The face of the NFL..............

LOL. That was truly brutal. Took Peyton down several notches in my estimation. Pathetic.
why is that? Because he likes to drink bud? I knew the snobby IPA winter harvest lager with hints of citrus crowd was getting obnoxious in their snootery but to disparage a drinker of domestic beer in such a fashion takes the cake...

guy likes bud...so do I. Said it for free. I don't recall his saying he was going to get drunk. If he did, so what, so would have I. Not sure how that shows a lack of class. Drinking alcoholic beverages in celebration, why I'm appalled. Guessing if he would have lost he would have shown up at the presser in a suit and tie and humbly answered questions instead of acting like a spoiled ten year old...
You didn't miss it cause he did not say he was going to get drunk. That's just more horse hockey........
Dude's a big guy &
Probably been drinking liquor and driving cars since he was 12
You know he's a Southerner n@

Manning's shout out to Bud is important because of the hypocritical stance the NFL has towards alcohol endorsements. The league can bring in money from beer advertisements, but players aren't allowed to advertise for alcohol. So Manning, who has a stake in Bud, is skirting around some issues here.

I have no problem with folks getting on Cam's case for not going after the fumble, it's all the other stuff I think is problematic.
What stake would that be? Or, possible Manning just likes bud and just said so....uh, never mind, I just looked it up....He owns two distributors in LA....you are correct...

Question (one I know the answer to already). Why does Manning get a free pass but posters here are excoriating Cam?

Link for historical fun!
It is pretty clear in the article that he left the field (even quoted as saying it is their field and their moment) and addressed the media appropriately in the post game press conference. He then called Brees personally.

These are not the same situations.

More importantly, they aren't near the same kind of people. Peyton isn't acting like a fool and "swaggin out" when he does anything of significance. Cam does. He wants to show out when he does something great, but literally was flopping to the ground (not to be confused with him not getting on the ground to recover his fumble) and crying when it didn't go his way. No one likes Phillip Rivers constant bitching and attitude and he is as country and white as any QB in the league.

Pathetic to try to make it about race. If a white or yellow or whatever color guy acted like Cam does, at every turn, he would be criticized about it. He has been doing it (at least) since Florida and he gets away with it thanks to his talent.

BTW, none of this means he is a bad person. He is just a petulant child.

Great defense trumps everything---he did fail in the game and after
Yup, even Brady and the Patriots would have lost to that D.... Oh wait? they did! 2 weeks ago. LOL. Honestly, that D was flat out great last night, had nothing to do with Can Newton's attitude or maturity.

By the way, what if I showed you a picture of Newton post game, big smile hugging and congratulating manning...
What would that say?
Because he did.
Honestly, what's wrong with that, seems like a mature act and good sportsmanship to me.

I don't have an issue with Peyton...
He's always been a rube...
Since college wearing white athletic socks with a suit.
rube? Seems like a pretty savvy business man to me now. Came from a wealthy family and was well educated growing up. Decked out in some pretty sharp suits nowadays (even after losses). Speaks in solid complete sentences with solid rational points made. Maybe a problem with that accent?

LOL. That was truly brutal. Took Peyton down several notches in my estimation. Pathetic.
Why, he's not a player any more, what are they going to do? Suspend him? Maybe he just likes Budweiser?

Yep, like his brother. Like big Ben... Both in much less time.
It's okay you have a man crush.
Actually I think he said he was going to drink a lot of beer 3 times and 3 times said Bud....

Lol

But
I never liked him that much ...
On the Manning qb tree he is a distant third
Liked Archie ( the best of them all)
And Eli more than him

Was pulling for Carolina and Cam...
But he sh!t the bed and then during the presser was a punk.....

But when you and the PC police started ragging on what actually happened well I couldn't resist

Spin away dude spin away ......

Please elaborate on this ski, interested in what you mean

This is going to be ill-formed, but hopefully I can convey some of what I mean at least generally. I'll state upfront that I DO think race plays a big role. Go back and look at all those scouting reports from before Cam was drafted and you'll see plenty of talk about his "disingenuous smile" and his inability to be a leader and read the defense. There's plenty of "code" there. So when that is extrapolated forward, I think a lot of how people react and write about his behavior is funneled through that lens. Why else does it bother people so much that Cam dances and not, say, Aaron Rodgers and his ridiculous discount double check?

But I think there's also a lot of stuff at play with journalists who want to be "old school" and talk about the way the game is "supposed to be played." You see a lot of this especially with the MLB. Look at how upset some folks get about bat flips.

I also think the "hot take" culture is at play a bit, too. Somewhere along the way folks arbitrarily decide if they like someone; if they play the right way. And that influences how we perceive their actions.

Ugh, I will need to come back to this and think it out more.

I don't know how you can look at how the media has treated Cam since he came into the league and deny the role of race.

Ski, I think this animosity that the press has been talking about is silly and made up. They all want to make this a racial thing, paint a picture of the "establishment" not accepting this cultural flash that is a black QB celebrating.. It is blown out of proportion if it even exists at all. Some people celebrate, some people pull a "fitz' and act humble, race has nothing to do with it. It bothers some people and some people like it..

What I question is Cam acting like it's some sort of DNA strand (or strain, not a DNA expert) that was engrained based on his culture or created and embedded in his blood from the hardships of racism and slavery.. "I am expressing myself, this is who I am." OK fine, you are an ego maniac that likes attention, it's not because of your skin color but because you are a jack ass. Nothing wrong with being that way, just call it what it is, I LIKE THE ATTENTION and don't talk like you cant deny this and it is something that must be presented in such a manner.

