I've been laughed at (as have others) but have posted on a few occasions that Sanders' mother (and his pops to an extent as well) was a major roadblock. However Sanders REALLY liked Chaney so when he left that ship mostly sailed.

If I had to guess I would think she just doesn't want him to back out from his commitment. He seemed pretty unsure for a long time, so she probably told him to just stop looking around and stick to where he committed.

Did Matthews officially flip to Pitt though? Other than this thread and the Pat Signal today I haven't heard anything else about that.

That's where my info begins and ends - for whatever reason she wanted him at PSU. I don't have any idea why - maybe she digs snake oil. I know an active coach at a big time Quad A team and an ex coach that was around for a while. That was the word on the street so to speak. Never asked why and I don't think they really knew either.

Yea. Ppl bag on Central for recruiting (which they do). But Smith was much worse. No telling what he'd do given the resources.

Unless her son doesn't want to go to PSU. I can see that he verballed early, but, like other recruits, has seen that Franklin can't coach. Maybe he was concerned about that, in addition to the OC being fired and losing two other coaches. In that case, Mom should have allowed him to open up and see what might be a better fit.

She doesn't need to give you or anyone else a reason. That's family stuff, whatever the reason is it's their business. Let's get off this kid already, he was never coming to Pitt, good luck to him, on to more important business--which hopefully we take care of at 6:40 p.m.. As I said, if we finish with Hambone, Camp and Matthews, we should all open our oldest bottles of scotch and light up our best cigars. That will be a damn nice class.

Well, it is true, it is only a verbal. That is why they have 2 periods so you dont have to be bound by some decision you made long ago.

In Sanders case he made the decision LONGGGGG ago. It really wouldnt be bad to switch if he changed his mind. After all, colleges wouldnt care to fire a coach, and Sanders has no idea who the UPS coach will be in 2017
