STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS

These channels are the new network television. The old ABC, NBC, and CBS over air free stuff will be a thing of the pass in a few years.
Gotta disagree, 303. I’d agree if we were talking about streaming (e.g., Amazon Prime, Netflix), but cable seems to be on the way out.

Since this is a rematch of last year’s Cup Final, you can see an apples-to-apples comparison between ABC and TNT; ABC averaged about 1m more viewers per game more to this point than the latter.

Yep..cable is on the way out but I was talking about over the air free channels. And agree about viewership but that's today's landscape - they want to charge fee for everything. And the matchup isn't ideal being it's a rematch.

Gotcha, that makes sense and I would agree with that.

This series is so great ....... Game 4 tonight with Florida up 2 games to 1 in the series ...... tonight Florida up 3-0 after the first period, Edmonton comeback ties it 3-3 after 2 periods and Edmonton took the lead 4-3 with 6:24 to play in the 3rd period only to see Florida pull their goalie and score to tie it 4-4 with 19.5 sec left ..... going to overtime for the 3rd game out of 4 ...... tremendous series, tremendous hockey !
This is fantastic. One of the best hockey series I have seen. Reminds me of some of those Edmonton/Calgary playoffs in the 80's. Just so intense and so much action. This is where this sport is so different than soccer. You have an attack mode with these two teams rather than the old Devils sit back and wait for the other team to make a mistake.

I am afraid though Florida blew it giving up a 3 goal lead.

If you’re Florida, from a psychological perspective, how do you overcome blowing two massive leads in one Cup Final? This series should be over already if they close out Games 1 & 4. That’s why I think Edmonton has a massive edge, especially with Game 5 heading back north.

Normally I would agree with this.

However, Florida acquired Marchand for this very moment....not only a game winner last week....but to keep the overall pshyce of the Panthers where it needs to be.

I am pulling for Edmonton. I seem to align more with their diehard blue collar fans than the south florida boojie nonsense

That said, i think Florida is the better team

Cant wait for tomorrow night

One more thing about watching hockey on TV (and this came from my non sports addicted wife)

"Since its so hard to follow the puck, why not show more eye level, behind the goal views of the players rushing up the ice? The viewer may not be able to see the puck....but its impossible to miss the speed of the game".

My know nothing wife as always is smarter than me......

That's overrated, "seeing the puck". It's more of a lazy excuse for some. The only two sports where you really see the ball all or 99% of the time is basketball and soccer.

Because it's actually really hard to tell what is actually going on from eye level, behind the goal camera views. It is much easier to follow the game, especially on television, from a higher angle.

That is almost certainly not where this is going. Most likely in a few years the choices will be the old over the air channels and the streamers. That's why ESPN is starting their own, stand alone streaming service soon. And why they tried to put together a deal with Warner and Fox before that got shot down by the courts,

My problem is that since the series is on TNT, that means it's also on MAX. And I have MAX. But to watch most of the sports (the NCAA basketball tournament being a big exception) on MAX you have to pay extra. And I'm not interested in paying extra.

I am also much more interested in say......switching channels at a moment, then switching back. Streaming has yet to perfect this. It's a deal breaker to me.

Get an IPTV service. PM me if you want details.

I think the “streaming” service that comes closest to this is Apple TV. If you already have your different subscriptions synced (e.g., ESPN+, HBO Max), they give you that capability for sports if you select your favorite teams in your Apple account. You can do that for other movies/series they recommend as well, but obviously that’s not live. IMO, it’s worth checking out.

Well I already have Fubo, which is technically IPTV. However the IPTV that you are talking about, the one that allows you to stream all sorts of stuff that you aren't actually paying for, is illegal here in the US. Not that anyone ever goes after a consumer of one of those services. But there have been ways to watch pirated signals for years. I'm just not interested in doing that.

You're missing a great playoff series.

Great post… right on cue, Marchand opens up the scoring in Game 5 for Florida.

Worst part of this series is that it has caused me to actually like and respect Marchand. What a game by him last night. Both of his goals last night were impressive, but the second goal was just ridiculous.
How great were those two goals? I mean they were Lemieux like. What hands he has. He's a tremendous player and maybe one of the most underrated of this generation.

Pretty impressive speed and strength for a guy his age as well. Post game interviews make him far more likable

Wow but what a series. When Edmonton scored that second goal was there anyone who didn’t think wow Florida may blow this ?

I mean both teams are incredibly talented and are champions. Shame one has to loose but I think Florida has the edge as their depth seems better that edmontons On the broadcast they were comparing the third like to the pens BPK line

Just fantastic hockey.

Here is why I love Florida. Line after line, they just attack and win every loose puck. Every one. It is amazing.

Who ya got tonite. I like the panthers but I’d never rule out the oilers

Key will be Skinner. He’s going to have to stand on his head.

But this series has been crazy. I wouldn’t be shocked if the oilers take it and the panthers win it in 7.
I’ve been comparing this series to the 2009 Cup Final for a while now… Pens were down 3-2 that year and came back to win the series. I think McDavid drags the Oilers to a Game 7.

I hope you all are cherishing these games, because this has been an instant classic. What a great way to end the season!

If the Oilers want to win tonight, they will likely need to use their speed/quickness to negate the Florida forecheck, not take stupid retaliatory penalties, get great goaltending from Skinner, and shut down Marchand and Bennett who are killing them ...... if the Oilers pull it out tonight, I'd love to see a 5 OT Game 7, would be icing on the cake for this GREAT series !!!!!!!

I am an unabashed Panthers fan. Love the way they play, attack loose pucks, the depth and their overall skill.

Everything they do is sweet. Even the second goal, look how they just played the Oilers. They are relentless. Paul Maurice is a ****ing hockey genius and they have alot of talent without having a Gretzky, Lemieux, Sid, Ovy or McDavid.
I love how they move the puck quickly and rarely over pass.
They use their point men on offense as well as anyone in the league

And they are incredibly disciplined and conscious on defense

That’s a wrap. Panthers are just too good and deep.

Bob vs skinner was the difference today

Also this was perhaps the least competitive the Oilers have been all series. In all the other games you at least felt like they were in the game till the end. Not sure if they just were flat or the panthers had their A game.

No cup for Canada, no cup for McDavid, and Edmonton stays stuck at 5 total to remain tied with the Pens for most of any non-original 6 team.

Plus Panthers have 4 good lines. That’s what you need to win a cup
Edmonton has 4 good lines. Perhaps not as good as Florida's, but on the other hand, McDavid and Draisatl take shifts that are way too long, while FLA plays those 4 lines in short effective bursts. Even the first line isn't out there for more than a minute. Some of that reflects their faith in their depth, but some of that is also just bad coaching/team play by McD/D. Or maybe they are just selfish.

If you go back and watch these games, you can see McD/D getting gassed at the ends of their long shifts and being unable to defend.

And it showed and Florida took advantage of that and their forechecking took it to the oilers.

Panthers brought their A game for sure. But the gutless Oilers quit after the opening goal. I mean this is the Stanley Cup and you are fighting for your lives. Connor McDavid's reputation is going to take a big hit here.

As others have said it looked to me like the Panthers depth and physical play took a toll on mcdavid and draisitl

Yeah it was game 7 and you’d think they’d have had more “jump” but I think they were just physically and emotionally spent from one of the more intense series

By the way this is pretty cool
