb gets locally on tv/radio ,but I do know that neither Pitt or the the Dukes can sell out so how much coverage do they deserve? It's not enough coverage for any of us ,but there's obviously not enough of us to warrant the time/space. Local fans are always unbalanced in their views of how their teams are covered and fans get defensive when their team is called out. Cook was right about the Panthers play let them prove him wrong.

Pitt attendance and ratings have been outstanding thru the years. We have been in a lull recently but come on. Dukes are another story.

Even when sold out the Pete holds 12000 of which 2000 are students that's not many people in an area that's 2 million +. Just explaining why and the media just like college athletics is about $ and if their audience wanted more college hoops we'd be getting it.
