Choked his wife. With the time of night and knowing Beard, was probably 12 deep. Bad situation.
Michael HaywoodWhen’s the last time a coach for a high profile team who’s super highly ranked got in trouble like this? Mark Few got a DUI during the season, but that’s obviously a different situation.
I mean- Mike Haywood is the first thing that comes to mind here, right? When’s the last time a coach for a high profile team who’s super highly ranked got in trouble like this? Mark Few got a DUI during the season, but that’s obviously a different situation.
Nah. I think people sometimes forget that while super high profile and talented in maybe elite ways, they’re still human beings prone to the same things as anyone else. These incidents get all the attention and we then think how could they be that stupid as to blow it.Man, are these athletes and coaches just wired wrong in their brains? Very disturbing and unfortunate. Something is terribly wrong with these people. And Beard is just plain stupid.
Now we'll have those who defend him and say nothing can be proven, or wait until we hear the whole story, or the charges will be reduced or dropped. There are no excuses whatsoever for this. One thing we can say about Capel...he'd never do this type of thing to anyone. He is a decent, caring person.
And Pitt wasn’t #2 in the country. But that was way before the season
Funnily enough, their highly rated freshmen who hasn’t missed a game got arrested for similar charges as Dior in the summerDior to Texas
strangulation?Funnily enough, their highly rated freshmen who hasn’t missed a game got arrested for similar charges as Dior in the summer
I linked the article after the original post. Violence against a female, not sure exactly where the charges landed. But not even a game???strangulation?
Texas is serious about athletics and Pitt isn't I guess.I linked the article after the original post. Violence against a female, not sure exactly where the charges landed. But not even a game???

I forgot, this is his fiancé not wife. He also has 3 daughters.Beard has a history with alcohol so, when I saw the time that this occurred, that’s where my mind unfortunately went.
He’ll be suspended pending investigation and my guess is, unless new details emerge to clear him, that Texas severs ties in the offseason
No. Clemson or Pitt. But clemson first choice will be Richie rileyIs Ryan Odom qualified for the Texas job? I hope the answer is no.
But that mental illness (or a drunken rampage) has nothing to do with him being a coach. And I never used the word mistake by the way. Your original post asks if it’s athletes and coaches brains. Coaches, athletes, actors, musicians, whoever are all human beings prone to the same things. They get placed on a pedestal by some which leads to more shock because of “who they are”. This stuff goes in all day every day in every level of society.Sorry, but I was never prone to strangling anyone and I'm very human. I make mistakes, too. This wasn't a mistake that Beard did. This was a complete meltdown and insanity. Of course there are others out there assaulting people the same way, and they are also insane. No excuse. Beard has a serious mental deficiency and sickness.

Unfortunately not unique to coaches or athletes.Man, are these athletes and coaches just wired wrong in their brains? Very disturbing and unfortunate. Something is terribly wrong with these people. And Beard is just plain stupid.

I've gotten black out drunk more times than I know. Ill never understand the violent drunk. I just was always happy having a good time. Annoying, yes but angry or violent, never.
Automatic firing. Go to jail. Worthless piece of crap!!! Speaking from a person who had that same exact father type.
Get him away from women and children.Yes, he should be in jail right now and staying there for a long time. Qualifying, it would be a jail for the mentally ill because he is that.
1 in 3 Texans will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. ...I love these sweeping generalizations (such as what constitutes domestic violence in this context) that are in no way based on actual fact....
Our justice system is based on the notion of "innocent until proven guilty." Saying that is not to defend him, it is to reiterate reality. Just as it is with every other person who is arrested.Man, are these athletes and coaches just wired wrong in their brains? Very disturbing and unfortunate. So does their HFC have a similar history.Beard has a history with alcohol so, when I saw the time that this occurred, that’s where my mind unfortunately went.

Why do you think it’s a fallacy ?1 in 3 Texans will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. ...I love these sweeping generalizations (such as what constitutes domestic violence in this context) that are in no way based on actual fact....
Reminds me of the 1 in 5 women will be victims of sexual assault or in college fallacy..
I didn't say anything about him coaching - that is up to his employers. You also said, without any evidence, that he is mentally ill and should be in jail. His mental state, if it is in question, is determined by a process, not by people who claim that he is mentally ill.So you're saying let him out of jail so he can coach because he's innocent until proven guilty? You're probably also in the camp of saying if he is proven guilty, which has a very high probability, he should be out on the streets and allowed to coach as well while he files his appeals, which he will.
Of course, he won't be able to travel to away games and he'll have to wear an ankle bracelet at all times. But who knows. With the way we baby these jocks, he'd get "special" treatment.

Are you implying that the Texas Department of Public Safety doesn't know what they're talking about?1 in 3 Texans will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. ...I love these sweeping generalizations (such as what constitutes domestic violence in this context) that are in no way based on actual fact....
