Right now in Pomeroy, the ACC teams break down into a number of categories:
  1. The big three: #3 UVA, #5 Duke, #6 UNC
  2. The next two: #14 Louisville, #15 Miami
  3. Probable NCAA Tourney teams: #25 ND, #28 Cuse, #30 PITT, #40 FSU
  4. Bubble teams: #51 Clemson, #54 NCS
  5. Also rans: #77 Wake, #85 GT
  6. Bad teams: #146 VT, #151: BC
How they do this... based on how easily or not easily they are beating cupcakes... is difficult to imagine but it seems to be pretty accurate.

Of course these rankings change based on how teams do so for us to rise... ya gotta beat some higher ranked teams and not lose to lower ranked ones.

Kent State, is at #127 and that is not a 'bad' team but something less than an also ran.

Purdue, is at #7. Duquense is at #113 and Davidson is at #60 (whoa... the Nitters are at #187... now that is getting REALLY BAD).

The game against Purdue will be the real test for us. As much as the Gonzaga game which ultimately... never happened.

Hmmmm... Pomeroy currently has Detriot at 177 and Cornell at 298. So, the question is, are they really that bad or are we really that good? In any case Kent State is ranked much higher than these two.

Wake Forest looks pretty good so far for being a #77.

They beat Indiana (#27 in Pomeroy) and UCLA (#53) on a neutral court but lost to Richmond (#63) at home and Vandy (#11) blew them out by 22 on a neutral court.

It all adds up to #77. A lot better than last year so far for Wake (they finished #124 last year in Pomeroy).

Yeah, last year we finished #78. Probably dropped precipitously after that last 5 game end of year losing streak.

Wake Forest could at least maybe make the NIT this year...

Miami lost to a cupcake. Pitt is destroying cupcakes. If that's the logic then I guess Pitt should be up there with Louisville. This is totally inaccurate until we hit conference play.

You guys make me laugh. The "analysis" in this thread is so far off. Don't quit your day jobs.

These rankings have nearly nothing to do with how any team is beating cupcakes. The current ratings are almost entirely based on pre-season projections for each team, which diminish with every passing day.

Miami started at 21, and rose to 17
Wake Forest actually started at 59 and has dropped to 75
Notre Dame started at 16 and dropped to 28

Pitt started at 31 and is now 32, so basically exactly as projected.

FWIW, Louisville has played basically nobody, but has risen more than any other ACC team, from 25 to 11. Playing at MSU this week will probably bring them back down to earth.

In Sagarin Pitt started at #50 and slipped to #55 or #56 before moving up to and hovering iaround the #29-#33 since about the Detroit game. Still plenty of pre-season starting point guessed bias in the system. Things will be clearer by January 1st.

I was completely joking other than the fact that these rankings are absolutely pointless this early on.
