Still no love for Pitt

I'm watching three games tonight, and I've seen no highlights or heard any mention of Pitt's total beat down of Va Tech or the fact that Pitt is one game away from clinching the division. All anyone will say is "the Coastal is a mess." I've heard that phrase several times now.

Its a mess in their minds because neither of their usual favorites, Va Tech and Miami, is having a good year, and the team they picked to finish fifth is now clearly taken over the division. They can't say anything as simple as "Pitt has really come on over the last five games." Nothing.

Herbstreit mentioned Pitt's impressive win over VT today... late in the 1st quarter of the Clemson-BC game.

Ok, I missed that. Good for him. Of course, Herby is the guy who said earlier this year that Nebraska (I think it was them) had fallen as a program as far as Pitt.

Yes, but most of the talk on Dec 1 will be how badly Pitt will get destroyed by Clemson. Not that they'll necessarily be wrong.

He’s wrong about that as well, Nebraska playing as well right now as almost everyone in the BIG not named Ohio St or Michigan. They are going to crush MSU next week.

Nebraska crush MSU? I doubt it. Their close OSU loss is misleading. They have 3 wins all year, one of those being over Bethune-Cookman, and none of them against a team with a winning record. Their defense is not very good. I doubt they beat MSU, but if they do, and crush them in the process, I will be back to salute your wisdom.

They are peaking, while MSU put everything they had on the line against OSU today. The MSU offense is eerily similar to Mississippi State’s and that’s not a good thing. Nebraska is just hitting their stride and playing with enthusiasm while MSU will be just playing out the season.

I will be surprised if Nebraska isn’t the favorite in the game, either way I will be betting them big.

If you're betting, I hope you're right. MSU can still go to a very nice bowl if they win out. After Nebraska they have Rutgers. I say MSU wins by 14 or more. Since I don't bet, I hope you are wiser than I.

Dont lose to UNC...pretty simple

That’s about what I expected, but what I thought was funny was that during the halftime of the Pitt/VT game, they showed zero Pitt highlights. Just other games from around the country.

People need to think for themselves. Not be led by the nose by what some pundits - many of whom have likely seen very little of Pitt over the past month or so - choose to spew.

What did YOU think of how Pitt played today? Because that's all that really matters.

No, it wont.

The talk all week will be.....Pitt with a history of knocking off #2 ranked teams, can they do it again?

The ACC champ game will follow this story line all week, with much talk about our freight train running game.

Houston Nutt mentioned PITT and how good the team is playing now.
How sure hope that he spoke about how "well" the team is playing, and not how "good" the team is playing. I'd rather not have them speak about Pitt at all if they are going to speak about Pitt like that.

As I think about this more, maybe you are new, but based on history, you do NOT want people talking up Pitt. I think that happened to generate some hype around Pitt PSU this year, and what an nationally televised ass whooping that was...which is the typical result when Pitt gets accolades in the national media.

MSU is hot garbage. They have no offense. The only legit top 10 team is Michigan. Osu is going to get exposed against them

how much time do you think a 6-4 team deserves? btw, pitt got a couple good shout outs during the cfp ranking show the other night...It is a mess in their minds because a 4 or 5 loss team will win it..

I still don't know what to make of the Michigan-OSU game. It's at OSU, Michigan is playing better right now, but do the Wolves have the firepower to win in the Shoe? I sure hope so.

Yes, glad to hear from others who did hear folks mentioning Pitt's recent success. But in terms of the division race, I think if you had four teams at the top at 4-3, you might call that a mess. But what's happened in the last three weeks, is that Pitt has clearly separated itself from the other teams in the division and now has a near 90% chance of winning it, so instead of NOW saying the division is a mess, they should be saying that the Coastal has sorted itself out, with Pitt on its way to the championship game.

It is "a mess" because we lost 3 OOC games. If we were 8-2 the discussion would be completely different.

You may have seen last night ( while watching USC Cal), crawler came along and said only a 9% chance the current 4 get to the CFP.

And to be honest, whoever from the coastal goes against them, the expectation would be that they'll get owned by Clemson, and probably fair to expect it. Even if we had beaten UNC and all else the same AND even if we win the final two, we'd still be seen that way too, because we had so many "big" losses. "They played 3 respected teams and got blown out by two and struggled offensively in the other." That would be the narrative.

We were talking about the Pitt Wake line leaving the game. I think it will open around Pitt -3.5? Think I’m close?

Pretty much the other 3 conferences that have divisions in the p5 have one side that is a "mess" except the sec.

I think the OP is being a little sensitive. We got the same coverage as the northwestern vs Iowa game. They got like 50 games to highlight in an hour and will four on the cfp contenders more.

Better to be talked about being distroyed and just talked about than not. At least we would be more relevant. Of course this is a positive spin and our board hates that.
