Capt, appreciate the the thought but no thanks to the psu crowd... never.

Why would anyone feel a desire or need to be united with the Nitters, & Hoopies.
First off we all hate eachother a lot!! That unites us in a different way!
Second the Nitter kids and fans are primarily Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, fans!
We live in the vicinity and can attest to that.
They draw from all over PA but the kids from Philly area, Eastern, South Central, and Central PA mostly go to Nitter U! Those areas are heavily populated and are Philly fans from birth!

Isn't St College equally close to Philly?

WV is in another state!

How are they presumed to be Steeler fans?
Weirton is about 45 minutes from Pittsburgh without traffic. When I last went to Morgantown, I saw Steeler stuff everywhere. Wheeling too. The Steelers have done offseason appearances in Hagerstown, which is well into what should be Rats and Skins territory. In Ohio, You can find Steeler fans as far west as Zanesville, and definitely in Canton, and of course Youngstown. 45 years of mostly consistent winning will expand your fanbase like nothing else.

I know your position and feelings of PSU & WVU and accept those views by all Posters that differ, they Fans that feel the same way towards PITT, so be it. Sports both unites and divides people, so be that too, I like it has more positives than negatives and the games we all witness this terrific Season were the Best I have seen in years among the 3 Programs and I stay in touch with key respected Boosters and some that work at all 3 Universities.

However, a I will share with you a few ways to energize some banter that makes it a joy to respect how to use Sports to fun, banter, and you may enjoy.

I worked in a few Cities and became great friends and they supported the their Teams over the Steeler's. But I extend that often to my own WVU & PSU Freinds as well. Whenever they would beat the Steeler's I would get call, but that was less often than them calling me. When the Steeler's or Pitt does win, and we get and give calls get together, and the Pitt or Steeler's do win.....I just say...."You know I was very tired and fell asleep and can you describe and tell me what happen in that game"???? Then I watch or listen and then ask questions even though I watched the entire games and then ask what happen then, what big play happen, how did that guy get pass him, etc etc. they finally caught on after awhile but it is fun to do with strangers that are fans too and play dumb as they have to explain the Pitt or Steeler Win, often Quarter by Quarter and take it until they say, I have to go, or catch on and it is great fun.

I still want to play, enjoy, and accept there will always be banter between the programs, but I defend Pitt and accept aspects where Pitt has to get better but, in all honesty, Pitt has held it own against both Universities in Academics, Athletics, and Aspects it is easy to refute and confront have that admit they were either ignorant about Pitt and then get very upset when I point out the shortcomings of their own Schools and it shuts them up, or brings on questions, or upset them for them to go away.

Banter is part of Sports but so is Respect for the Game and no one is bigger and better because some guys and gals that actual play those games always have respect for their opponents whether they win or lose, and know the honor was in competing not demeaning.

So much for little people and on the Lair i have done that many times to the smaller minds until we educate them to be better Posters. and they are free to do the same on their own Rival Blogs. So be that too!

Also, no thanks to the Steelers.
Many Ohio State, Kent State, Toledo, Dayton, UCincy, and other Alumni on the Steeler's and the Steeler's often Hired Ohio Natives and Coaches that were Players and as well Penn State's WVU Players, and Pitt Alumni Coaches from Players to others playing in Buffalo, Philadelphia, Cincy and Cleveland. Those games are fun to watch too. Even Pitt Alumni players like Heyward played at OSU and is on the Steeler's, not to mention Coach Narduzzi from Ohio, and Franklin from Philadelphia Area.

Funny how that goes too, when one is glad of Pitt, Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State, Temple, and WVU Coaches or Players just to name a few help their Pro Teams win games too, and then all of a sudden become fans of those Schools and so be that too? I love watching Harrison near 40, Nix-Jones, Shazier, Heyward, Big Ben, James, Matakvich, Toussaint, Johnson, Riddick, Smith, and many others on other teams as well past, present, and future.

SCREW THE HOOPIES!!!!!!!!!!! They loathe Pittsburgh (even though they may like the Steelers, Pirates and Pens), believe me. .
Driving thru WV in 1970s once going to DC as a very young man, and listening to the Super Bowl against Dallas was pulled over by WV State Police and asked could they listen to the end of the game the last 5 minutes and two more cars showed up, so don't tell me they don't love and relate to Pittsburgh?

Great game and great day all sitting and standing outside my car listening and cheering together. Can't make them up, because it happen. Just saw how Sports can bring people together and none cared i was a Pitt Fan.

PoSU fans are delusional, arrogant a-holes no matter how the Steelers are doing.
Some truth in that, when i lived in Philly the Boo Birds hated many things including themselves, when I read or see or hear how some PSU Fans attack Penn State or Pitt, Ohio State, and Michigan, are from in and around Philadelphia. Many also did not graduate nor could into OSU, Michigan, Penn State, Pitt, or WVU?

Many Post on BWI and Troll here on the Lair and many OSU, UM, PSU, PITT, and WVU that do post on the Lair where we share to learn together with respect and don't get banned and often made myself Stand corrected and that is OK by me, Smart Posters Learn by mistakes too, so do Players, and sometimes the only people that stay stupid are those full of hate and that is their mistake and easy to point out in Posts with respect!

I'd rather not be associated with those fan bases.
But you do enjoy when Pitt beats them? Like they do when they beat Pitt!

