Well, you don't sell it like that. I've heard a former coach explain how he made this pitch, and you have to keep the conversation about money. 18 year olds like it when you talk money.
But a stronger sales pitch on money would be to explain how getting 25 carries a game for 3 years, being the ACC player of the year, leaving early for the draft...gets that money in your pocket quicker. Kids want instant gratification...not a long-term business plan on how football can be a 10 year annuity for them.
RB is the easiest position in college to get on the field early at. Why knowingly wait to play unless you go to a program where you are competing for something bigger like a NC....PSU isn't. If it's only about money, I think 90%+ of kids would gravitate to where they have the best chance to get paid early. If they are looking for a more robust experience and a big time college football atmosphere, that's a different story. Then we're in trouble.
