This might be dumb, but do I need to wear boots to the game?

The grass is typically high, so it will be dewy wet in the morning. Otherwise, the lots will be fine.

Glad the rain missed there. We live 2 hrs south and had 1 inch of rain with a tornado

Even an inch of rain a few days before hand wouldn't really affect the parking lots.
There really are no cement parking lots for general parking, most of it will be in grass. They don't have parking for 50,000 cars. What paved parking areas will be available are going to long be accounted for by regulars who are there tailgating.

And where some folks here who aren't regulars will end up parking will be in pasture type fields. They are thick grass fields and if it hasn't rained in the last few days they will be okay.

Most parking is on grass. You'll be fine.

Only when there is heavy rains the day before or day of the game does it become an issue and that's due to vehicle traffic making it muddy

Jeffburgh, The paved parking areas are not for “regulars” but are numbered reserved parking for those who have donated a minimum of $2,500 to the Levi Lamb scholarship foundation.

that is what i meant, some pitt fan isn't rolling into state college tomorrow morning and getting parking in one of the paved lots around the stadium.

Actually you'll see scalpers with parking passes for the paved lots (red, pink, parts of green, parts of purple). I have no idea what they charge though

Last time I went up there was 97. Took about two hours to get out of Centre County afterward. Has the new interstate to Altoona made things any better?

The two main bottlenecks now are getting out of the lots (if you exit the lots on the NW side, Park Ave) and if you're heading southeast on Rt 322 as it goes from four to two lanes a few miles out of town.

Otherwise, the rest is interstate with I-99 right there and that connecting to I-80

I posted this in the parking thread below. There are 2 garages you can park in if you're not going for the all-in tailgating scene. One by the Nittany Lion Inn on Park Avenue directly off Atherton (322 Business). The other is the East Deck, which is closer to the stadium. For both, turn onto West park Ave off Atherton St. (322 Business). Nittany Lion Inn deck is on your right. Go to the Inn for good food a cocktail or clean restrooms.

For the East Deck, you MUST stay in the right lane. Traffic cops will try to direct you to a different lane. If you tell them you are are parking in the East Deck, they will let you pass. Make a right on Bigler Rd. Parking deck is on the immediate right. I believe cash parking there was $25 last weekend. Not sure because I use a parking pass. You can set up your tailgate there as well, but it's a garage.
