I mean it's Christmas time. It looks like we are going to have a White Christmas for the first time this decade.

Pitt won. Pitt beat a good team. Pitt came from behind.

And.............................

Penn State lost to Rider.

LOL. In Penn State's best season, they really aren't much better off than we are in our worst.

Are you seriously talking shit about a team that beat Pitt by 30?

Also, you and I apparently have very different definitions of "good team" because I don't consider a team that hasn't beaten anyone in the top 100 to be in consideration for that adjective.

edit: Fun fact. On Tuesday Pitt beat Delaware St. by 6 points. Delaware State is ranked dead last (351) in the Massey Composites and most other Division 1 ranking sites.

Merry Christmas

Who cares. We knew the bottom was falling out this year. We have an epically young team...maybe the youngest not just this year, but the youngest in quite a few years. In a year in which we knew wins would be tough, I'm enjoying the ride for different reasons. To be honest, this is certainly more enjoyable than last year. These kids are likable and want to play for each other, the school, the fan base and for the coaching staff.

I'm actually savoring tonight. I saw some young men who made a lot of mistakes but kept fighting. I saw signs of improvement form the beginning of the year and skillsets that may be developed in the future. I even saw some late game "onions!"

The team is going to lose a lot this year, but many here have been through lean years with all Pittsburgh sports teams. Part of the fun of a rebuilding project is watching young player and team development. And in basketball, the climb from the bottom can happen much faster than in other sports.

Yeah and let’s not talk about the bad losses by UNC, Kansas, Arizona and others because that doesn’t count. It’s only when Pitt loses or wins by a smaller amount does it matter. Damn coaching I tell you.

This argument held water 7 years ago or so when pitt was losing in the tournanent and was one of the best teams in the country.

Comparing pitt to UNC right now is comical.

This is our worst team in like 40 years. You guys have one of your best teams in 40 years and it wouldn't be better than most of our teams over the last 40 years.

Ummm, I went to Pitt, my mother went to Pitt , I have several family members that are faculty at Pitt, I couldn't be much more Pitt if I tried.

Please don't lump me in with PSU fans just because I pointed out how ridiculous it is for you to talk shit about a team that handed us the second biggest loss that I can remember...I have tried to forget everything pre-Howland.

But hey, at least it wasn't 50 points, Stallings is too good to let that happen...right...right...

edit: Also wish people would quit blowing smoke about how young this team is. Pitt has one of the OLDEST teams in college basketball with an average age of almost 23.

Let's see a source for this claim. I can't imagine a team that starts 4 freshman being one of the "OLDEST teams in college basketball".

You initially said the average age of the Pitt team was 24 and I see you edited that to 23.

If you count the 12 scholarship players (I did't count Ellison who is the 13th scholarship player because he is redshirting and not playing this year), the average age of those 12 scholarship players is 20.3 years old. Ellison is 21 years old just for the record.

My average age was calculated using the birth dates of each player listed in the Pitt website.

Avg. age of 23? I'm not on the roster to bring the average age up that high.

And you are still wrong. That's probably last year's average age. Pitt hasn't played a player who is 23 this year.

Boykin and Luther are 22 and the oldest players on the team

Common sense should have entered your mind before posting something as idiotic as Pitt having a "old" team this season.

Actually Milligan is 24 years old, but as I stated above, the average age for the 12 scholarship players that are playing this season is 20 years old (actually 20.3)

Yeah, I forgot about JM. Even with him the average age is just 20. Good catch.

First, I never wrote 24. Black_man was kind enough to quote that part of my post well after my final edit. I was lifting the information directly from the CBS roster breakdown.

Second, I was wrong for not looking closely enough at the numbers provided by CBS. I checked the page, then made sure it was linked with the correct Pitt team, then glossed over each player's class on the team and assumed that some of the transfers must be older than I had previously thought.

I was waiting for someone to question it because seeing where CBS had us ranked surprised the hell out of me and figured it be shocking to others as well. I thought I could save myself some time by not running the numbers myself. Even when considering all 16 players on the roster, I still only get 20.9 as an average age for the roster. I am not sure how they arrived at their numbers, but they obviously can't be used to make any sort of comparison anymore.

If you want to add Ellison and the 3 walk-ons to the average age, it goes to 20.56 but Ellison isn't playing this year and the walk-ons are a non-factor.

The worst part of your post is that you scolded Pitt fans for something you were wrong about ...... all is forgiven , Happy Holiday's !

If I'm Stallings, I definitely try to bring in Chambers for recruiting. He's gone if he cant make the NCAAT with this team.

So Fake News? Brilliant. It's now even seeped into Pitt basketball bashing.

For what it's worth, Pomeroy has an "experience" metric where he uses a player's class weighted for how many minutes he actually plays. While that certainly is not a perfect metric for age, it probably correlates pretty well. In that metric Pitt is currently 325 in the country (out of 351).

That is 100% correct. PSU has some talent, but with 4 losses already and a loss at home to Rider, it will be tough for them to make the NCAA tourney.
