This is why coaches do not stay at Pitt

It has to be so frustrating to recruit a kid for well over a year, then have a blue blood snatch him up over the weekend. Pitt has to fight just to get in the mix with the 4 & 5 star type of recruits. The big dogs usually have another 4 star waiting when they get turned down. A coach has to work way too hard recruiting at Pitt.

Somehow, this type of culture must change if we want to win big and keep a good coach.

My brother in law, former president of the Notre Dame letterman's club, told me how much he dislikes Kelly. Says that he is an ass, and he should be doing much better with the talent that he gets. Said that he has the president's ear, but he's an ass too.

Wrong. You win first then recruiting will get better. Everyone seems to forget abut shula in Alabama. And USC isn't doing so well because they haven't really won since Carroll left. Hate to say it but what did asu do before graham, now they get better recruits. And really for the recruits nd gets they are average. Based on the opinions here they would and should be in the national championship conversation every year in December (and not in September as is normal ). As al Davis said "just win baby". Do that recruiting will approve. To put a twist on the field of dreams- win and they will come. Not the other way around.

Arizona State did nothing of note before Godd Graham and they still don't. Still hasn't won an outright conference title and his one division title came when USC was barred from the postseason.

You need to show that you can work with what you have before recruits show interest. Purdue was a graveyard before Joe Tiller showed up and started tossing the ball all over. Dude upset Notre Dame in his first season and won a bowl game with some schmoe named Billy Dicken and suddenly Drew Brees is interested. Tiller leaves and Purdue is back to being a dump.

I would like to think that Pitt aspires to be lot more than Purdue in the Joe Tiller years. Actually, I think we are there now.

They're more similar than not, especially from an attendance/funding standpoint.

Probably so. Totally random, but here is Purdue's old jumbotron, purchased for $480,000, at use at a small 2A high school in Tennessee.

Given that Pitt's coaches recently went to ASU and Wisconsin, those aren't blue bloods either, but apparently better than Pitt. I guess that means Pitt's 2 tiers away from Blue Blood. Might be even worse on the hoops side. Howland did go to UCLA, but who wouldn't? But speaking louder is the fact that basically nobody wanted to go to Pitt except a guy on the hot seat at his prior school. So it is what it is, Pitts either a last resort or a stepping stone as a place to get started.

the good news is as well there is one less blue blood these days with Ped State in a tizzy things will get worse over there making our chances better as well

Losingthi skid won't chase any of these coaches away lack of money will

seems like we are in or get some buckeye targets as well

don't think we will be Alabama next year

Pitt is on the rise

enjoy it

Hail to Pitt

Any team that's rebuilding has to work hard at recruiting - not just Pitt. Unfortunately, Pitt made it even harder for themselves by engaging in their self-destructive coaching carousel.

And don't think that the "Big Boys" aren't recruiting hard, too. Several months ago (maybe it was on LOI Day?), they ran a feature story on Clemson's "Recruiting Machine" and why it's so successful. It's remarkable the effort that they put into recruiting: they have a wing of a building designated just for their recruiting staff - many of whom are students working there...maybe it's a work-study program?

It would take a hell of a salesman to consistently beat the blue blood programs...

Our guys are football coaches not salesmen. I'm fine with that, however we need to recruit top 25 classes or close.to.it.
Well Pittsburgh is capable of recruiting top 20-30 rated classes since Wanny proved it. Nuz might not be capable of recruiting like that. If Nuzz can win 8-9 games a couple of seasons, his recruiting class will move up to 25-30 rated.