But back to my point on this holding back the black qb. Not to go all Rush on you here but black Qbs actually get over publicized, over indulged and built up greater than their talents demand. Look at Vick, he was going to revolutionize the game, on the cover of games and magazines based on what? His on field QB skills? NO, because he can scramble. I've heard it over and over again, how this player is gonna revolutionize the game. RG3 is an even better example.. The same hype based on what? Dude sucks, flat out sucks but he was the next coming because he was fast.. Kapernick is gonna change the game as we know it. Is he, or is he going to be out of the league in two years? Vince Young blah blah blah..

It's not their fault really, all they want to do is play. Not gonna blame Vince Young for getting overpaid, or RG3 for being the "face of the new nfl", But why are these guys elevated to super star status before they throw a ball in the NFL? Because of their college stats? Many QBs do well in college. It's becasue of their style of play. Its new, its exciting, it excites the younger fanbase, they all want to run around and jump over people and run for a first down cause it's cool. Great for jersey sales, bad for on field production.

So if anything, the color of their skin has brought them merchandising dollars and contract dollars that they wouldn't have gotten if they were white...

OK, i said it. let me have it..

The media is basically spinning all his detractors as people who only hate him because of his race. He hasn't been treated unfairly by the media, at all. He has been given a pass because of his race. He is hated because he was a smug cheater in college, who acted the exact same way at Auburn, after being kicked out of UF. He is a child and he shows it every week. Last night he just showed the other side of it. The people who don't like it and think he is rightly criticized for it are not racist for holding that opinion. In fact, the vast majority probably hold the same opinion about many white players, who can't act like a reasonable adult.

Please don't bother coming back after you think this out more. You present yourself as some sort of an "expert" on this topic like we're all waiting for your opinion?????
It's 2016 and most of the professional athletes in the NFL are black which has been the case for a lot of years. Its all about winning not about race. A large percentage of the TV analysts are black in addition to media people. Teams would field a green man from Mars as QB if he could win games and the Superbowl.
What a ridiculous post! OMG people like you are scary and part of the problem not part of the solution for sure!
It is what it is for Cam Newton.
Here's an excerpt in blue below from Bill Reiter a National Columnist who's a big supporter of Newton:

Let's start with Newton. After a terrible game and an inexplicable play where he didn't try to retrieve a crucial fumble, the dabbing, dancing, divisive superstar turned in a postgame press conference that was an all-timer on the petulance scale. He was short. He was curt. He pouted. He glared. He gave his haters ammunition and his supporters -- I speak knowingly here -- deep second thoughts. Then he dashed off like some kind of unprofessional prima donna.

Even in the forgiving light of a Monday morning, the Panthers QB's behavior was absolutely unacceptable. No question. Bill Reiter

Where did I paint myself as an expert? I was responding to someone who directly asked me to elaborate on a comment I made.

Moron.

Yep, the NFL hasn't seen a quarterback like him yet. Glad he failed, a little humility would help.

Ah, you know the race card would be pulled to explain why people are getting on Cam for his boorish behavior. Fact is, if any other person acted like a petulant child after losing the game, they'd have been criticized just as much. More to the point, if Cam wants to go around bragging about how he is proud that hes an example for young kids to look up to, then perhaps he should walk the talk when he faces a bit of adversity.

Lots of people dislike Tom Brady as well. Did you hear the boos when he was introduced. Cant imagine if that happened to a black QB.......

Contrary to what the PC white guilt crowd wants you to believe, Cam is being criticized because he acted like a buffoon..........his skin color had absolutely nothing to do with it.........similarly, many people dislike Johnny Manziel......

Do you really think that was my, or anyone's criticism of the Bud comment?

it's brutal because it was a boldfaced, shameless shill, as it turns out for his own distributorship interests. Also, I've had plenty of Budweisers in my own right, but with every pre-teen and teenage boy in the country watching, it probably wasn't the best message to send that the way you celebrate a big victory is to crush a shit ton of red white and blues.

I don't know whether anyone here has mentioned it or not, but there have been comparisons made between Newton and Russell Wilson - 2015.

After Wilson threw the devastating interception in the last year's Super Bowl, he stayed in the locker room afterward and answered everyone's questions with grace and professionalism. Wilson's poise was amazing, given what he'd just done. His heart was broken, but he stood-up and handled it like no other. The difference between the two quarterbacks was striking.

Before condemning him, I would suggest examining his complete body of work when it comes to behavior. Maybe I missed it in this thread but I didn’t see any reference to his actions (within 90 seconds of the ones he’s being skewered over in this thread) when someone put a Super Bowl Champion hat on his head during the Wolfson interview and he took it off when congratulated by Cam Newton and then again when Ron Rivera approached him. To be that aware of the moment to show that degree of sportsmanship by not appearing to rub it in their faces speaks volumes about his character.

I am by no means a Peyton Manning apologist but I am a fan of athletes with off-field behavior as stellar as their on-field performance. With so many Pacman Jones’ in the NFL and all of their dreadful on and off field behavior, I think there are certainly more deserving targets for contempt than Peyton Manning.

I will add to look back at how Manning handled himself after the shellacking he took from the Seahawks. He did all the interviews signed kids autographs. and even checked up on Richard Sherman to see if his ankle was badly hurt. He handled himself with class and picked himself up from the ashes to come back and fight another day....and win. Cam should take note.

Peace,

Rogue

Manning had a lot more experience with losing big games.
