Trump inherited a strong economy and strong stock market and now he’s trashing it. Inflation was still high from the effects of Covid, but was coming down.

This is correct. These are the steps in the conversion to a true oligarchy or as Chris Hedges calls it, "warlord capitalism". I've also heard it called corporatism.
The plan is to tank the economy through tariffs and mass unemployment. Interest rates drop, stocks become much cheaper. The oligarchs buy low and become richer. They gain even more power and influence.
Remember Elon Musk's own words before the election:
"Most importantly, we have to reduce spending to live within our means. That does really involve temporary hardship but it will ensure long term prosperity."
Now, clearly those "temporary hardships" will be felt on Main St and not by the oligarchs.

But Carter's economy wasn't nearly as strong as Biden's. Trump is a Russian asset who is owned by Putin. This is the eroding of the United States by way of internal decay.
It's all going to plan. To be fair, a recession was probably going to be unavoidable after the out-of-control stock market over the last 10 years. I think the thought was Trump's economic policies would stunt a recession and make it manageable. But we are probably heading towards Great Recession 2009 territory. And Republicans always do this:
