Ron Cook at it again...

There have been a couple things I've disagreed with Pitt79 about, but the bashing he receives here is ridiculous. He's clearly a Pitt fan, so he can't go to his daughter's games? How has nobody else pointed this out before? I don't know any parent that would not go to their kids games.
Especially now that she is 14 and at the high school level, the games are actually pretty good, I would have been really pissed, kicking myself, if I had missed the corner kick she made that lead to a score off of a header. Although yeah, I missed Pitt games to see her play when she was 8 too. But in all honesty, I haven't really missed any Pitt games to see her play, as I have recorded every one possible and watched it later in the day through it all. I do find it ridiculous that the measuring stick for some here as to if you are a "real Pitt fan" is whether or not you are willing to put Pitt above your kids? I'm not. I'm actually more of a Steelers fan than a Pitt fan, but I have also missed Steelers games to watch adolescent girls run around the pitch. Steelers games and Pitt games will continue for the rest of my life, soon there will be no girls soccer that I care to see.

It's funny too because go to any youth sporting event and there's parent wearing Pitt or Steelers gear, lots of times while games are going on. You usually just hear Go Steelers or Go Pitt. On here though you get bashed for being a good parent. It's pretty hard to find something that would make me want to miss a Pitt game, but sometimes other things get in the way, such as your kid's sporting event. Also considering the poor attendance at Pitt games, really low to knock on someone who has a legit reason to not make the games when others probably just don't go because they're lazy and would rather watch the first half on TV then give up on the team.

No one should put Pitt79 down for watching his daughter. But his over the top language and venom to the pitt players is where I draw the line. Hopefully his daughter is not subjected to being called a loser at home when she doesn't perform well. Also his use of vulgar female terms is the norm, but I suspect he doesn't see the hypocrisy there either

I don't know the guy, so I have no reason to keep defending. But if that's the case he should be called out for those things. People should not be mocking his daughter's soccer team and make him sound like he's Jerry Sandusky because he watches a youth sporting event.

I personally try really hard not to speak too negatively of Pitt athletes, but occasionally someone will have a moment where it is really hard not to point out how stupid something somebody did was. Overall though, I wouldn't be prouder of any other team were I fan of them.

There's whole threads dedicated to benching Maddox here today, so I'm not the only one that might call out a player if they actually suck, I don't know what the big deal is? It's just conversation. And yes, when my daughter has appeared to be lazy, damn right I've called her out too.

What are the vulgar female terms Mr. New Age Sensitive?

ND had more athletes. I'm not surprised at all by the loss. That said, I think HCPN did a lot of good things and the school showcased its greatness. In the mean time, UNC is looking like they are for real. So Pitt lost to three ranked teams. There's nothing to be embarrassed about there. Were in two of those games and the team that "out classed them" is a CFP contender at the moment.

They deserve to be BASHED after that crappy performance vs. ND, and if they don't win 8-9 it is a poor performance, only weak ass, homer, rose colored glasses wearing, 6th grade girlie little cheerleader apologists wouldn't acknowledge that. But realistic, true Pitt fans who want to REALLY become the real deal will acknowledge that TRUTH. REAL Pitt fans, who care about the program becoming relevant will tell THE TRUTH and openly say "They are NOT there yet", until they really are.
I don't believe any one said that they are "THERE" yet. But it does appear that you do consider yourself a REAL source of how good the team is, so please tell us all, what does the team have to do to become "THERE"??? Is it win 8 games? Is it win 9 games? Is it win 10 games? Also, what must they do to become relevant???

"Outclassed" is an apt term for what happened to Pitt on Saturday.

To win the Panthers had to (1) come out firing, (2) capitalize on opportunities, (3) catch some breaks, (4) play error-free ball and (5) hold their own on the lines of scrimmage.

Can anyone say Pitt did any of the above even partially well?

Three plays in, we're down 0-7.... loose footballs, we don't recover them... some unfortunate whistles... INT in the red zone... a backup tailback runs wild. We left too many breaks on the field. Combine that with the gap in talent and you get a blowout.

Notre Dame was better on Saturday and would beat Pitt, as the teams stand right now, maybe 7 of 8 times. Heck, their special teams players could probably start for many other schools, including Pitt. Still, Pitt had some moments, which gives me hope for the rest of this season. This wasn't the old Fetal Pitt getting rolled by ND (or Rutgers, East Carolina, Louisville or West[ern] Virginia). ND was just out of Pitt's weight class. For now.

Rebuilding to the Top 10 level doesn't happen overnight. Harken to Majors I, circa 1973. Pitt lost the games it was supposed to lose that first year (Georgia tie aside). But, gradually the gap closed over the next two years.

Let's see the Panthers finish strong (8-4, 9-3) and build a springboard. There will come a day when Pitt is ready for the likes of Notre Dame.

Maybe it's the terminology. And maybe the term outclassed is outdated. It comes down to talent and that's my interpretation of what Cook was saying with that term. Notre Dame has more. Much more. Doesn't mean Pitt couldn't win a game against them but they are outgunned.

