SMF Bowl Projections (end of regular season)

I was there, and that was very well attended by Pitt fans.
That would be expected Navy isn't a traditional U with tons of low life and regular fans since very few select, wonderful , exceptional, better than almost everyone on this board, people get to attend the academy.

Pitt has sold out their allotment every bowl under Narduzzi and had a nice turnout at GT when I went

Maybe update your gripe a bit ?

My sense is that Pitt fans have stepped up to attend bowls to show support for the program under Narduzzi. The problem is, that goodwill isn't going to last when he keeps losing those bowls to less than heavyweight opponents. Finishing the season by getting shutout and then an uninspired loss to a sub-500 team isn't going to do anything to foster school spirit either. There are a shortage of fans who like spending a grand to shoe-horn in a trip around the holidays when they did that last year to see a loss and when sentiment is expectation of another.

Maybe Pitt only gets hundreds of fans to go, not thousands??
I haven't been to a bowl game since Detroit in 2013, so I can't attest to the past 6 years. Still believe that Pitt would've had a huge turnout in 2009 for the BCS Bowl, but stupid Mardy, Kelly and Pike.

FSU went to the Independence 2 years ago. They arent going there again. I realize that Pitt sold a lot of tickets to the Military Bowl but if you are them, do you REALLY pass on Florida State for Pitt? How many times will that bowl be able to land basically a blue blood program like that? Also, they could take Miami which has a large NE corridor fanbase.

As for Joe Giglio, he thinks the Pinstripe will take 6-6 UNC over 7-5 Pitt but the Military will take 7-5 Pitt over 6-6 FSU. Splain that one.

FSU fans aren't traveling to Annapolis for the Military Bowl. They didn't even show up to their own stadium to watch that team.

actually the midshpmen were on break, so there wasn't any pomp & circumstance like a regular season game. Very few were in attendance, don't blame them it is a grind and they need a well deserved break. But Navy does attract "casual" fans from that area as well. We had more that day.

I've said that for a long time....have a season where we are rolling and then see what the attendance would be. If we beat WVU & Cinci, were probably ranked close to the top 5 and playing Florida in a BCS bowl, I think it would have been well attended. Winning a 4-way tie with an 8-3 season and going to the Fiesta Bowl? Not sure that season had everyone pumped up and besides we let our coach walk after that magical season.

So you think the Military Bowl picks Pitt over Florida State? We were 8-4 and hyped up after Year 1 of Narduzzi last time. There is a much different feeling around the team. The game is December 26. Pitt wont sell more than 3000 tickets this time.

You'd think not. But they passed (or were directed not to) on 6-6 FSU in 2017 for 6-6 Va. Guess its just not that black and white anymore for these bottom barrel bowls with 7-5,6-6 teams anymore. Especially ones with small allotments.

does attendance even matter that much these days, especially for the ESPN-owned bowls?

Virginia in their first bowl in a decade was a no-brainer. A depressed Pitt fanbase wont sell many more tickets than a depressed FSU fanbase. They arent picking Pitt over Florida State or Miami. Neither is the Pinstripe Bowl.

Im calling bull shit on the premise that these ESPN bowls and they are almost all ESPN bowls need "fans that travel" it is programming for the month of December for ESPN and gets decent ratings. Its TV driven. the douche bags in their goofy sports jackets mean little. ESPN be calling the shots. If Pitt get good tv ratings it will get the call.

It matters a lot and ESPN only owns the G5 bowl games. The game is supposed to get the bowl director's rich so every ticket sold makes them that much richer. Whoever is going to sell the most tickets is who they will pick.

Just look at the committee for the Quick Lane Bowl: Greektown Casino, Westin, VisitDetroit.com, Detroit Sports commission, and then Wells Fargo, the food bank (token non profit), and Big Boy.

It's mostly just a tourism board.

3000? They'll be lucky to get into 4 digits to 1000. The way they play and with their history of losing to inferior teams, that would be well attended.

Not sure what you mean but when that tv schedule comes out it will be heavily laden with ESPN games. heavily, they call the shots..

ESPN owns many bowl games, mostly the ones that G5 teams go to like the Bahamas Bowl. For the ones that are owned by private non-profits, their #1 objective is to make a few executives rich.

Yes, and being a bowl expert you should know the game is on the 27th.

That committee has all of their bases covered! Gamble and have a pre game meal at the Greektown Casino, hit up a Wells Fargo ATM to get some cash since you have a bad run at the blackjack tables, get some snacks during the game at the concession stands Big Boy operates, then head over to your room at the Westin and call it a night.

Military people aren't better than anyone else. Sick of all this constant slurping of the Military, there are plenty of lowlifes in the military and at the academies too. Within the last few years Navy has had cadets busted for sexual assault and drug dealing and all the stuff regular scumbags do. Please don't get TRIGGERED, it's the TRUTH.

That said, I'm hoping for the Military Bowl, it's a great venue for a game.

Mcmurphy now saying Military...

Military Bowl – (ACC vs. American)
Projection: Pitt vs. Temple

Mandel also, accept against Navy. I think Giglio says that too. Those three seem to put the most effort into the predictions so probably a good idea to start planning for Annapolis. Although I think those Military bowl execs who are so giddy about Pitt and having a repeat of 4 years ago selling out the allotment might be in for a disappointment this time. Especially if it is against Temple (no offense to our resident Temple alum on this board).

Mandel revamped his predictions after last night.....it's not good. The Independence bowl, ugh. I really can't see that one happening over the Military.
