The preferred option would have been keeping Dixon, but if it had to happen then we should have held out for more buyout money and then went after Musselman. We could have easily doubled his salary.

I’m on the record as a big Musselman fan, guy is a hell of a coach.

Off topic slightly, but I always laugh at the people who say UNLV is still paying for players. When Lon Kruger was coach he actually paid for a good portion of their marketing budget out of his own pocket, and was embarrassed when it was revealed on local radio. He was repaid for it, but it still said a lot about what their former boosters were willing to do. You would have to be brain dead not to be able to recruit to UNLV with their ties, it says a lot about how lousy Dave Rice and Marvin Menzies are as coaches.

The only problem with Musselman is he has an NBA background and eventually he’s going to be heading back there.

I just love these contracts , a guy making in excess of a million dollars can’t afford his own car or country club dues !
These guys are so overpaid and the poor schools can’t find any money for the athletes .
No wonder there’s cheating in college sports , wouldn't you pay a kid 100k to come to your school if he could turn your program around . Your team goes from an also ran to a sweet sixteen school if you have 2 or 3 of these guys .
The school makes millions in increased ticket sells , concessions , merchandise , local media rights , and donations .
The coach either gets a substantial raise or becomes the next hot coach on the market and makes millions more on a long term guaranteed contract .
There’s something rotten in Denmark !
