If these people in Allen, Texas, 20,000 seat / 60M Stadium and Prosper, Texas, 12,000 seat / 12M Stadium can build these stadiums from only a small part of a municipal bond totaling $710M, then the NEWPITTSTADIUM.COM with 50K to 60K can be built on the OC Lot for under 200M.

Come on people, we're better than Texas School Districts????

That's a great idea. Let's build it where most of the only existing parking is.

Does anyone remember the model that Steve Peterson was parading around during the early part of his first time at Pitt? I recall he had it in New York City during the Big East tournament where he unveiled it at a golden Panther event... I believe it was held in the hotel Pennsylvania across the street from MSG. He handed out a booklet, with the X # of phases for renovating Pitt Stadium. It included ripping down Fitzgerald field house, restructuring the football stadium... and a new basketball arena being connected to the football stadium at the Press Box. It was a Cheesy little event with a bathtub filled with beer and ice and some light snacks and hors d'oeuvres... yet still, we wrote checks. Please, if anybody remembers this, speak up and fill in the blanks.

Anyway, I think it would take ripping down the Peterson Event Center & Fitzgerald Field House, and probably some housing and then going back to a plan like that. Which would be considered absurd by Pitt standards and will not happen in my lifetime. So I need to be content with Heinz Field. ... as far as parking, I guess the plan would be to park at Heinz and then bus up to Oakland.

There is already a spot for a 50k-55k seat on campus stadium and you don't have to get rid of any parking. The problem is who is going to write the $300m check....

And that location is?
Down along the river, hazelwood area. Buying land from RIDC, it's getting worked out. We are building a tram up the mountain gonna connect Oakland, it's gonna be sweet.

Tailgate on boats, ferries across river from south side, tailgate pre and post game on water, Chicks in bikinis or less, will be sick.

You left out zip lines from all directions. That'll be epic.

Pitt should buy CMU's stadium expand it to 50,000 seats, allow CMU to use it. It already has a 700 car parking garage adjacent to it. Students, alums, and fans could easily walk or shuttle on game day from the Pitt campus to the games and back . This makes the Pitt campus relevant on game days.

Okay, but how do you plan on expanding that to 50K? There's barely enough room for the existing 3,500 seats as it is.

My half-serious/half-joking proposal: In 2014, Populous did a study called "Designing the future college football experience." (I recommend you checking out the link, good read) Essentially, they concluded that what people enjoy the most about game days is the atmosphere, and that they'd want to be as close to it and with it as possible. So they designed a stadium that's different than anything seen today. Instead of its own structure, it's built into the campus using existing structures and green spaces. The entire thing is meant to be used year-round and for activities outside of sports. It also features seating that is "far from traditional." I couldn't think of anything closer to this than the Pete lawn. How cool would it be to have the field on the lawn and the seating made up of existing features such as the knoll/hill, Pete walking platforms, and built into the dorm rooms? Somehow you squeeze 40,000 into it and you don't have to tear down or construct any new structures for the most part. This will definitely never happen, but I thought it was actually a pretty cool idea; something completely unique and different than what we're used to.

Oh a taxpayer funded bond! Genius...

No, A University of Pittsburgh Municipal bond of less than 250M which was recently redeemed by Pitt (I owned it) at 4% with AAA ratings. Pitt won't even have to raise tuition to at for it. And it will completely sell in 45 minutes.

The closest stadium comparison we have is TCF at Minnesota. That cost $339 million and they and the State owned all the land they needed. I applaud your efforts but asking Pitt to take on $340 million for a new stadium in today's climate is simply unrealistic. The state covered half of the cost, we will never be so lucky.

That also isn't big enough for a full sized stadium. But hey, a third graders crayon drawing made it look like it could, so there is that.

That's the whole problem isn't it? The cost of a stadium is likely prohibitive on its own. But factor into the excavation and preparation of the sight, the infrastructure work that has to be done, it is really cost prohibitive. Comparing a stadium in Texas where they just have land to be all, flat land with just prarie dogs vs a hilly terrain with old buildings, narrow streets and a population density rivaling that of Brooklyn certainly lends a bit more complications.

It is very simple. People in Texas care more about football success than we do. That also goes for fans of almost every other BCS program. Our athletic department is more focused on upgrading non revenue producing sports, but engaging football fans about uniform/logo choice is a cheap alternative to keep us distracted. And they will likely even screw that up again for the 7th time in a 20 year period.
