Iowa State is ranked #4 in the nation and have been a power over the past few years. Iowa has not and is a bit of a has been. I understand the instate rivalry thing, but this would be like we storming the court against Penn State circa 2009.

We didn't even do that after beating #1 UConn.

they were losing by 20 and came back to win against a good Iowa team. Maybe they should have just exited the arena and started setting couches on fire.;)

Yea. Bah humbug. Except that their beat reporter got trampled and suffered a broken leg. But let it continue. Maybe people will come to their senses when someone gets trampled in one of these idiotic stampedes and dies.

Yeah, storming the court in a situation like this is absurd and maybe this unfortunate incident will put an end to the practice.

Clearly that is all a lie. Because people on this very message board have ridiculed the notion that court storming is stupid in part because someone could get hurt. They assured us that there was just no way that something like that could happen. This is probably all just a play for sympathy by the reporter.

I get that it's a rivalry game. I get that you were down 20 - they really hustled to get it back and give themselves a shot. But your Iowa State. They were Iowa. I don't really care about court storming enough either way - but it was Iowa...

And that was exactly my point. I appreciate some situations that just are natural say Robett Morris beating Kentucky.

But when you are a top 5 team and have been good for few years it just seems contrived and unoriginal.

People get hurt all the time so what!
Keep this practice in place for the excited fan bases. Good for them!
Sometimes at the Pete you can hear a " pin drop."
Some of the posters on this site have said them don't like people cheering and standing up for great plays???
Its not church so let it rip, support your team, and if a court storming is in order have at it!

Yeah I remember all those wins Pitt has had over top-10 teams. There were so many pins dropping in the Pete, it almost sounded like raucous applause... but clearly that could not be the case.

I have posted on this site for about 10 years. I cannot recall once any poster, positive or negative, who was against cheering great plays, or standing up. That just sounds made up.

p.s., I've let it rip more than once at church, I have to admit.

Maybe they should have just handed a ball to the ref and acted like they've been there before?

WOW, I just don't get why people CARE about how people celebrate.

Do you really see a need to analyze this minutia?

More recently we've become a more subdued fanbase except for the Zoo which isn't good!
I'll find the thread where a string of posters were anger because people were standing up in front of them cheering for great PITT action. It got a lot of support. Well stand up and be part of the celebration! That my point.p.s.
As far a letting it rip at church watch the chili, refried beans, and tacos they'll make that happen all the time.

They can be an excited fanbase from their seats. And excusing this reporter's injury by saying "people get hurt all the time" is absolutely moronic.

So you've never watched football fans end up on the field or basketball fans ending up on the court its a frequent occurance at big games. I guess everyone should just sit in their seats after a hugh win and clap their hands and head for the parking lot. I rest my case about subdued PITT fans.
Wow hate to be with you on New Years Eve!

Reporter was seriously injured. The day is coming when somebody dies.

All because a #4 ranked team defeated their unranked rival at home.

Sorry.... You can be raucous without storming the court or pulling down goalposts.

If you do it after beating an unranked team at home when you're 4th-ranked... when won't you do it?

I think Pitt fans should've stormed the Consol court last week when we blew out Duquesne. After all, they're an unranked rival.

I remember all those Pirates fans who stormed the field after beating the Cardinals last July. And all of those great Pens and Steelers games of the last couple decades. It happens almost daily I think. They just can't keep the fans off the field of play with those great, energized fanbases.

Well its more of a college young persons thing. Some of those fans you mentioned have a had time getting in and out of their seats for normal activities.
There would a lot of "beef" flying down the steps to the court, area, field, etc at those games. That wouldn't be good.

Please show me where I'm saying fans should sit and clap. Be excited! Do what you want. But storming the field/court is dumb.

And FWIW, NYE is a stupid manufactured holiday. And I'm not about to spend an extra cover charge to go sit in an overcrowded bar. Passssss.

That's bad for the reporter but I don't think there's a lot of serious injuries or near death experiences when college crowds celebrate on the field or court.

I guess I'm getting older but what happened last night in Ames was unacceptable. You need to have security around the court. I remember Joe Bendel when he was hosting his afternoon show telling the story about a Pitt VS Syracuse and Syracuse won and they rushed the court he had people kicking him in press row he was actually afraid he was going to get hurt.

Yes, but what does this all have to do with Micah Mason, I ask you?

Ummm ... no, NO, NO!!

If you are only going to grace us with one post a month, it damn well better be an offering that gives us your typical better understanding of the game, instead of this snarky quip mocking those with inferior knowledge.

Oh ... and it should also include some sort cartoon.

Your statement - People get hurt all the time so what - might be one of the dumbest & most ignorant things ever posted on this board. And that's no easy feat.

And Yea. That's exactly what they should do. Jump up and down and scream within the confines of your personal space. There is no need for anyone to stampede on to a court/field. It's dangerous. A few years ago (I think it was at Wisky) several people got badly injured either being pinned against railings or getting annihilated after those railings gave way. No spectator has any business on a field or court of play. Ever.

And good comparison between celebrating on NYE to court storming.

So one Sunday about 5-6 years ago, I was at an early Sunday Mass. Some poor guy let one out at a very quiet time. A little kid in front of me whispers to his Dad (and we all know how loud kids can get when they're trying to be quiet), "Dad, did that guy just FART?". Could have heard a pin drop in the church. I totally lost it. Good times.

Actually, there HAVE been a number of people seriously injured by falling goal posts. I kid you not.

I am fairly often brought to my feet by a spectacular play or at a crucial juncture. I jump up, cheer and yell incoherent things when the spirit moves me. But overall, standing for more than a few seconds is rude and inconsiderate unless the entire crowd is on their feet so you aren't blocking anyone's view.

If the people behind me are standing, I will stand. If not, I sit back down quickly. It's just common courtesy. I'm a big guy. Even if the guy behind me is standing, I can be obstructing his view if I'm on my feet. I'm as passionate as a fan as the next guy, but that's no exchse to act like a jerk.

It's the reason that a lot of colleges now use collapsible goal posts, so if the students rush the field they can drop the goal posts down to the ground in a few seconds and keep the students from pulling them down onto someone's head.
