48-14 and sherrill leaving were for all intensive purposes right in the same time frame. So I say the combination of the loss in the game and the loss of sherrill was what did Pitt in.

Funny I was just thinking... if pitt beats psu in '81 and wins the national championship, that's 2 in 6 years. You almost wonder what road pitt goes down after that if they win that championship in '81.
