I was having a discussion with friends last night and I felt like this would be a fun question to bring to the board.
Are there any specific rival teams, in any sport, that you found yourself naturally rooting for almost subconsciously? And when I say rival, I mean actual rivalries. (For example, Peyton's Colts don't count for Steelers fans.)
A Pitt example: I always found myself rooting for the Pat White WVU teams whenever they weren't playing Pitt. I think part of it was that they came around soon after the Big East was raided and looked to be in shambles. It was fun to see them beat up on the other big name BCS schools come bowl season.
A non-Pitt example: I would call myself a casual Penguins fan, but during the 2011-12 playoff series against the Flyers, I found myself rooting for the Flyers. The Pens were heavy favorites and way more talented, but Philly was able to scrap their way to a series win.
