The great Jeffrey Capel

To be fair, very few people criticizing the Capel hire at the time. Its easy to be critical about the extension but much less about the initial hiring.

I think much of the lack of criticism initially with the Capel hiring was just hope or optimism about being able to be better than what we had with Stallings. And we all thought that a Coach K disciple just HAS to be better than what we had. As it turns out now, we're no better than with Stallings and in some ways worse. Forget the records. Both Stallings and Capel are bad in ways beyond the records.

So now we sit with no hope for next year and undetermined prospects for any kind of competent coach beyond next year once Capel and his staff are kicked to the curb.

I don't think he realized just how difficult recruiting would be for him. I am sure he blames Pitt for this but I think he thought he'd be able to live in that 50-150 range. The fact he went about 0 for 10 on landing a big in his 1st class and wound up with Coulibaly was an early precursor.

Capel is great with blaming everything and everyone else for his faults and incompetence. But that's about all he's good at.
