This "island" garbage does not work in modern football. It gets masked from time to time when a team does not have the proper personnel to exploit it. But you just can't do it anymore. Wait until the Coastal has done half-respectable quarterbacks/receivers again. I'm cool with parting ways with Pat at this point, because you just can't win this way. Let's join the 21st Century and hire an offensive guy. There aren't many building blocks we'd be losing anyway. I like our incoming class, but not as much as I dislike our horse's behind of a head coach.

My dog is a faster learner than you, Pat Narduzzi. It only takes 135 time before he learns to stop doing something that produces shit results over and over again.

Agree with the premise, but this team has probably already faced the best QB’s it will see this year. Other than (maybe) DeVito of Syracuse the rest are a motley bunch.

And of course the opposing staff knows it too. Which means they can keep doing something that works over and over and not have to adjust.

This year, yes. What about future years? And how good do you really have to be to throw it up for grabs? See: Syracuse's backup in 2016.

I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say we have already faced the 4 best QB’s we will see in Perkins, Rourke, Clifford, and Gabriel. I like DeVito, but I’m thinking the others should not be able to exploit the secondary with deep balls like we saw today.

I almost dare to say that Pickett is as good or better than any QB Pitt plays against the rest of the year.

Not to mention that Patti looked excellent in a backup role!

But then you're starting off with a self-imposed ceiling for wins. "We can beat you if you can't spread the field." I just don't love that premise.

You calling anyone a loser is hilarious! We win a huge game, and you criticize! This is exactly what I said about you the other day. You constantly whine... Thanks for proving my point...... LOSER....

I think his statement is fair, it was disturbing and unusual to see a team complete so many deep balls with ease. It’s also fair to say that Gabriel throws a really, really good deep ball.

Was there anything complimentary in hos post about today’s big win???? No. So not even one hour after the game he brings out the knives?

Everyone is free to do whatever they like of course but how was he wrong?

I’m sure there are a few who are flaming and or trolls but some of the criticism and even negativity is valid even in victory.

Sure, but it’s usually mixed in with compliments...There was none to be had...

Agreed, I always tend to look for negatives after a win and positives after a loss. It gives me a better perspective on what will happen moving forward.

That being said to me Kessman is the huge negative coming out of this game. This Pitt team doesn’t have a large margin for error, he is going to be the difference in deciding wins or losses in a couple games this year. Hopefully he shakes it off.

Even the most positive or even naive idiot could spin the kicking issue. That’s a major issue.

I think the concern is we’ve seen this time and again with Narduzzi’s defenses. The first two years the gameplan against us was literally just chuck it deep to a WR and hope for a catch or PI.

The concern for me is lack of adjustments with safety help over the top.

The defense looked fine before Mathis and Pinnock were hurt. This defense requires personnel and fortunately Pitt now has it. Jackson, Mathis and Pinnock are excellent.

Unfortunately, the personnel became injured during the game and it did heavily affect the D until near the end of the game.

I might be wrong, but it seemed like the bulk of the over the top throws were after pinnock and Mathis were injured.

That may be true but also may mean it may be more necessary to adjust. The replacements are likely to need more help over the top than those 2. I think the overriding concern is just Narduzzi’s stubbornness in general. Which is probably common among head coaches.

Hamlin has been getting beat like a rented mule all year. We were saved by their guy being out of bounds a few times. And even if Jackson, Mathis, and Pinnock are good enough to shut it down, that means you have to recruit guys who are good enough to play that style. We've already seen what happened to Michigan State in years where they didn't have shutdown corners. It's just really restrictive.

And isn't it a fault on Narduzzi to continue playing that style after they got hurt?

Every coverage (cover 0, 1, 2, 3, 4) becomes one on one "on an island" if your opponent has four vertical threats/a single back offense at some point. Like literally if a safety has to worry about a slot receiver, every coverage is going to require your corner to match up on the #1 from the sideline and play that fade alone.

Now should we press as much as we do is another question.

They were still playing stoneage football in the Big Ten when he was there so it worked.

We didn't get beat over the top ad nauseam? Did I miss something? I stand by my post, loser.
you realize they were without 2 of their top defensive backs? What happened in the 1st half?

The defense is playing and played today without quality players. Say what you want, but Central Florida didn't do s@@@ until the A J Davis fumble, Pinnock and Hamlin getting hurt
