If you put 100 random shot charts, charting a seasons worth of where shots were taken from, from 100 different teams without saying who they were, every single person here could pick Pitt.

We'd be the team with 25% of our attempts being shots with guys feet on the 3 point line.

Seriously....we must be the easiest team to gameplan for in D1. We shoot mid range jumpers, and we shoot long jumpers. We don't get layups, we don't make 3's. If you are an opposing HC, just make sure Mike Young doesn't get deep post touches and force Pitt to shoot our mid range shots from a little further out. If you do that, we are in trouble.

Other teams shoot 3s and other teams make layups, we work so hard and have to make 12 passes to get a semi open jumper from the 3 pt line...standing on the line.

It's just frustrating..and we are a good offensive team. I think adding the Johnson's next season, and maybe another big will hopefully at least get us some easier shots. Combined with the horrific D..if we don't shoot out of our minds (UNC) we are in trouble.

Almost every team in Div 1 ...

.... gets offense off dribble penetration. Players drive for layups, or drive and dump for layups.

Last year we got most of our off of Lamar's (he wasn't fast, but was crafty).

We did a tremendous job getting the offense we did this year from running off screens and motion for jumpers.

Durand can dribble penetrate and that will help and I think Chris will improve in this regard as well.

Watching the Florida State game, the play by play guy made a comment I don't think I've ever heard in all my years of watching college basketball. Simply, he said:

"The mid-range jumpers are just not falling today for the Panthers." Nobody shoots enough mid-range jumpers for an announcer to even notice enough to make a comment like that.

Everybody talks about the lost art of the mid-range jumper. But everybody realizes why its gone away. Its a very low percentage shot. I'm sure I dont have to explain this but by backing up a few feet, although you'll statistically make less, the extra point you get for making 3 more than offsets the small statistical drop in taking an 18 footer instead of a 21 footer. So, nobody shoots them..........except Pitt. But in our case, that's pretty much our whole offense. Our 2 guard's range is only out to about 17 feet so he shoots exclusively mid-range jumpers. Artis, Jeter, Robinson, and even Young all shoot quite a bit of mid-range shots. We've won games when the mid-range shots have fallen but its tough to win consistently on 17 foot 2 point shots.

You're right, we don't get layups because:
- we dont have guards who can penetrate
- we dont fast break
- we dont offensive rebound for layups and tip-ins

We don't shoot 3's because:
- Our PF is our best 3 point shooter

The other thing, we cannot finish at the rim in many cases against P5 teams. Dunk the Bitch! Seems so simple. We got finish the layups we get.

Lamar had size, was a really good shooter and passed the ball really well. That tends to keep defenders off balance.

I still cringe at the flagrant foul against him his junior year against that flopper for Wichita St. He was beat solidly off the dribble and flopped. That was a game changing play.

It is frustrating how many "long 2s" we hit! Every game the announcers say that "another long 2 for Pitt", one step back and it's an extra point, I'm wondering why they are not back one step for the set up if they are going to shoot from that far away anyways?

I said that exact thing yesterday. I think Jones came off a screen and was maybe a foot in front of the line when he received the pass and took the open shot. It's almost like a receiver who runs his pattern a yard short on third down. It just doesn't make sense to me, but certainly the guys have to know that they only need to come out one more step.

Except Cam, that is. He's not allowed past the line. I had to laugh when he made that 3 at the end of the game. Thought it was a fitting way for him to finish off.
