Is the Sheldon Jeter who was convicted of murder today in Beaver County the same person who played for us? None of the news stories that I've seen say former Panther, but how many 20 something Sheldon Jeter's can there be in Beaver County? (hopefully Two)

Not the same person. This kid is from Aliquippa. Look up DelTondo murder in Aliquippa. There is some crazy stuff going on in that city.

Pitt's Sheldon Jeter is from Beaver Falls, so I was hoping he didn't just live in Aliquipa now. I figured that it would have been plastered all over the news if it was the Pitt player. Crazy that there's 2 Sheldon Jeters from the same area that are sort of the same age, wouldn't have thought that was a super common name. Thanks for the replies

I had the same questions after reading multiple stories looking for confirmation. Relieved.

Thanks.

Jeter is a super common name in Beaver County. He is probably a distant relative.

Anyone who read the book on Aliquippa and football and the mills that closed, forget the name, great read. Well you will find out that Aliquippa and the Ohio Valley is like the black West Virginia. Everyone's related somehow. Everyone. There are no six degrees of separation. More like 2.

That book sounds interesting. Is it Playing Through the Whistle?

The Pitt Sheldon Jeter is probably one of the least likely people to ever be a murder suspect.

Now if the victim's name was Stallings............

Yes. I think that is it. It is amazing, it is like the Gilbert's and Jeter's are corp families. Everyone we know who played at Aliquippa is somehow related to these families. Obviously Sean Gilbert, but Kaezen Pugh, Jon Baldwin, Jeff Baldwin, Darrelle Revis, Ty Law, etc....all are somehow related....

Yea, he always struck me as the type of guy who wouldn't murder someone.

BTW, speaking of Jeter, he was on some Team USA 3 on 3 team a couple years ago. Thought that was random.

Pitt seems to be producing a fair amount of 3 on 3 pros. Sam Young played in the Big 3 league, JWF played for the ACC team in the NCAA 3 on 3 tournament and Eric Hamilton repped Pitt and the ACC in the same tournament the next year.

I think the same goes for any of those old steel towns. I am not familiar with those towns specifically but it seems like many of these towns were "resettled" by relatively few families as housing got cheaper due to steel industry struggles. There was a migration from the south (and other places) to these old PA steel towns but it wasnt a large migration.
