Temple hiring manny diaz

Really good hire for temple and good news for pitt as I think Diaz is a really good dc

Great hire for temple on the surface. As with all hire it’s a bit of a crap shoot.

Much better hire than Georgia Tech IMO

If he's taking all the Miami defensive recruits with him to Temple its good news for Pitt. Otherwise I think I could coordinate a defensive scheme at Miami against Watson and our current Pitt offense and be successful.

Yeah, I think Temple did better than GT here. Diaz doesn't have the two years of HC experience but I do think he has higher upside. Maybe he'll be attractive to Miami if there are a few more years of mediocrity with Richt.

Especially if, in the effort to change the Georgia Tech offense, Collins brings his Temple OC Patenaude with him. Nard and Bates will be licking their chops at the prospect of matching "wits" with that guy.

Temple is doing things right.
They seem to have a plan and a process for improvement.
This is a big step forward for the program since it opens up new recruiting areas with Diaz's FL connection.
A key question will be answered down road is he HC material?

Worried about hiring a good coach, cause you're scared he'll leave for a higher level school.....that's a silly point of view and I hated it when Pitt folks used the same argument when we were going through coaching carousel....just hire the best coach and let everything else play out

I agree. I made the point on the Temple board that the present situation is much more desirable than the all-too recent memory of wallowing in the ineptitude of the likes of Ron Dickerson and Bobby Wallace that previous administrations were reluctant to pull the plug on. That nearly proved fatal to the program.

Really. When there were frequent scares of Dixon leaving, it was because of a great thing: That our basketball program was riding high.

Conversely we probably could have kept Stallings to the day he died and never, ever, had to worry that someday was going to hire him away. And it's because he absolutely sucked.

Pretty good comeback for a wunderkind D coach who got canned at Texas.

Worked his way back to The U and now a HC at Temple....not a bad job to be in for the 2 previous HCes.
Heard him interviewed this morning; Temple is something like 73-53 since 2009.

They have a better record and fewer coaches than Pitt in that time frame ........

Let that sink in....
Thanks Parachute Petey.

But we have the Ivy League reputation.

(Handed a memo)

Oh...no. No, we don't.