I'm satisfied at where Pitt is right now too. There's no crap the bed loss like Ohio U or YSU. Will that be acceptable 2 or 3 years from now? Not for me. But at least so far there's been some progress. And recruiting does seem to be on the uptick but we won't know that for sure until they get some signatures.

Which real Pitt fan did you ask to find out what it is that one of them would think?

;)

Cook is indeed a dik but some of you look for reasons. I would venture to guess he's saying Notre Dame is in a different class talent wise, not classy as in good people and a bunch of gentlemen. And he's 100% correct. I'm still optimistic long term but they are very much in need of more talent.
The man is a professional writer. If he meant what you suggest, he did a piss poor job of it. Sorry - I think he said exactly what he meant to say. And this is another example of what I most dislike abouot his writing: he never has a nuanced view. It's either "GREATEST TEAM THAT EVER WAS!!" or "this team absolutely sucks." It irritates the hell out of me. You don't have to blow smoke up my backside and tell me how great we are - but they outgained us by 30 yards and outscored us by 12 points. Hardly "outclassed". Decisively beaten, yes. Outclassed, absolutely false.

A real fan of any team doesn't sugar coat or cheer lead IMO, a real fan wants to win so bad that they don't care about the feelings of the coaches or the team, a real fan will critique them mercilessly unless they deliver, anybody that doesn't want to hurt their feelings, is more of a friend and less of a fan.

Wife, your dinner sucked and it was cold. I am only telling you this because I want you to be the best cook out there.

Jonny, I know you are only in t ball but you really need to pay attention and not strike out every at bat you fvcking loser. And if you don't like my language, then I am not being a good dad.

jonny, I know it is only high school, but are you on steroids yet? Everyone else is doing it and winning is the only thing that matters.

Before the season, there were a lot of expectations of 6-6, maybe 7-5. So, 8-4 without JC is fine by me. Yes, I know they were 6-1, but this team is still finding its way.

You're just plain ridiculous! We aren't with them in the locker room, we're just discussing on a RECREATIONAL message board, just to pass the time. Yet you expect people to hold back their true opinions as if we might hurt their feelings.

So because your are anonymous on a message board anything can be said just to pass the time. Would you be okay with your daughters coach bashing her play anonymously on a message board?

Yes, no problem, especially if what she/he said was true. I'd say the same things even if I gave my real name, I say the same things to people I know that are Pitt fans when the topic is Pitt sports. I point out to my daughter her screw ups when she plays, I don't just say "good game" and her a participation trophy, I TELL HER you did this wrong, and next time try to do it better. I'm not a weak ass, over sensitive pusssy like most modern Americans, I can suck it up and take and give out the most brutal truth whenever possible, And in fact, even if it's about me, I want to hear the worst, non-sugar coated, so thanks for ripping me whenever you feel the need.

But a real fan doesn't care about the feelings of the team. So bad mouth pitt football all you want i guess since you are a real fan. All I know is that I would never call you daughter any of the names you call pitt and their fans. If me caring about your daughter makes me a weak ass, over sensitive pussy, and modern American, then I am more than okay with that

We just have a different way of looking at things. I WANT the team's feelings to be HURT (REALLY BAD) if they suck, I don't want them to feel good just because they "tried their best" and got a participation trophy, SORRY!

I DVRed it and watched the whole game starting at around 2:00 PM after my daughter's game was over. Let me say, only an A-hole of dirt bag parent would put watching some college football game over their own kid's event, no matter the level, from your comments I assume you would choose watching a Pitt game over your own kid's lives.

you sound like the typical, modern day helicopter parent that is so prevalent today. Are you going to little Janey's first job interview when the time comes?

Exactly. Penn State fans are still bragging that they "played" Ohio State as validity for their strength of schedule. Woo-hoo, another example of getting a participation trophy. Even more truthful because they were barely competitive in the game.

I'm with you on this one. I think our players show more fire this season, but nobody is near the level of fire as Coach Narduzzi. Imagine if we had 22 guys that were that intense. Losing to a team or even the thought that if the game keeps going a certain way means you will lose should be enough to make these kids want to go out and do something big. Really light a fire in their bellies and make them angry. For years, this team looked half asleep during games and showed no competitiveness.

A "Helicopter Parent"? Because I like to watch her play sports? If you have kids and you don't care to watch them play their sports, IMO you are a DICK. It's not even close to the definition of a "Helicopter Parent".

Cook made sure to drop in his favorite statistic in his article: 34 consecutive three-plus losses in a season for Pitt were assured after the game on Saturday. I bet he doesn't know PSU has secured its 24th in the same span. Biggest difference in PSU has literally done everything to try and win and the Pitt administration threw away a decade of football in the 1990s.

I'm still waiting for Ron to pound his fist over the injustice that Pitt fans had to endure back then due to poor leadership, years we'll never get back. I want him pounding his fist the way he did when the sanctions were levied on the Nitters. OK, I won't hold my breath waiting.

Also, is a 10-3 season a mediocre one in Ron's eyes?
