Because we live in what has become a false outrage society.
People are always looking for reasons to complain or feel slighted so they find them in things like the length of time it takes Aretha Franklin to sing the national anthem.
Also, it's pretty evenly divided on both sides of the political fence. Basically, people are idiots regardless of their political preferences and proclivities.

An anthem played before a game is meant as a unity moment, prior to two teams going after each other. Since so many people seem to managed to get ticked by any slight deviation from how they think the thing should be done, maybe we should just quit playing it. Or just tell the complainers to STFU.
Misleading clickbait topic headline. It's not so much people complaining about it, it's people making jokes about it. She nearly doubled the old record of 152 seconds. The people with the false outrage are people like you who take a self-righteousness stance on a non-issue in order to lump a bunch of people together into a category then insult them to feel a sense of superiority. "Other people are part of a false outrage society, but I'll show my superiority over them by getting outraged at false outrage society."
There is absolutely nothing wrong with pointing out something that is absurd or conspicuous. If Sam Bradford came out and doubled the passing record in the game, people would have pointed that out on social media as well.
I remember the good old days when people got outraged at things that mattered, like interracial relationships or women working.

The NFL is discussing going back to pre 2009 when the anthem was played before the players took the field.
That's how big of a problem the fake narrative protesters have caused the NFL.
And virtually none of these players do anything with their own money or their own time to make people aware of their concerns which are not fact based.

I can't believe the fuss always being made about the National Anthem. This one was too long. this one was hurried thru. Some guy took a knee during this one etc etc.I didn't see it but the National Anthem has become all about the particular performer that day. They turn one syllable words into 3 syllable words, drag out notes for 15 and 20 seconds.
What we need to do is put on an old 45 record with the national anthem on it, play it, then kick the ball or throw the first pitch.It would be much more respectful of the song itself.

I'm not sure where the number for that "record" comes from, but BE Taylor still hasn't finished singing the national anthem from game one of the 1991 Stanley Cup Finals yet.

If you don't think people are protesting watching the NFL because overpaid divas are disrespecting the flag, then you're not paying attention. Just google it and do the homework for yourself.
I'm not the biggest Tomlin fan, but i'm all for him telling his players that if they kneel or protest, that they won't play.

4 minutes to sing a 2 minute song is ridiculous. This is a triumphant war song set to a freaking drinking song melody for crying out loud. It is not a ballad. Anyone who interprets it as a 2 plus minute lament is ruining the song. It is a snappy joyful composition - not a drawn out apology.
2 minutes? Heck, we used to time the Pitt band's version at basketball games when they played it about ten minutes before tip so the pregame clock was still counting down and they used to play it in about 55 seconds.
The complete national anthem has four stanzas so technically it should be played four times
Imagine the fan reaction after the third stanza is over and the band/singer starts to crank it up for the fourth verse!
Get rid of the damn celebrities and let the crowd sing it. First time I've ever muted someone singing the National Anthem.
