Wow. No hesitation to make up for weaker ticket sales. Makes one think it shouldn’t be a big deal for lesser reg season games.

There is no logical reason not to tarp.

None.

“They will use it against us in recruiting”
Not worse then pictures of yellow seats!

“It looks Busch league”
Not worse then yellow seats.

There’s no logical reason Pitt should be playing at Heinz Field to begin with. I’m so sick and tired of this tarp crap. People can just fall asleep sitting closer together, that’ll look fantastic.

if they would just allow one of these undeserving teams to advance to the new bright and shiny 8 team every conference champ makes it tournament this would not happen. Now, of course, the tarps would have to come out for the round 1 Clemson/Stanford beatdown at some neutral site.

Tarping is done alot. The ONLY reason why it is a big deal here is we share a state with a program that is OBSESSED with how many people go to their games. And that has conditioned everyone that is a bigger deal than it really is.
This is it in a nutshell. Pitt should do it and make it a done deal.

The Nits have plans to renovate Beaver Stadium. If the figures that I've read are accurate, it will diminish their seating capacity down by about 10,000 seats. So does that mean that 10,000 people who've had Nit season tickets will lose them?

They don't sell out of season tickets and don't sell out most of their games. I could have bought pretty good tickets this year as I was planning on doing so to get the Pitt game at a decent price and selling the rest of them

Yep. They made that apparent when they were boasting about giving tickets to the military for certain games. When you’re giving away tickets, you’re not selling ‘em.

Great News.

I hope the Pitt Administration and AD Lyke take note of this and look into "Right Sizing" Heinz Field (50,000 capacity) for our normal fan base.

Consider Penn State has a student body of 90,0000 students (including branch campuses) while Pitt student body is only 35,000 students. Penn State should have more alums attending games because they have many more alums.

The Pac-12 is not embarrassed to "Tarp" their Championship Game because they want to project a FULL STADIUM for the TV audiance.

Smart move by the Pac-12 Administration.

Pitt Administration and AD Lyke need to get moving on this.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

Yup. Easily could be done with the upper deck end zone and/or the visitor's upper deck exactly as done in the photo. Instead of Levi Stadium with red and white it would be an old gold Pitt script with a blue tarps. Nice, clean, simple.

Bit, again, I'm firmly in the camp of limiting to the end zone upper deck. But, if it's done, do as Levi Stadium did. No half measure. Either an entire upper deck sideline/end is tarped or nothing is tarped. Half measures with tarping look horrid, busy and awkward.

THIS IS CORRECT ANSWER!

I would say the fact it is the only football stadium in Pittsburgh is a logical reason, unless you're proposing they play at CMU's field or something.

You’re right, aesthetically it will look better. Glad you agree.

In the "sleepy time" game I'm pretty sure the real problem wasn't the venue or the fans, it was the product on the field that was putting people to sleep.

Obviously also a huge problem. The atmosphere at a Pitt football game for the most part is similar to a September Pirates home game in the 2000s. The product isn't much better.

The atmosphere at the game last Friday was just fine. The atmosphere at any college football game that the home team loses by 38 points after trailing 21-0 at the end of the first quarter and 49-14 at the half is going to be just like a Pirates' September home game in the 2000s.

One to games per year the atmosphere is 'just fine'. The others are abysmal.

Yeah, but that is almost entirely due to what happens on the field. When good things happen on the field good things happen in the stands. When what's going on on the field is bad, bad things happen in the stands. That makes us just like every other program in the country.

Part of the problem is camera angles. Most of the time, the camera is aimed at the lesser filled side of the stadium. On Friday it was better. I noticed a lot of end zone shots of the field, which showed both sides of the field, and just the lower bowl, which didn't look empty.

The real reason this hasn’t happened yet-
Is because the season ticket holders in the projected tarped sections revolted and refused to be moved .

This was literally tried to be implemented by 6-7 years ago.

Pitt decided the Ill will with season ticket holders wasn’t worth the benefit

Souf - I remember hearing that as well but desperate times call for desperate measures. Keep ticket prices low and tarp the worst seats. I don't think in the end you'd lose a ton of people (despite the bitching) who would get better seats closer with better view for the same money. If we start winning and generate more demand for season tickets, roll back the tarp just enough to accommodate.

Since the TV/Camera infrastructure is probably fixed, why not flip Pitt to the opposite side and move the kids and band across. Much better TV view and perception.

Watched the Stanford-USC game.

Tarping was done in such a manner you were not aware of the tarping in the stadium.

Great Idea.

Pitt needs to get on board with "Right Sizing" Heinz Field.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

What other stadium should they be playing their games?

Then the concept of "Right Sizing" and "Tarping" is a no brainer.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

You can right-size without tarping. That's what people don't understand. Close the upper deck endzone and non-TV view upper sideline. If its too embarrassing to tarp them, then just leave them with empty yellow seats
