Silence regarding the bowl bid

Isnt there usually a press conference after we accept our bowl bid and then the coach and AD go on a media tour to drum up ticket sales. There isn't even anything on Pitt Live Wire. And Pitt really isnt offering a travel package. The "official package" through Anthony Travel is just a link to the Priceline website.

In a way, I think this was the best move. Its the worst bowl Pitt has ever been to (largely because the team they are playing is so bad), so why even try to hype it up. Go there and beat the last place team in the MAC West and try to do better next year.

Not only that, a lot of Pitt fans especially me, are very disappointed the way this regular season has ended, this has been a very disappointing year. 2 loses in a row. And maybe 3 in a row just like last year. Even if Pitt wins this bowl in a close game, will feel like a loss. Been following Pitt for over 45 yrs and over the last 30 or so. Very disappointing

almost every win this year felt like a loss as well.

There is a travel package typically over priced. But clearly SMF is not part of the donor community. I received an email from the PC on Monday.
The UCF win felt like a win. I was outside my house screaming the F word. I mean, I do that after losses too but this was celebratory F bomb
It definitely did at the time especially with how they were regarded at the time. Probably our best W of the season even though their season fell short of expectations. Ohio, Delaware, Duke and Syracuse all left me feeling like we should've blown them out.

All due respect,

Ohio, Delaware, Duke, Syracuse left me feeling like we aren't very good.

yeah i guess it was all the stupid stuff we did in those games.Things like all the penalties or the stupid scheme decisions like vs Syracuse where we play man press coverage on 4 and 25 which lead to PI and eventually a cuse TD.

He's not part of the PITT ticket purchasing from the official PITT ticket office, he doesn't purchase PITT merchandise from the official PITT source, he doesn't attend games for any sport, and of course he doesn't donate.

But he spends most of his day on this site posting garbage here and in the Locker Room.

The less attention the better. It's a bowl game in Detroit. Meanwhile, teams from C USA and the MAC have a bowl game in the Bahamas.

Yes, but aren't large parts of the Bahamas still reeling from the CAT 5 hurricane? Most of the areas still without power.

I understand that this too could describe Detroit...

I am a season ticket holder and PC member. I did not get an email about a travel package this morning so I don't believe you

The lack of bowl bid hype not too surprising. The silence so far regarding anything FB from the AD a little interesting maybe.
IMO its very interesting.
Different people have different tolerances for failure.
I believe Narduzzi promised more and failed to deliver by a lot.
He also lead the team in some awful and embarrassing performances like VT, Miami, and BC in that order.

Lyke may have run out of patience with the Duzzie.

The EMich coach may be getting some phone calls.
Lyke hired and knows him, he'll come cheap, he wont go anywhere anytime soon and Lyke figures he can do as well as the Duzzie for less. Sorta like the Nutting School of Thinking.

He coached a team that finished tied for last in the MAC West.

He coached a team going to the same bowl as PITT. So PITT and the Duzzie near the same level or they wouldn't be playing eachother in a bowl game.
PITT was a few games, maybe yards, away from a really bad finish, one worse than our actual bad finish.
The Duzzi is expensive for what he produces so who knows.

If we hired the coach of one of the worst teams in the MAC, this site would crash.

I'm more mad at the conference for forcing this bowl on us. I understand Pitt did not meet expectations this year. But a 7-5 team that was playing for the division title the 2nd to last game of the year deserves a better bowl than playing the worse eligible bowl team in Detroit.

Beat BC at home on senior day when you are a double digit favorite and then we aren't in this position.

That's fine, and I understand the rules regarding being 8-4 instead of 7-5. But just because every 6-6 team could be picked over a 7-5 Pitt team doesn't mean they should. It's clear the ACC forced UNC on the military bowl when they wanted us again. The conference has and will always look after its legacy southern teams first and that's not how its supposed to be.

The Military Bowl did not want us again. UNC fans are excited about Mack Brown, Sam Howell, almost beating Clemson and beating rivals South Carolina, Duke, and NC State. In their eyes, it was a good season and because of that, they will sell far more tickets than Pitt would have. From a business standpoint, they made the right choice.

Wait, a win isn’t a win unless it feels good? Are we talking “drinking a cold beer on a hot day good” or is it “I don’t want to be a fan of a team that wins close games good”? Does this mean some losses feel good because they were almost wins against the right teams?

Seriously, bravo, way to keep moving the bar.

They were moral losses I guess.

If Duzzie was doing his job the Military Bowl should have excited about Pitt, the Pitt coach, the Pitt team and the fans that follow a successful team to bowl games.

But Duzzie didn't do that, the team wasn't exciting, the season was a disappointment, and the season finish was a disaster.

So you’re telling me that if this 7-5 Pitt team were playing Eastern Michigan in a bowl game in the Bahamas, all would be ok?

I know that the Bahamas is a better vacation spot than Detroit (or Annapolis or Nashville or NYC or Jacksonville or....), but unless one specifically plans a vacation in advance around Pitts bowl game, Detroit actually is better for the locals because it’s in driving distance

If you are going to play a last-place MAC team, it might as well have been in the Bahamas. That is better than Detroit

It's not winning close games that concerns me, its the way we almost lost them with embarrassing second half meltdowns . Complete breakdowns in focus an discipline - it almost cost us dearly in a couple of wins and definitely contributed to a couple of losses. I don't care if we win a hypothetical game 52 - 51 in a hard fought game back and forth, but blowing a 45 point first half advantage is problematic. Anyone who doesn't acknowledge that isn't a very good coach IMO - especially when it happens repeatedly and has come to, in some ways, define the program.

I use this analogy - I shoot clays as a hobby. Lots of them. Sometimes I'm actually pretty good at it. Sometimes I'm not. There are ALWAYS guys who say "a hit is a hit" when you you barely chip a target. That's true on the scorecard but it also tells you something. Do it a couple of times, and you'd better adjust something because eventually it will lead to a miss. I'm a lot like Pitt - I only have so much talent - I can't afford to get lazy and ignore the signs that something requires adjustment. I'll take those chips every time, but I'm under no illusion that I can win consistently like that.
