Given the Tate Martell rule, I would be shocked if Sidy wasnt granted a 6th year. He only played 3 full years of college basketball. He was injured in the 9th game of the season a few seasons ago. Sure, he could always opt for pro ball in France or somewhere else but he was quoted as saying they were applying for another year.

Hope he gets it. Older player in 2nd year of Capel's program. Will be beneficial to Pitt next year.

Sidy likely won’t get a sixth year because he actually wants to stay and compete. Martell wanted no part of that and got bailed out by the NCAA.

He was a good player with good athleticism and seems like a good team player. He joined a winless program and wasn’t even a starter, yet he accepted his role, played hard and seemed to provide good leadership. That’s more important than whatever his stats were. I hope he returns.

I completely agree with all of this and I think he's a little bit better of a shooter than he showed for a long stretch of this season.

If he wants to come back and is cleared to do so, I definitely approve. A healthy season from this sid is only going to yield much better results, and he gave a lot of solid minutes this year.

Love his game, think he's underrated by many. If he can stay healthy, then a 6th year of eligibility would be a tremendous boon for the program. With an uninterrupted offseason, you're probably looking at a 30% 3 point shooter who has + athleticism and is a very good defender. He was between 30 and 36% every year at NMSU. I think you're looking at the low end of that when accounting for the jump to the ACC, but a 9% drop screams fluke. Also can't hurt to have a veteran with tournament experience around.

They simply are not going to do any better on a fifth year transfer. The nice thing with him is that he is close to Z and Trey as an athlete, and helped them to be able to maintain their defensive pressure from the guards and extending the court when he was replacing either of them.

As noted, he shot from three well below his career norm. That seems to have jadded people with him. But, again, they just are not going to get anyone better than him as the third guard.

I think Pitt is a better team with him on it than with him not. I think it will be a lot harder to just replace the perceived "dead weight" with JUCOs and transfers than a lot of folks here make it seem. That goes for Brown as well.

Agreed. Those who want to just cast off Sidy, Brown, Kham Davis and Chukwuka in hopes of bringing in some grad transfers are just playing fantasy basketball. Bringing in a competent big grad transfer along the lines of a Maia or Nelson-Adoda makes sense for this team, but anything radical beyond that just doesn’t make sense.

Doesn’t it come down to Sidy vs who they could bring in ?

Having Sidy on the roster next season won’t make Pitt a tournament team .

Sidy vs another grad transfer guard unless they’re a 3 pt marksman ...I’ll take Sidy

Sidy vs a transfer who will add real value down the line ...I’ll take the transfer .

A guy like Kham Davis is going to get recruited over. I would think he would be more likely to transfer or possibly take a medical hardship depending on the significance of his injury at the end of the year.

He was fun to watch Kate in the season. Really explosive with the ball. Even if he does get a year and of course wants to come back, I still think we need a shooting guard.
