Flo wrestling’s ranking system instead of the coaches poll where Pitt is no. 18. Flo’s poll was 1-20 and Pitt was no where to be found. Interestingly SouthDakota State was ranked 20 and Pitt just shut them out. Also SDSU’s 33 wrestler was listed as top ranked wrestler in that weight class. Phillippi won today but I’m not sure it was the kid ranked 1. As an aside,Austin DeSantis a Pa kid wrestling 33 for Iowa beat Ethan Lizak and acted like. Jerk after the win. Took a team point away from Iowa. Seems a bit high strung

Gross is ranked #1 but has a back injury that has limited him all year. Micki did not beat Gross. He beat the same guy he beat at Cliff Keen.

DeSantis is becoming a true jerk. He was always "different" and had a very bad incident at NCAA's last year (against Micic from Michigan) but he is repeatedly becoming a trouble maker after the matches have concluded. I noticed the Iowa people keep excusing it by saying it's the Iowa way as if his behavior is just aggressive wrestling. It is not my opinion and tonight it wasn't the referees opinion as it cost Iowa a team point.

No Seth Gross did not wrestle today nor has he all year. Some are saying he won't return this season. After Fix beat Suriano today he will probably be number 1 ranked when we Mickey wrestles him this weekend.
Desanto doesn't seem to embarrass easily...

I watched the Iowa match today. Desanto has autism. He is on the spectrum. Today the Minn fans were on him throughout the match yelling insults about his med condition. Also his opponent has challenged him on Twitter. Yes he reacted badly, but there were reasons today.

I watched the match. Desantis took it to Lizak pretty good. I do not know if DiSantis has autism, but what he did after the match was pretty disrespectful to Lizak. Our HS school wrestling coach always taught us that if you lost a match, you always shook your opponent's hand and tell him good match. If you won the match, you always offered your hand and told your opponent good luck next time. That is why I think wresrtlers are such a tight-kniit group, because we all know what we go through to get on the mat and participate. Just did not like what DeSantis did in that match.!

Desanto has some mental issues lol. The kid is a talented wrestler and has a chance to AA but hes completely out of his mind and regularly tries to hurt kids on the mat.

The coaching staff at Drexel was not sad to see him go despite his obvious wrestling ability.

It is a shame that he acts the way he does, though he may be autistic. Is it know he is autistic for sure?

I have never heard that he was but honestly wouldnt be surprised if he was slightly autistic or something along those lines.

Like I stated above, it seems he has absolutely no respect for his opponent. I wonder how he will react when he is on the losing end of a match.
Watched Big Ten wrestling in 60 couple nights ago with a replay of the top five or six matches from the weekend in the Big Ten. The number one match was Rutgers I wanna say 133 pounds I believe his name is Ashnault Ranked number two. He had a tough match I can’t remember the other guys name, but at the end of the match and they were going to shake hands he made the motion of pulling out six shooters like from the old west and went bang bang bang and the kid took offense and shoved him.

Watched replay of Suriano DeSantos tonight. suriano gave him the match with stalling penalties after leading most of the match. DeSantos hit a take down with seven seconds left to ice the match. Then he couldn’t help himself and starting screaming at Suriano as they were separated before they shook hands. One of the twins ran onto the Matt to get him away and get him refocused before he shook hands. He’s an interesting character. He may have autism, and I don’t profess to know what that exactly means but he was at home. No one was yelling mean things at him. I’ve watched three of his matches now and each one ended in similar fashion. He certainly spices things up. Reminds me of Thomas Gilman. Not in style but in demeanor.

Desanto is really easy to dislike. The kid behaves like a complete ass after every match. I usually root for PA kids in the NCAAs but not this time. I hope he gets pinned early.

He’s cost Iowa a team point last two matches. Doesn’t hurt when match not close but may hurt them against PSU. I’ve never seen anyone talk smack like he does in wrestling. It’s like he has No respect for anyone at all. The same ref did the last two matches for Iowa and looks to have had enough of him.

Gross is done for the year at 33. Back issue. His interview post Rutgers was good to see. It's definitely going to cost him if he can't control his emotions. I was told someone made a "fake" Lizak twitter account with a ton of derogatory stuff toward DeSanto and that set him off. Crazy stuff...Micky's win vs Dalton was no fluke, and I considered Dalton Fix the odd's on favorite to win the NCCA 33 weight, Gross gone. Mick has now established himself a a real contender. Styles and matchups are so big when you get in this elite top 5 group. On any given day, one of those guys could become a National Champ. It's all about whose healthy and peaking at the right time. On last thing, Micky style is similar to Gross and he's great at putting together a great game plan vs his opponent.

Is the interview at the end of the match on BTN?

That was a good interview. Seems to understand what he needs to do. Will be interesting to see how he fares in that regard as the year goes on. Interesting also who he gets to spar with in the room. All the old Hawkeye alums. I seem to remember some ill will between Gilman and Clark back in the day. That would have been a fun practice room to watch. Thanks for the vid.

I think Desanto is great for the sport of wrestling. It is nice to see emotions out there. It is nice to see personalities come out a little.

He also wrestles a very high intensity style of wrestling and he entertains more than most.

Iowa’s style is physical domination. Brands just attempts to carry over the Gable mentality. They try and intimidate and at times brawl. Not the greatest environment to keep his emotion intact I have no problem with it if you can back it up. Desanto appears to be a good kid who struggles with issues.

Heck of a wrestler and right in the mix for a title at 133.

DeSanto was suspended for the upcoming match against Maryland this Friday. he got another unsportsmanlike conduct in the match against Nebraska on Sunday. That’s three unsportsmanlike conduct against Desanto in the last four matches.

As I stated in a previous post, my High School Wrestling Coach taught us how to both win with respect and lose with respect for our opponent. That is why I think wrestling is such a great individual and team sport. I have watched DeSanto's matches this year. I know he may be disabled, but, his lack of respect to his opponent is glaring. That is just not the way I was taught to behave on the wrertling mat.

I remember in the late 60's and early 70's the winner would actually walk his opponent back to his bench after the match. I watched the match on tape on Flo Wrestling. He did fine in the match, nothing over the top, beat the kid up fair and square. he has trouble with the crowds and then went after the other team.

We did that too, Somerset Panther, we walked our opponent back to his bench. Our coach told us it was a sign of respect.
