a severe intestinal virus. You know. Crapping and puking for a couple of days. Getting totally dehydrated. Finally getting the runs stopped but still feeling week and dehydrated. Yes?

Then why is it so hard to believe that Whitehead had the same thing and was OK to stand around but at game time was still to week to play a football game.

Human beings are still human beings, even if they play for Pitt.

Huh? Yeah, I've had that. Sucked. Had to go the ER dye to dehydration. But, what? Is it rumored that Whitehead had that?

Why? Probably because he would have said the kid was sick and not posturing on whether he was going to start or be available this week.

Getting back to the issue of dealing with the press and the public generally-you want to prevent peoples' imaginations from running out of control, then you tell the truth. You sand bag people you are guaranteed to trigger rampant speculation. So.........here we are.

Here is how the Pitt beat writers should handle the situation with Narduzzi.

STOP ASKING HIM OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS!

Example: Will Whitehead be available to play against GT?

Here is what you ask him:

Any truth to the rumor that Whitehead is transfering?

Any truth to the rumor that Whitehead has been demoted for poor play?

Any truth to the rumor he's quitting football and becoming a monk?

He'll get tired of that and tell the press to stop listening to rumors.

The response back to Narduzzi would be:

"Well, this is what happens when questions aren't answered by the head coach. It creates gossip and rumors."

Can I ask why the Pgh media is completely entirely overly obsessed with Narduzzis reluctance to answer player questions???

They never have a problem with Tomlin... and certainly never bitched over the paterno

Nothing can prevent some peoples imaginations from running wild. Guarantee if Narduzzi said he was sick the first reaction would be fans saying "bullsh*t, he's lying". Better to say nothing. I guess I love Duzz doing that because it doesn't bother me like it bothers some others.

Answer to your open ended questions:
"As I've told you before, I will not comment on personnel issues. Next question(s).

Now, WBR, you're smarter than that!

One of Pitt's best players spent the last game standing on the sideline with his helmet off. Don't you think that is a story? Every Pitt fan wants to know what is wrong, and it is the job of reporters to try to find out. That is not obsession, that is doing a job.

NO I dont. Pitt won.

Narduzzi made it clear he wasn't going to comment on the reason why Whitehead didn't play and the reason why he's listed as a co-starter. Period. He owes no explanation whatsoever to anyone anyways, it's not a job requirement for him to give information that may be quite personal, embarrassing to the player and team, or helpful to the opponent.

I may not love it, in fact I'm just as curious as the next person and I wish he'd come with the info. But acting as if the media is somehow at fault because they didn't scream "come clean" at him is a little silly.

There are three possible reasons Whitehead didn't play:

1. Sick

2. Injured

3. Disciplinary

I'll take door number 3.

No

Yep as coach I would want a sick player with severe intestinal issues to be around the team, in the locker room and on the sidelines as much as possible. I would balance throwing off the other team over the very real possibility of making others sick.. Certainly wouldn't want him at home resting and taking fluids to ensure he plays the next game.. Yep after careful review of the evidence,he was indeed sick

No. Now the rumors are swirling about anything and everything. Literally every single week NFL and NCAAF players are listed limited or out because of sickness. There would have been no speculation about him transferring or having a discipline issue or anything else. Hell, this would have been the easiest lie he could have told, even if it was BS.

If he was sick, it was most likely a case of the Brown Bottle Flu, or the weed equivalent thereto.

Several years ago, I had it, started after I had a what was said to be a severe case of the flu, test showed it was cause by a bacterial infection caused by a previous illness, solved by a heavy dose of several days of antibiotics.
