That’s not it at all.
1) do you really think Tomlin knows what he’s doing with QBs? He had them under the tutelage of Randy Fictner and Matt Canada.
2) Mason can lead the team to 8-10 wins at 4 million just as easily as Russ can for 20 million.
3) maybe Mason stinks enough that the Steelers are in better position to grab a QB in next years draft. Russ is capable of that too.
4) maybe Mason shocks the world on 4 million dollars and wins 11 or 12 games.
5) all that said I’d be shocked if Mason is the day 1 starter. Rodgers will be here. Or someone else.
1. I don't think Tomlin knows a thing about quarterbacks. Moreover, he has never tried to learn or find somebody who does.
2. Agreed. Take Rudolph's salary..... subtract Wilson's..... and you should be able to have an extra player on the team with some talent. I prefer Rudolph anyway..... but give me an extra 15 million and it is Rudolph all the way plus some guy with talent (preferably a DL). We have Pickens, DK, receiver Wilson for the first time, and, Austin. If as a WR group they cannot get together.... trade them off in pieces. I do hope Wilson can be a true slot guy though. It's been a while since we had one.
3. I am all for a 2026 quarterback draft pick. When/if the 2025 season falls apart..... and assuming the young OL starts to perform....it will be the right time do draft one.
4. This is honestly possible. Rudolph throws a nice deep ball and has shown he can hit open hot recievers in stride. He supposedly now has receivers to catch them. Hopefully the Steelers get lucky with every single O-Line draft pick the last couple of years. But if the Steelers do manage to win 11 or 12 games during the regular season, they might get a playoff bye. Then the vastly overated Steelers defense will collapse against a top AFC team in the playoffs yet again.
5. I actually liked Rodgers, but his schtick is even wearing my ass thin. He and Tomlin had some sort of bromance going on over the years, hence why I think this bs is still going on. Tomlin needs to win right now....and he threw his chips down hoping for something better than he had. His bluff very well may be called and he will running out the guy he thought was worse than rookie Picket and Trubisky.
All the while, Rodgers needs to be stroked a little bit to make sure he is bigger than Tomlin........ what a mess.
