is exactly why I have tempered expectations for Pitt this year. No matter how decorated the coach, it is hard to win your first year. Michigan hasn't had nearly the turnover we've had the last five years, but Harbaugh is going to struggle against good teams (like Utah). HCPN will do the same.

That's former Heisman Trophy winner, NFL bust, and stubbly empty head, Matt Leinart.

I think you forget how bad they were last year. They were 5-7. They beat App St, Miami (OH), PSU, Indiana, and Northwestern. Not exactly a great string of wins.

They lost to Rutgers by 2, Maryland by 7. The rest of their games they lost by at least 2 TDs.

'good teams', yeah- but nothing much matters if its annually ysu or toledo or whoever.
I'd start there.

Would it be worth pointing out the irony of someone complaining about "yinzer" nonsense when they skip the words "to be" as in "needs to be ripped out"...you know...like a yinzer? Also it's spelled "woe." We're glad you left town too. You single-handedly lowered the average IQ of the city by 100 points when you lived here.

We were also under .500 and lost to bad teams. That's why I think people who predict 9 wins for this team are nuts. I sincerely hope I'm wrong, but I bet I'm not.

We actually have a much better offensive base for Duzzi to work with. UM has no QB or O line.

However, the D is already twice as good as it was under Hoke.

I think we're in better position to so well this year than UM is, as long as our O line is healthy.

One can see that Harbaugh has improved his Players as a Team versus Hoke, but like you said earlier he still has a way to go to make a complete Team. I think they will be better towards the end of the season, but as you stated they are a work in progress.

It will be interesting to see the contrast with coach Pat & Staff first game as Head Coach, at least Harbaugh has had that experience on College and Pros?

Had the Michigan Wideout not run the wrong pattern Michigan would have had the lead instead of an Interception. This is how just not running the right pattern by just 4 feet made the difference in the game. Michigan lost away by 7 points, that play alone was part of losing the game.

Hard to win without a QB. Michigan's QB was very bad.

You did not take into consideration that Michigan has absolutely NO firepower on offense, none. At the RB, WR, and QB positions we are considerably better. THAT is why my expectations are higher.

Exactly. Their offense is terrible. They will get better by the end of the year.

They'll be fine. Utah is a good team and Michigan actually outplayed them for most of the game. Honestly, Michigan looked a little better than what I was expecting.

Interesting fact- in Harbaugh's first games at San Diego, Stanford and now at Michigan, each game was a loss and they scored 17 in each....

Pitt won't be breaking in a new QB, with a first stringer not announced until...well Michigan never announced actually, fans had to wait until the offense took the field to learn who their starter was. And the starter was a grad transfer from Iowa, and Hawkeye fans were only too glad to see him in another uniform.

Michigan is really bad, lets not forget that. Utah has better players. Pitt has 2 of the very best players in the country at critical positions.

Pitt is better than Michigan.

It's a cautionary tale for sure. New coaches are prone to stumble immediately.

Our game will feature two new hc, of course. But one at least has had hc experience before.

It could be an interesting game for sure (most likely in a bad way for us, if so). And I definitely don't expect a crisp well played game on either side.

How did Michigan outplay Utah, in any phase? They rushed for like 70 yards.

Defensively they were decent, that's about it. Offensively their last score with under a minute left was against a prevent package. As far as I'm concerned those don't count.

I think Pitt's skill position closet on offense is a little fuller than what Harbaugh inherited. Wittingham's teams are always solid and not afraid to punch somebody in the mouth out of the gate (see Pitt from a few years ago in Utah). Expectations should be realistic - mistakes will happen - this is complete gut feeling here, but Narduzzi strikes me as a leader who can make necessary scheme and mental adjustments quicker and get the team back on track. I think 8 wins might be this team's ceiling, but that is at least in the right direction.

Well, Michigan looked alittle worse than I was expecting to be honest. They have still recruited well for the most part, so had good talent and personal.

But right on about the comment about not expecting miracles. Last nights game has abslutely no bearing on whether Harbaugh is the right man for the job or a great coach. I have no doubt he is and will be an excellent coach and fit for Michigan.

It is like the weekly talk with Sam Werner, and shows just how little he knows. Someone asked if he would give Narduzzi good marks so far as a coach and he said he doesnt know, he will determine that after the first few games. That sort of short-sightedness is just what has gotten Pitt in trouble over the years. I mean Narduzzi going 6-6 this year would have NO IMPACT on how he is as a college coach and it is silly for a beat writer to say that about a coach that has done everything he could do right... right so far. Lombardi went 6-6 his first year, Chuck Noll was 1-11 Tom Landry was 2-10... many other examples too.

Anyways, cant wait until we gain the prominence I think we will. Ive been wrong before, but I am more impressed with Gallagher too so I feel that if Narduzzi becomes a star, that Gallagher will find a way to keep him here.

Beginning a new regime by opening at a team like Utah isn't exactly ideal.

They'll probably end up fine this year. Of course, what worked for Harbaugh at Stanford may not translate at all at Michigan.

Keep in mind, Brady Hoke went 11-2 including the Sugar Bowl in his first season, using Rich Rod's players.

This year is a rebuild for UM and they WILL struggle. Harbaugh knows this. They are a year away from having a serviceable O line or QB. Harbaughs system depends on a strong run game. That can't be built in his first year. Info agree that they should be much better by the end of the season than they are right now, but they are gonna take some big lumps for sure. MSU and OSU in particular will annihilate them. Those games will not be pretty.

Unbelievable, a program as big as Michigan and they struggle with the QB position every year. Their last 2 decent QB's were Henne and Harbaugh. WOW.
