TCU, SMU, UT, A&M, UH, UTEP, Rice all major programs in the state of Texas effected by Governor Abbott's upping threat level in state, closing all bars, mandating no outdoor gatherings of more than 100 people unless approved by local officials, no ICU beds in Houston... college football kickoff about nine weeks away...let's pray this virus abates so we can have some type of season.

Florida just closed bars again. Hospitals getting full.

Do brain dead morons such as yourself not realize that “mah freedom to protest irresponsibility” has a ton to do with the rise in cases? Stay north, we don’t want you morons down here.
Data pretty conclusively shows there was no increase or cluster from protests -
And it’s for a pretty basic reason
Protestors wore masks at least 90-95% of the time .
I can tell you from first hand experience in east liberty

I must have hit a sore spot, but it's true. The "it's mah freedum" morons are leading the way in showing their stupidity and increasing the stress in hospitals and medical workers. Congrats.

You have the right to protest anything in America and It will end this way...........................!
write in your response.

Nurses are being told not to ask patients if they were protesters.

Souf - you have no idea if 90-95% of ALL protestors here wore masks. Great that you had a snapshot of some time in East Liberty, but c'mon you weren't in front of the PPG Paints Arena or Market Square or anywhere else.

I spoke with a friend in Houston and he said that the local hospitals are saying they have plenty of beds but they have seen an increase. His son was diagnosed with a mild dose and is on his way to recovery but a friend of his has failed multiple covid tests and he is quarantined for six months.

Memorial Hermann and their network of private hospitals are largely fine. The public hospitals in the Medical Center are not.

Months!? Or, weeks?

Do you genuinely believe this? It would obviously be crazy to say that all of the current spike can be directly attributed to protests/riots, but are we really contending that none of it can be a result of those activities? If people can gather in the 10s of thousands throughout the country and see no increase in cases as a result, then I have to conclude that wearing a mask is damn near 100% effective against spread of the virus. Based on your first hand experience, which types of masks were most commonly being worn? I've been wearing surgical type masks since the beginning. I've questioned how effective some of these homemade masks can be, but I'm now feeling much more confident.

I'm slightly confused though. While I don't have first hand experience like you, I can pull up any random pictures from the protests (in different cities) and point out random people either not wearing masks or not wearing them correctly.

Again, if wearing masks is this effective, there needs to be immediate action taken to implement a mandatory, enforceable rule that states no one is allowed to leave their home unless they are wearing a face covering. Based on the data you're referring to, I think it's reasonable to expect that every college stadium will be packed to the gills this fall as long as mask wearing is enforced at the gates.

I went to two events
Masks were worn by no less than 90% and I’m being conservative . It was rare to see anyone not masked .
We drove by the bakery square sit in and same story

it’s been two weeks
There aren’t clusters from protests

the escalation is associated with open and unmasked regions
This isn’t debatable

Houston sent out an Amber Alert style push notification to residents tonight urging them to stay home. My wife has some old med school friends who still live there.

For reference, Houston’s Medical Center is the largest in the country.

some people have sense and some dont soo the CDC has to tell everyone to wear em......
The only thing that will save this world is Anold schwarzenegger when he comes back as a robot.

The masks are good at slowing spread from you to others, regardless of person. They won’t protect you as an individual from an unmasked person.

Nobody would care if it was a situation where masks just protected you, people care because masks protect everybody else.

The year was 1918....

World War I was in full force….
Number of Deaths: 20 Million

Then the Spanish Flu….
Confirmed cases: 500 Million
Number of deaths: 50 Million

We can get through this…. Keep positive... Don't panic or go overboard... Be brave... Many have come before us with a lot more obstacles and prevailed. We can't hide under our beds....We have to get out there and live, but be cautious!

Yeah
But the incubation period is 5-12 days -
So clusters would have bubbled up by now

My suspicion is there’s a lag between when people start feeling sick and when they actually go to the hospital.

That’s not confirmed by much data beyond Memorial Day numbers in Texas but my wife has worked in a county hospital long enough to know the general attitude of what it takes for people to come in.

So my nephew is an African American Pittsburgh cop who walked the front lines 12 hours on/off for over a week and was spit on so many times he lost count. But by your account how could they with having masks on? See how that works? It's all in the eye of the beholder.

But taking your observation as fact there will never be a cluster as long as everyone wears masks. That's actually good to know.

Thats sucks , I remember one time in the 9th grade my buddy spit on me too.

Ugh take this garbage to the locker room. It’s been rehashed so many freaking times.

That’s vile and anyone who did that should be eating soft foods for the rest of their pathetic lives.

But a mask can be lifted to spit. See how that works?

It probably remains to be seen how much of this is due to the protests. But locally so far the increase has been attributed to bars/restaurants and travel.

I mean, not wearing masks led to a 2nd spike. It’s why Texas is finally allowing them to be mandated.

You have nothing to lose, really. Unless you’re also unworried about the economy, in which case I really don’t know what to say. Go libertarianism I suppose (and respect). It’s better than cutting off your nose to spite your face in the name of partisanship.

Except those areas aren’t having escalations

because they have the sense to wear a masks
Unlike certain other liberate protestors

They had RIOTS in those areas too.

Science deniers are on BOTH sides of the aisle! Crowds cause spikes!
really pisses me off that people who shout science all of a sudden go stupid when it doesn't fit their agenda!
