Merry Christmas all!!
I hope to see many of you on the way down to Annapolis. I will be easy to spot in my truck with the 3x5 PITT Script flag waving from the bed of my truck. The 28th can't get here soon enough....H2P!!

So the word on the street is that after the bowl games Pitt is going to announce Jim Bollman (MSU Co-Offensive Coordinator - Tight Ends) as the new PITT Offensive Coordinator; or was that Dave Warner MSU running backs coach. Now the name has slipped my mind.

What percentage of this "rumor" is true? Any thoughts??? Very curious....

Don't know the guys, but the Bollman has a really nice resume. OC at OSU for a decade. Coached at Youngstown State along with a few years in the NFL. Seems a little older than what some of the staff currently is so I don't know how his recruiting chops are, but I would like someone that has OC experience, but also can recruit like hell.

Warner seems to have more experience at lower level schools, but is younger and has been with MSU longer.

Other than that, I don't know a thing about either guy.

bollman does have some age to him. but ratking not entirely true what you say. the defensive assistants do have youth but not so on offense, peterson, powell, sherman and salem all been around a good while.

If true not surprised. I thought that when Hill committed and said so here.

We need a QB coach and neither of those guys coach QB so I dont think they will be the guys, even though they are both pretty good.

you say word on the street........which street?

A large group of engineers that I work with (...in the Power Generation market) hear things that seem to be very reliable from a very high level of alumni. I just heard this "rumor" Friday at work. I don't intend to get anyone spun-up with rumor mill crap, but this one just seem to make sense. The street would be Old William Penn in Murrysville (LOL). Maybe this post was just posted because I'm so happy our program is making a positive progression. Maybe I'm just expecting more good news following the 2 o'clock verbals.....that's all.

I hope it is Jim Bollman because I have a good story about the guy.

It was over the holidays and I was staying at the Windham in Tampa's Channelside area. That hotel happened to be the Ohio State team hotel for their bowl game versus South Carolina - don't remember the year.

Anyway, I'm headed down the elevator on my way out minding my own business and a group of men get on the elevator including, as it turns out, Jim Bollman.

Well, after a few seconds the elevator gets stuck and we are all just kind of staring at each other. Without missing a beat, Bollman just starts chatting me up. He asked if I was Ohio State fan and I told him no, my team is Pitt and I was just in town on business.

Then spent the rest of the time telling me stories about Pitt football and he relayed a few recruiting stories about Pitt and some of our former coaches and players.

I have no idea how long we were on the elevator – probably five minutes or so - but I can see why he would be considered an excellent recruiter. He was a very engaging guy.

cabe, i don't disagree with what your saying but what names fit the bill for what type of offense narduzzi wants to run(older school big 10 offense)?

We need a QB coach and neither of those guys coach QB so I dont think they will be the guys, even though they are both pretty good.

thanks for the reply.

Hill is coming to Pitt as a DB so I don't understand this MSU OC theory relating to why we landed him.

I think it's more about the recruitment at MSU and relationships that were formed regardless what position he will be playing here. Having said that, it's obviously just speculation, but putting together the pieces of the puzzle of why the late flip (besides the fact that he prefers Pitt and Narduzzi), poaching one of their coaches makes sense. That's all.

Can't see Bollman unless Duzz plans to fire someone to bring in a QB coach?

Dave Warner I could see. He has qb coaching experience.

things did not go well for urban this year. to many cooks in the kitchen when it came to their offense.

if urban decides to reel things in a bit, maybe beck ends up our oc.

Yeah I see now he's been a QB coach in the past so, maybe. Dan Enos seems like a long shot. Not sure who else would be a fit.

OK, so what were the recruiting stories? Don't leave us hanging LOL.

All you need to know is that MSU offense has been outstanding for the past several years and it's exactly what Narduzzi wants to run here-that's what Chaney based his scheme on. So it makes a ton of sense to try to get one of those guys. That said, I could also see us grabbing Brad Salem from MSU. A lot of people seem to think he's ready to make the leap from QB coach to OC. I've said all along that my gut feeling is our next OC either comes from MSU or from our existing staff. MAU seems more likely since I'm not sure we have anyone on the staff qualified to mentor the QBs. Ether way I think it's already been a done deal for a while as there has been no internet scuttlebutt whatsoever about interviews, candidates, a search, interest etc etc.

Warner is the play caller for MSU and the more highly regarded of the two versus Bollman. Either would be a good get for us, agree that Warner makes more sense as he is a high level QB coach as well.

Warner is a QB guy. He was MSU's QB coach for 6 years, and played QB for Syracuse.

With this information I have to change my earlier guess from Bollman to Warner. With all the hush hush it seems to be a done deal and an inside job (what amounts to the old MSU staff agreeing to settle it all after the bowl games.)
Time will tell.

Pitt in general is VERY good at sealing up any scuttlebutt FWIW.

Agree and he makes something along the lines of 380k. While that is pricey but fortunately no longer a problem.

He's now the highest paid on their staff since Duzz left.

I don't think it will be Warner.
I don't think Dantonio will let Warner go either. Bollman or Brad Salem I'd guess. Salem has done a great job with the QBs there, Conner Cook went from lightly recruited 3 star to the likely top QB in the NFL draft. Whoever it is, we can be sure Dooz isn't poaching from MSU--it would have to be with Dantonio's blessing.

Of course, there's always the possibility that the new OC will be from somewhere off everyone's radar. I still believe whoever it is, it's been a done deal for a while. The timing of the announcement probably has to do with bowl game prep etc. For that reason, I doubt we are promoting from within. If that were the case, there would be no reason to lay in the weeds on announcing.

But Pitt can only control it's own end--not the other end. These rumors tend to get out from some source, usually from someone close to the program that is losing the coach.

the risk with Salem, no real OC experience. Back to PC when he hired House, no DC experience. Would prefer if PN hires someone with a verified track record.

100% AGREE. Go get experienced people who are experts at what they do. G5 schools are the places to learn how to be a coordinator, not the P5, especially with the coaches that have been hired in our division.

reading this thread, I've come to one undisputable fact.. The OP doesn't know what the "elephant in the room" analogy means..

Agree Swervin. After reading the post I didn't get the connection with the elephant in the room analogy. Still don't.

similar to the phrase "Jumped the shark." People misuse and overuse it way too much..

Tim salem has OC experience., and is currently on our staff.

Brad salem has no OC experience and on msu staff
Im assuming u are talking about brad salem and i agree i dont want someone to learn on job when we have the pieces in place to make a other run at the coastal and ACC
