Texas drives down the field to potentially score the game tying TD. They get a PI call in the end zone. First and goal at the 2. Pass play...another PI. First and goal at the one yard line. Texas goes shotgun on first and goal from the 1. Handoff....stuffed. Second down on the 1....wide pitch loses 6. Pass play...strip sack for a TD.

Why in the name of god line up in shot gun on first and one? Get over center and run the QB sneak. If you get a half yard run it again. If you get stuffed run it again on 3rd. Heck run it again on 4th. You've got to be able to sneak at least once for a yard. The wide pitch that lost 6 made no sense. OSU is coming downhill the whole time. Play calling disaster. Another coach overthinking the situation.

Some of this play calling on the goal line drives me nuts. Snap it back 6 yards then hand off 5 yards deep and run right up the gut where a dozen players are. Then run a pitchout 7 yards deep against a good quick defense. Texas deserved that loss just on that stupidity.

Yep. Same as Pitt vs Toledo. 1st and Goal from the 2. Run the ball 4 times and if you dont get it, so be it. At least OSU has an NFL D line. Toledo blew and we ran right through them and yet resorted to trickery and then a FG

The pitch wide has to be one of the dumbest play calls ever. Theyd have been better to use a power formation and run PA if they wanted to get tricky.

But there is no need for ticks in that situation. It’s not like Texas OL is garbage. Run power formation under center and hand the ball off or sneak it four times.

These coaches out smart themselves way too often. It’s almost like they’re more intent on showing how tricky or smart they are than winning. For the life of me I don’t know why more teams don’t use the eagles appear approach in short yardage situations

That’s pretty much how I felt, Texas deserved the loss after that stupidity.

I was going to say the same thing. Has anybody ever stopped that? It's like a cheat code that teams choose to ignore.
The Eagles put out the blueprint for short-yardage situation and it's like no one else tries to copy it.

Lining up in the shotgun as often as teams do from inside the 5 is ridiculous. That 2nd down play was as bad as it gets. Ohio State's defense was all over it.

it’s mind boggling that few if any other teams havnt copied the eagles shirt yardage play. It would appear to be a no brainer unless your OL is pathetic

I don't even think the offensive line needs to be that good to execute this play. Watching games every week, it doesn't even look like other teams practice it.

And in a copy cat league even nfl teams have not done it. I mean you put two TEs behind the qb or even some OL and pile drive the qb across. I guess it’s too simple and doesn’t allow the coaches to show how smart they are
