Center Derrik Smits selects Butler for his grad transfer year. Bummer. Pitt seemed it would have been a perfect destination for both sides.

How was Butler's season compared to Pitt's? Right. That's what we are up against.

Let's see...

Derrik Smits was born in Indiana to a father who played his entire 12 season NBA career in Indiana. Derrik grew up in Indiana, played high school ball in Indiana, chose to attend college at Valpo (in Indiana) and has now chosen to transfer to Butler (surprise, also in Indiana).

Yeah, we really stuck out here on a kid who doesn't seem interested in leaving his home state. Just need someone to start talking about the S£C or L$U and the interpretive dance of crippling insecurity can continue.

Agreed that was the final outcome, but his original commentary was that he was transferring out to face better NCAA competition to improve his draft stock for next year, if not just to declare for the draft this year and skip the grad transfer year completely.

If his NBA draftee goal reached, there is a 29 out of 30 chance, his future home isn't in the state of Indiana, so the expectation that he would look at other locations for the perfect fit seemed completely rational.

Utah's 7 footer who averaged 7 and 7 just visited Nebraska. I am sure he was drawn to them by their historical greatness.

His final 3 were ASU, NCSU and Butler. He chose the worst program of the 3, probably because he just didn't feel like leaving his home state. You certainly wouldn't choose Butler if your primary goal was improving your draft stock. More to the point, he's a soon to be 23 year old who will have spent 4 years in college. He probably isn't getting drafted. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he was in camp with the Pacers as an UDFA, though.
