Jeff Capel and Milan Brown were at his games this week at the EYBL. After averaging 14 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 59% shooting after the first session, he is solidly a top 50-100 player right now in the country. Our staff wants him.

Decision will be between Pitt, Marquette, and Xavier. He is a PF in college.

My guess is Marquette.

He couldn't even get North Hills to the WPIAL final. This isnt a player who would be a "plus" player at Pitt until Year 3. Wouldn't waste my time with a player like that. Get 22 or 23 year olds in the portal. There's no point in "developing" a kid like Parham who walks in with a free transfer. We should only be recruiting Top 50s heavily and maybe Top 100s if you think they can play a lot from Day 1. Need to focua more on the portal.

That's not likely. At least not in 2024 unless something like Meleek Thomas does a reclass which I dont think is happening.

If Cummings was taller I could see him making a run that high. After the first eybl session, Cummings looks like a top 75ish player right now. His offensive game is advanced, his dribble drive is improved, and his defense has gone from below average to average. He now has some ability to keep players in front of him. And he is getting more aggressive on the glass. He is listed as 6'1 in the EYBL, which looks accurate to me. He is not 6'3. A 6'1 SG which is what he is, is going to hold his national ranking back. That said, he can score in a lot of ways and is quite talented on offense. He's the go to scorer on Ohio.

Kyle Greene is the closest right now. He cracked the national top 65 on espn and we are a major player to get him. Greene and his father like Capel a lot. Greene is running in the 3ssb, not the eybl. He's coming off a state title win. I can see Pitt potentially getting him and I like the fit.

Palmer looks like a top 100 right now. Want to see him be more aggressive on the NY Rens.

Dunkley Distant looks like a top 100 right now. He's got the most potential because of Vince Carter athletic ability and has a chance to be a major stock booster in time, but his offense is still in development.

N/A on Okku. He's a top 130 kid now on on3. But I have not watched much of him.

Bethea is on his way to top 30 nationally like I said would happen and has everybody outside the blue bloods is getting involved. Sorber has a cb to Georgetown. We aren't getting either and I wanted Bethea bad.

Im not sure how high our interest is with the other PG from Finland. Im also not sure how good he is.

We have to see how the transfer portal finishes. And we will get more involved with stock risers as AAU continues.

Something like

PG-Greene
SG-Cummings
And another top 100 player would be a great class

Well, Cummings is different. I'd take him even if he was closer to 200 because he and his family are Pitt people and Capel people so you dont have to worry about a transfer due to playing time. But once you go below the Top 50s, you are getting guys coming in with a free transfer who are no better than a random 22 year old A10 transfer.

Glad your opinion means nothing to Capel and the future of Pitt basketball. You really need to settle down.

So Pitt shouldn’t have taken Lowe or Carrington

Uconn just steamrolled its way to win the National Championship without 1 single consensus top 50 recruit. Uconn recruits are generally in the 50-150 range, almost all of which are 4 star players. 5 of Uconn's top 6 scorers were all recruited out of high school, not the portal. And 2 of those top 6 scorers / players on Uconn this year were freshmen.

Downplaying top 100 4 star recruits because they are not ranked in the top 50 is crazy talk.

Smf and crazy talk? No way. Why talk about UConn and FAU doing it with good scouting and keeping kids happy

Some of you guys conside UConn a blue blood. Blue bloods can retain players and use the old model if they wish. Pitt is not in a position where they can bring in many HS players to sit on the bench or just play Santos minutes a few years until they are ready. You better be ready to play meaningful minutes from Day 1. Otherwise, the kid is going to transfer.

Agree that it's crazy talk.

However, there's a world of difference between Hurley & Capel. Hurley's UConn team was sold out to being coached up. We still seemingly can't get our guys to totally buy into conditioning.

Capel isn't going to win at a high level like that, imo. I think he hit on his formula this year. It will be interesting to see if he can build on it.

Who isn't bought into conditioning?

You guys are insane. Some people have different body types and metabolisms. Did Ontario Lett not buy in to conditioning? How about Charles Barkley? Just because someone doesn't look like you want them too doesn't mean they don't condition.

Well are we allowed to go by whether or not they choose to play defense? A couple of those guys didn't/don't.

Hinson & Hugley in the same year?

Hugley should have never seen the court this year. Hinson was a defensive liability and had he been in shape, he would have been a much better finisher around the rim. He was just short on several attempts that were easy 2s if he were in shape.

Seriously, for anyone that can envision Hinson playing any role at all in the NBA, do you think he stands a chance at seeing the floor looking like he did this past season?

Hinson was as good of a player thst Pitt has had. He had one of the best individual seasons in a long time.

So one played 32 mpg and the other was injured. Brilliant deduction.

Hugley was injured in early Oct. He was back by back by mid-November and played for an entire month and showed absolutely no signs of progress getting in game shape.

Just because Hinson averages 32 minutes a game doesn't mean his lack of conditioning doesn't show. It does.

Honestly, your point is idiotic.

I will tell you this first hand that Charles did not "buy into conditioning". He was just an uberfreak of an athlete.

Well, my original point was basically that if you give Danny Hurley and Jeff Capel the same talent, Hurley is going to get a lot more out of them. I think that is obvious to everyone.

Jeff Capel hasn't proven himself yet. He's had one OK season at Pitt so far. What has Danny Hurley done? The answer is obvious.

When Capel wins an NC or puts together 3 or 4 20+ win seasons in a row, then we can talk about Capel becoming one of the better college coaches. Right now, the jury is out on Capel.....WAY out.

While agree Hurley over Capel. Let's also put into perspective the jobs. Uconn is one of the best jobs in the country. Easier job than Pitt.

Mike White reached Lavar levels of fawning over Parham in his lengthy article on the commitment. Mike is probably more Red & White (north hills) than blue & white as I believe he still coaches basketball there.

Hopefully our coaches thought the guy is subpar for our purpose and coordinated with our boosters accordingly to not throw in any significant Nil money that direction. Otherwise it’s not the greatest sign if it were something different (lack of money offered or even worse, more money offered, but was still declined, for the rarest of entities, a local prospect we genuinely wanted).

Pitt football and basketball don’t exactly provide many tremendous euphoric recruiting moments in recent years, that’s for sure.

True But this past season has been one of the most entertaining Hoops seasons ina long while and in fact is up there with some of the more memorable Pitt hoops seasons

Similarly Pitt FB has had two of its better years on the past 30 Granted they were not quite as good as Pitt halcyon JM1 - Jackie era years but they were pretty darn good

I get the interest and importance in recruiting but the bottom line is the end product. In that regard I like the trend despite the lack of euphoric recurring moments

Do Rushel Shell and Steven Adams qualify? I've learned to temper my euphoria.

Admittedly, I was pretty excited by Adams. From some of the stuff I read, I thought Pitt was getting some hidden gem from the other side of the world who was going to be the next Bill Walton but with some perimeter skills, too. Love the guy, but didn't quite fulfill my tremendous euphoric expectations.
