Seth said it...JRob can't create or beat

His bio says he can't create or beat his man. That's not part of his game. He probably got that from reading his bio on ESPN.

He was bad. He is better than that. I am not sure he can't, didn't see him try as much last night. Even young Damon Wilson tried. Wilson is going to be a different PG, maybe will have a worse assist/TO ratio, but looks like he is a guy who will be able to create and score better.

I don't think that is his biggest issue.

He has his physical limitations.

They are there, always. Exposed more against teams like Louisville, obviously.

But, my biggest beef is that he just is not tough.

Not saying he is weak, or soft.

Just that he is not tough - not BK, Levance or Krauser tough.

BK was solid athletically, not good, but solid. Fields was a sub par athlete, and Krauser was not super quick, either. But, those guys were street tough, and JRob just isn't as mentally tough, or willing to mix it up physically.

So, he sort of folds like he did last night (and most of the rest of the team).

This is part of what I am anxious to see Kithkart. He is a better athlete, but I get the sense has the NYC type toughness of the PGs in the early to late 2000s.

This was a game where James should have tried to force it into the lane. He can do that to some degree.

I suspect with all of the turnovers, he didn't want to force. But we had to try to find some ways to score.

All the lemmings who jump all over those who criticize James from time to time should bookmark this game. It's Exhibit A as to how our PG, who has started nearly every game over the last 4 years, still plays games where the bottom line isn't that he was a tad off but that he was completely neutralized to the point he was a detriment to the offense. This whole team is physically soft. I can see how the team may have been taken aback in the first half last night as to how the game was being called but in the second half they should have come out ready to punch somebody in the mouth. Instead they went into the fetal position and let Louisville kick the hell out of them.

In a game where a Team is struggling for even 1 point like last night's, your 4 year starter @ PG has got to look to score and if he doesn't you get that debacle of an offensive performance last night. Furthermore, if he's incapable or unwilling to do so put someone in there who will. Found myself screaming at the tv after another break of the 'Ville pressure "Push it! Go to the Rack!" Hard to watch.

We will look back and view JR as a truly outstanding four year player. NBA players can be up and down from game to game....and therefore, college players even more so. Ask opposing coaches their opinion of JR. They'll be glad to see him graduate. I'll miss him in the lineup, and think y'all will, too....

That wasn't going to happen against this opponent. James doesn't have a strong off hand and they took away his right. Their guards had no problem fencing him in and staying in front of him. They harassed him all game and he had no counter punch. he certainly isn't going to cross anyone over or break down an athletic defender off the bounce.

Did anyone expect James to become a different player?
He's not going to put on a kemba walker outfit.

He's the same player he's always been, which is a very good floor general.. Not someone who creates his own shot.

It's hysterical to me the same people who declared he was a different and better player 1 weeks ago, incorrectly, are now flummoxed their perception is wrong.

Seth Davis would be the last person basketball opinion I would value. James had a bad game and yes he has weaknesses but he also has his strengths. Louisville wasn't a good match-up for him nor will Virginia but UNC will be because of style.

The Louisville game wasn't just that he couldn't create his own shot, as you said he has never been that player. What really killed us was he couldn't even create enough space to allow himself to get us into our offensive sets. It didn't help that we don't have a strong secondary ballhandler at the 2. They clamped down on JROB and choked off our offense at the neck. It wasn't pretty but it was just one game- hopefully.

Nobody could create any space that game.

Why criticize Seth for telling the truth? He has no skin in the game here.

One would think that a PG on this level should be quick and can create

He is the PG because that's all we have, Wilson is young and the projected starter next year, but so far he is the only PG we have to backup J Rob, we need speed and quickness and creativity at the PG position, but as far a J Rob is concerned he doesn't have any of thosei. Next year we will be very young at the PG position but more talented with Wilson and Kithcart, a sophomore and a freshmen respectively

Both points made by the OP are IMO correct. He's not strong in creating, nor can he beat his man off the dribble. The reason it's a big problem for Pitt is we also never seem to have an off guard who can do those things either. If we did, Robinson's limitations would hardly be noticed. Since we don't now, and
never seem to have that off guard, we have to sometimes rely on Robinson, and then we see his
weaknesses. IMO Jamie's priority is to have a pg to run/manage the offense. I wonder
what Jamie would do with a Barber type if he had one. (We're gonna see Barber first hand tonight lol).

With all that said, let's not forget Robinson's many attributes; solid non scoring, non creating type of pg,
very good team leader, assists to turnover ration which is off the charts, good on the fast break, and
a coach on the floor type that IMO Jamie wants first and foremost. Can that type of pg get us to the final
four?...not with this supporting cast. BUtT..NCAA's and twenty plus wins?...yes.

Good post, his "weaknesses" would be neutralized with an off guard like Page who was uber athletic.
