So we know the first four weeks will be ooc games in order WVU and Tennessee at home WMU on the road and Rhode Island at home. Since we joined the ACC the schedule is usually released around the third week of January and for the past two years on the Packer and Durham show on their power hour at 9AM. Got a feeling that the league will schedule the Pitt at Miami game on Thanksgiving weekend since these are likely to be the best Coastal Division teams and could be for the title.

Yea, I'm hearing Nutting should be done making our schedule any day now.

Lol. I believe that the first two home games which should be both close to 60,000 or more will have to be afternoon games since the big bad Buccos will be home for a Saturday night games. I have heard from several that the WVU game could be a Thursday night ESPN nationally televised game.

I'd be curious to know the last time we opened up with two P5 games in the first two weeks. I was thinking 2019, but it looks like Ohio was sandwiched between Virginia and Penn State.

The Pirates home schedule doesn’t impact the ACC schedule.

Sure it does. If the Pirates have a night game scheduled, Pitt won't be playing at the same time.

Do you recall the time when Pitt had to move the night game with Michigan State? The Succos wouldn't change the time because it was bobblehead night.

Pitt plays their non conference opponents on the following dates. How exactly does it impact their ACC schedule?
9/3
9/10
9/17
9/24

Pitt must schedule the game time around any home Pirate games. Three of those four dates the Succos have a home game at night. That means Pitt is scheduling early starts if they have a corresponding home game.

It was released 1/28 last year.

This topic is one of the most exaggerated gripes of Pitt fans every year. The Pirates have been very cooperative in recent years with Pitt. They Pirates moved their 2018 night game to 1p to allow Pitt to host PSU at night. They reached out to MLB to request a time change for Pitt on another big game (don’t recall if it was the 2016 PSU game or another) and were denied by MLB due to FOX’s TV contract having that game as part of it’s Saturday night National coverage options that year and they couldn’t break the contract, so it was completely out of the Pirates control. Pitt plays more noon caliber opponents modt September’s than prime time TV caliber opponents, which ACC prefers to showcase on ACCN or ESPN family in daylight slots anyway. There have been numerous noon kickoffs when Pirates are out of town too and the Pirates aren’t controlling them.

They did move 1 Pitt/PSU game. The 2018 one. Couldn't be bothered to move the 2016 one so it was played in 95 degree heat.

I read somewhere that Pitt leads the country in noon home kickoffs over some time period and you say, well, its only September, but that's 43% of the home schedule. The Pirates will be home for 2 of the 3 September home games almosy every year so Pitt starts off with 2 noon games and 1 Thursday nighter. They then only have 4 home games left which which could be played at a time other than noon. Of those 4, 2 get picked for noon anyway.

My point it that Pitt and television don't decide their times when there is a night Pirates game. Over the last 20 years, there have been one or two special requests, which is absurd.

Bottom line... When Succos are playing a night game, Pitt is playing early and they have zero say.

no one hates noon home games in september more than me but i think it's silly to blame nutting or the pirates. they dont set the schedule. you dont have your own stadium, you run into issues like this..

Unless the Pirates make the playoffs…

well soon enough all the open lots in north side will be garages and this will all be a moot point. or as i like to say, a mute point.

Cooperative...LOL, they are home 3 of the weekends Pitt has a home game and away the weekend Pitt is away. The Pitt schedule was set well in advance of the Pirates schedule. Nutting knows he gets an attendance bump, and that's all he cares about.

you think Nutting has enough say in the scheduling that he makes sure the Pirates play at home on september saturdays to piggy back off of pitt crowds to come to the pirate game after?

Man, this is quite a theory..

Yes. I'm certain they can provide requests to MLB when the schedule is being made up that says we prefer to be home or away xxx dates because of potential conflicts. There is no way they mimic Pitt exactly without Nutting requesting it.

i cant imagine there is much of an attendance boost on these saturday night games following a home pitt game either but i could be wrong. I like baseball and i like the pirates but the last thing i want to do after sitting in the sun for a pitt noon game on labor day weekend for 4+ hours is sit around the north shore for 3 hours and wait for a pirate game to start where i go in and watch another 3 1/2 hour game..

maybe if you are an opposing fan and have a hotel room, i guess since there isnt much else to do. But that's what? 10k fans coming in from morgantown or Tennessee? How many of those are going to a pirate game to make it worthwhile to go thru this whole process?

MLB makes the schedule 2+ years in advance.
The Pirates can request to be home or away certain dates that far ahead (not always granted)
Does anyone know:
1. Does Pitt care about the kick time that much?
c. If so, when Pitt knows actual dates several years in advance (like the wvu series), do they request to Buccos to be away?
4. If so, do the Bucco's oblige and ask MLB to be away or the opposite?
