Still love Narduzzi's defense

Yeah, they certainly need more talent in the first two levels at DL and LB if they are going to play one on one against teams like this.

Yeah the front 7 has really been exposed the past couple of weeks-and the difference has been talent. UNC and ND just physically pushed us all over the field up front.

Caprara is a tough kid but he's physically not a D1 caliber football player and has been a real liability against the run game the past couple of weeks. Honestly Jordan Whitehead is our best run stopper, which is not what you want to see.

NC and ND both use a spread, then run w power.

This pulls the dbs out, and they pop the rb through the line.

Has been painful to watch.

Also, they had two nd fumbles they just could not get to go their way to recover, as w both onsides kicks.

I still like the scheme, too. Just need serious upgrades at lb especially.

RECRUIT RECRUIT RECRUIT!!!!!
You gotta win games like this if you want to recruit the talent needed to compete.

We have heard we just need to recruit more talent the last 35 years.

Something tells me we are going to hear the exact same thing 3 years from now.

Well... I know you guys are kinda right, you need to win games like this to recruit. But... come on... you see all the talent and NFL greats on the sideline (as well as all the greats not there) and you know Pitt can get you to that next level. Also, you have to have to know this is the coaches first year. But you see some real strong points that when the talent comes, we will be awesome.

We must have had 5 or 6 sacks today (depending on if they count a few as QB runs or not). Not bad against that star studded line and us having little star DL.

I liked the scheme, we just got burnt a few times

Whitehead and price seemed to be the only guys making plays in defense. Price had a HUGE game!

Blair looked awful, and the LBs outside of Grigsby made no plays either

Yep, IMO that is our biggest problem. Everyone talks about how great Whitehead has been with all the tackles. Yes he has been great, not taking that away from him. But that is the biggest red flag on earth when your safety is getting so many tackles.

Yes.
What else can we judge recruiting on so far?

Not exactly a stacked class and we have lost plenty of recruiting battles.
No, the way to judge recruiting is when it is over in February and then by not reading anything you post? LOL! Posters only need reca SoufOaklin4Life dumb post of past, present, and future.....Let see???

"Pederson is a great Athletic Director and did great at Nebraska and Pitt?....Pitt does not need a Special Teams Coach?.....Pitt Fans are the reason Pitt loses?...and latest lie by you was that Barnes created a Pitt Fan Committee was just like what has been done under Pederson until when Barnes said it came from the way he did old job and was not being done at Pitt?????"....then you just slink away as usual looking more stupid! Still, showing no guts to admit how wrong you have been on Pitt Sports!

You have the comments of a myopic monk and judgment is worse as your usual malaise postings that can't see anything positive on Pitt?

Whitehead looked very good indeed. Thought Price was a beast today... But yeah, lots of players who once looked promising have lately been looking ordinary. I was expecting more from Jarrett and Render. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but ever since that game Grigsby hurt his neck, he seems much less aggressive and less of the game changer type I honestly thought he was going to be this season. The season is not over, but we will surely need more out of these guys if we are going to have any chance to get to 9 wins this season.

I agree with many of your specific points and enjoy reading them. I too, feel and predicted early in the season every game would be a Toss-Up-Win, Toss-Up, or Toss-Up-Loss except ND, I thought it was going to be Loss no matter what.

However, I see the same mistakes Pitt was able to overcome in the early 6-1 runs as just a tad off by a second or missed fumble recovery or dropped pass or interception, or missed sack, just enough to lose Iowa, UNC and ND plus all the mistakes you point out!

Yet, I still see these Coaches & Players as a Team learning from their mistake when they lose but I see them improving too?

I now think it is possible Pitt can win against Duke, ULKou, and Miami that are all still Toss-Ups! But now I go watching Pitt games knowing they will play all game long. This going to surprise Duke Players in my opinion. ULou will be a tad tougher now that Petrino has played and coached them 9 games, but Pitt can beat them. Miami will not be easy but also not as tough as expected in the Preseason?

I was worried after the UNC Game that Pitt players may have some mental letdowns and as your post points out that has happen, but I am still seeing Pitt players missing just Great Plays by a second or a drop or not recovering a fumble by a bad bounce????

But that is progress even in losses as far as I am concern and why I am more confident, the Coaches, Players and are learning better every game even in these latest losses! I did not feel that way until I saw today's game.

They can go 9-3 and possible 10-3, and of course 8-4 or 9-4, but I really think they won't go 6-6, 6-7, 7-5, or 7-6, anymore!

We shall see?

The entire defense has been exposed the last couple of weeks . To single out Caprara is just , well stupid . He's in the top 5 on defense and yeah while Physically over matched has been certainly not a liability . That I assure you .

I played the same position he does in college and pay some attention to the LBs when I watch a game.. Caprara is struggling the past couple of weeks. He's easy to block. The D line has had a lot to do with the poor LB okay for sure, but when I watch #30 specifically I see a guy who's in over his head out there. He's small and slow, and if you're gonna be small and slow, you'd better make up for it with your brains and instincts. For a supposedly smart player he sure gets caught in the wrong gaps a lot. And when that happens to Caprara or Galambos, we're seeing those 8 yard runs right up the gut. there have been a bunch of those the last two weeks.

Need more talent, but that will come

I like Narduzzi but it was pretty obvious Brian Kelley knew his defensive philosophy and how to make him pay. Sometimes you have to temper your "philosophy" until you have the athletes that can run it.