And if both are Steeler's Fans, you can relate and set aside that kind of Banter when someone makes Tackles, TDs, or Catch.....I know when Miami of Ohio's Big Ben & OSU's Santonio Holmes caught that Winning TD against Arizona after Pitt's Larry Fitzgerald gave them them lead with VT's Grad & Temple Former Steeler's Coach against Whisenhunt and other Steeler's still made that a great Steeler Win while respecting what the other Players did too in the losing.

Or when Pittsburgh's Bishop Boyle's Mike McCarthy that began his career at Pitt Grad Assistant in late 1980s after graduating from Baker University and later led the Packers to beating Steeler's in the Super Bowl. If Tomlin ever left the Steeler's I would love to see Mike McCarthy return to Pittsburgh, but is just me?

Confirmed and I spent some time in Erie and saw Steeler;s, Browns, and Bills Bars and Fan Bases! Lived in Rochester and witness Jets and Giants and Bills Fans!

True and many just not a few hate everything including their own Penn State and Philly Sports Teams and are big mouths as well. There are more Posts everyday on BWI attacking Penn State and blaming them for The Penn State Football Scandal and ignore that Penn State lacked Institutional Control and Athletic Integrity for Decades that led to covering up the Crimes and exposed the deficiencies on Athletic Integrity Compliance's and still do and chased the smarter PSU Posters away from them and post on the Lair?

They show up on Flyers, Eagles, Phillies, and 76ers too. The Dude at WVU lurks everywhere looking for a New conference and then there is Pnnyliar searching and trolling in Dumpsters and proud of it?

These are not fans but closer to North Koreans that were taught nothing but Hate against some others but love Leaders that hurt them everyday?

The only thing Pitt, Pedd State and WVU fans share is a need to breathe oxygen.
Although if you're making the trip to psu for the game next year, I'd suggest not breathing their oxygen. Definitely don't drink the water. It hasn't yet been proven which is the one that causes the brain disease in that area.

WV is definitely Steelers' Country. Not sure about State College, but guessing it has a fair amount of Eagles/Flyers contingent... heck, I recall that even my freshman dorm at Pitt was overrun with Eagles/Flyers fans "from outside of Philly". We always joked that nobody was actually ever born and raised in Philly... everyone was from "just outside of Philly".

Philly students come here in droves to go to school. Makes sense as they get the tuition break, as well as state aid. Those who don't want to spend 4 years in the wilderness, or at one of the state schools have to look at Pitt as a good deal.

The northern WV panhandle has a strange mix of fans. One woman I know -- a Weirton native -- went to WVU and roots for the Cincinnati pro teams. Her dad likes the Browns but her brother is a Steelers fan all the way. Asked about her allegiance to the Reds and Bengals, she said that they had better radio reception from Cincinnati than Pittsburgh at night, so that's who she followed.

Pretty evenly split in State College between the PHILA and Pixburgh fans.... I think the Steeler fandom could extend farther east than vice versa for the Eagles. South Central PA has a heavy Baltimore presence and up northeast above 80 you find New York (Yankee and Giants) fans.

Only on message boards does this stuff take place. In the real world, like at games, very few incidents occur, and people get along just fine. Steelers fans get along with each other no matter where they're from.

Hi Cap't, I'm with you on some... freindly banter is the best. I work with many nitters and they act live they can give 2 craps about PITT, say the patented "who's PITT have this weekend"... of which I respond with who does XYZ(the team that the nitters play). After the rose bowl I asked them did you see the USC game...
The nitters I work with will mention recruits, losses and never the Wins.

The arrogance is sort of like taxation without justification.

Columbus. Bud Light ran a team can special in the fall and Steelers were prominent. Two radio stations carry the Steelers here and the number of Steelers fans grows.

I met the same but I prefer the Classy Penn State Fan and Friends and Professionals I know and we have tons of fun whether either Team Wins or Loses Big Plays Respected and accept sometimes agree to disagree, but treat each other as they want their Program, Players and Schools treated and that means not afraid to criticize each others views as well and change those views.

Just me and understand if others feel differently and there was swagger once but they now know what a myth too, yet still terrific program and school. Same for Pitt.

I have been invited to a few Pitt-Wvu and Pitt-Psu Marriages too, and trust me, if you want to be respected that can be a fine line to watch the game at those homes. But they make it work and it is always about them, their children, and schools sports third. Banter sure but never disrespect.

I'll leave it at this, if all that Post here could have Pitt, WVU, Penn State and Another Program every year or ever 2 to 3 years in the CFB Playoffs would you accept it or not want it? I would, so I would love to play both every year.

Cap't, I've been at fellow PITT guys weddings and total garbage nitters that started to chant the we are bullcrap during the bridal dance.... turned into a throw down that blue and gold was vistoriuos again.

Wvu is wvu, crazy maniac fans but do not think they are the best on the planet, nitters I can't stand.

Do you live among the Hoopies like I do? I disagree with your assessment. Strongly. According to them, they can fill Wembley stadium with fans from the outer reaches of Preston County and gather "all their fans all over the world" and beat the 85 Bears. If you mention the combined record of the teams they beat (50-63 btw) and tell them they don't play nobody with their most impressive win versus BYU, you will be crucified and told 17 different ways from Sunday how the Texas 12 is the best conference. EVER. And WVU is the standard bearer.

Pitt fans bash PSU and WVU fans for being thinking they are better than everyone. Pitt fans bash each other for not thinking that way.
