Soccer got votes in Top25 poll

I am pretty sure they were ranked for a season in the early 2000s.

7/12 in the Top 17. Pitt receiving votes. Syr, BC, NC State, and VT didn't get votes.

We open up with Colgate. I figured it'd be a cupcake game but they are ranked #5. We also go to #4 Akron a few weeks later. That's one of the best atmospheres in college soccer
This years roster is minus some players I expected to contribute this season.

huh? who? Just looked at the roster and cant see figure who you are talking about. I see even Robby Dambrot got a 6th year and is eligible. He got PT at Akron so I would guess he'd start in the back

the cost to get a top 25 team, even top 10 is so minor here. soccer isn't a major college sport but it's massively significant. be known for something. SOMETHING. ugh. *steps off soapbox*

I don't remember Outcart and Coan so they must have not been that good. Ekpone and Brezniak were solid players but not huge losses. This is stuff that happens when you bring in a Top 5 class. Brezniak may have lost his starting job this year. As far as forwards go, he is clearly not as good as Kizza and Dexter but they played Dexter out wide, mostly, last year

OK. I think you spelled it wrong so I didn't recognize. He was a good GK but probably would have lost his job to the kid they brought in from NYCFC who also has played for the USA youth national teams. Vidovich is recruiting over people. He is basically Nick Saban of college soccer

Could it be because we have this big time coach? You know if Nick Saban left 'Bama and went somewhere that's not usually ranked, I'd bet that would generate a vote or two.

That and we have a good team. If this team didn't make the NCAAT this year, it would be a pretty big disappointment. Im sure anyone associated with Pitt soccer would tell you that

NCAA? They haven't made it since the 60's.
Came close a couple times in the 90's BE.

Leo Bemis founded soccer as a varsity sport at Pitt 1954.

Corrected - Changed the R to an L.

With the schedule they are playing they could easily finish under .500, and if they do they aren't making the NCAA tournament.

Right but that would still be hugely disappointing. Listening to Vidovich at that Coaches Panel thing, he was overly critical of himself and the team for not making it LAST YEAR. I was thinking like, "Dude, seriously, its ok."

More than half of our games are against teams that are ranked higher than us in the preseason poll. Of course you never know if those rankings are a fair appraisal of the teams, but to finish above .500 would mean doing something like beating some of the teams ranked ahead of us while not losing to anyone ranked below us. In other words, you have to think that the preseason poll seriously underrated us to believe that we "should" finish above .500. If the preseason poll is a reasonably accurate depiction of the team's overall strengths then Pitt needs to be no worse than about the 20th best team in the country to finish above .500.

And for the record, I'm not saying that's not possible. But what I am saying is that if Pitt is instead the 30th best team in the country and finishes a game or two below .500 and therefore misses the NCAA tournament, that given Pitt's soccer history any Pitt fan that finds that "hugely disappointing" is a moron.

I get what Vidovich is trying to do, but this is perhaps the first time in the history of Pitt sports that a Pitt team has scheduled way, way too difficult.

I didn't realize they have 2 more senior transfers. A guy from Creighton who played every second last year. I know that Creighton is a really good soccer program so this has to be a real good pick-up. They also got another Akron transfer who started more than half the games for that powerhouse program last season.

Honestly, I think this team has a chance to be really really good. But the schedule is tough as you say.

Actually he only played two games last year. He played every minute of every game the year before. So the question is did he only play two games last year after playing all the games the year before because he was hurt, or did he only play two games last year because they brought in someone at his position who was that much better than him?

Can you elaborate? I'm new to trying to follow the soccer teams, so would appreciate if you could clarify as to why they're not on the roster? Thanks and H2P!

Well this year's football schedule isn't exactly easy either. Hope both teams overachieve.

Well this year's football schedule isn't exactly easy either.

The soccer schedule has 8 games against teams in the top 25 (6 against teams in the top 11), and two more against teams between 26 and 30 in the others receiving votes category. That's 59% of the games against teams in the top 30. The football team plays 42% of their games against teams in the top 30 (3 against teams in the top 11).

The football schedule is moderately difficult. The soccer schedule is borderline insane for a team that wants to make the NCAA tournament.
