This season was always going to be rough

we have seen the reverse, team has gotten far worse as the season has progressed. Very bad sign

Maybe regressing a bit, but then again of course we were always going c to look worse against the ACC schedule than the non con.

Team has gotten worse...coaching is a big part of the blame...there is a reason we have 4 former head coaches on the bench..they all got whacked from previous jobs.

And honestly outside of the Clemson games and duke and UNC, we have been in almost every game.

The people that are having meltdowns, I absolutely have no clue what you expected?
I didn’t expect this team to lose 10 in a row after starting 2-2 and to lose to bad teams like Wake, BC and Georgia Tech. Had Pitt played Louisville and Florida State now they would have no chance of winning either of those games and would be winless in conference just like last season. Yes they have been in a lot of games but playing hard only gets you so far eventually you gotta win games and this Pitt team is just not getting it done.

We are in year one of a rebuild from a dumpster fire. I’m just amazed at the ridiculous negativity and the crap being directed at capel.

Meanwhile, narduzzi is going into year 5 and the fanbase has a meltdown if you criticize him.

They went 0-19 in the ACC? Stallings/Barnes burnt the program to the ground. We are starting as the worst P5 program. We are less talented than EVERY team in the ACC. Xavier is currently the only ACC level starter. McGowens and toney might develop into that. JWF is at best a 6th man. Brown, Ellison, and Sidy are all mid major level players.

The fanbase needs to understand this is at least a 3-4 year rebuild. If they are 2-16 in year 3 or 4, fine, but right now this is really to be expected.

I'm starting to think both teams just cant compete in the ACC.
Very very very very sad to me.

Opponents are getting better at anticipating Pitt's every move. Opponents have more coachable parts than Pitt. I can't believe Pitt practices the way they play when the lights come on. I'd expect better shooting at home.

I’ll give Capel another few years to get things turned around I think he is a good coach and will do so but considering the way this season started with the good non conference portion beating St Louis and losing at the buzzer at Iowa and beating two top 20 teams in Louisville and FSU losing 10 in a row and seeing this team get worse as the season goes on is not what you want to see from such a young team. They are getting worse instead of getting better.

Teams figured them out. They were a one trick pony and teams locked it down.

They need more players...we have yet to see if capel can bring in enough good players but he deserves a chance. This isn’t stallings.

Perhaps, perhaps not depending on the day. Looking out in the real world, the non message board world, I think most respect and have higher expectations for Capel more than Duz. But it's still early for Capel.

Pretty much everyone, including Duz himself I think, has greatly leveled expectations for football I don't see or hear anyone gushing over Duz, not since 2016 anyway. Maybe he's not getting much hard criticism, but it's more out of indifference. Football is dead.

Basketball still has some hope though.

This team needs some ACC level players. Fast. Capel is getting marginal ACC level players. X can't do everything. And the rest will need time to develop. The incoming guys aren't ready to play in this league. And most other teams, maybe all other teams, in the ACC have improved as the year progressed. We have regressed. Playing 'Ville and FSU now would look like tonight.

This is definitely going to be a multiple year rebuild. If Capel can get some decent recruits in 2020, we have a fighting chance of making some progress in the next few years.

I still have some hope. I know it is a downer tonight but in 6 seasons in football Pitt is 27-21 with a Coastal division title and a win over the ACC champion. Basketball is much more difficult but the good news is that because of the numbers(of players needed) a quick turnaround is more likely.

There's hope but no divisions 20 game meat grinder and half the league always in top25. Right now feels like mt everest.

Plenty of criticism for Narduzzi, and he won his division last year.

This is correct, and you didn't need to throw in the Stallings dig. Every coach deserves a chance.

Of course if you replaced those games against Louisville and Florida State with games against Boston College and Wake Forest then we beat both those teams and still have two wins in the conference. And if you replace the games against, say, North Carolina and the first Syracuse game with Notre Dame and Wake then we might have four wins in the conference.

You can only play them in the order they come up on the schedule.

You can't compare football and basketball, especially with the Coastal in football being so ridiculously weak. If you can't win the Coastal in football with more than 8 wins in a season, you don't deserve a "bowl" game. Basketball, on the other hand, is so difficult in the ACC every week. Getting past 5 or 6 wins in the league will be extremely difficult without high end recruits. It's just the way it is.

Football has been nothing more than mediocre the past 30 years, and especially the past 4 or 5 years. Basketball has been a joy to watch until Barnes and Stallings showed up. I hope this trend doesn't continue past this year.

Its hard to offer a rebuttal to that statement, but for me it was this year's recruiting class that has caused the rose colored glasses to come off.
Yeah, I was disappointed in this years recruiting as well.

I do think this is the best staff in Narduzzi's tenure. I don't know if they are the best recruiting staff, but believe them to be the best coaching staff. Linebackers coach might be only weak link.

You are the only one comparing ACC football to basketball.

We've gotten worse as they've schemed against us. If they pack it in, we don't have a shooter to pass out to or a big to dump it off to. And we don't have the personnel to play pick and pop or to finish in the paint. We're one dimensional on offense.

Yep.

I don’t blame coaching this year...coach K could have come in here and not done much better with this roster.

When you are this undermanned, there isn’t much you can do.

Coming off a season were we passed for 9 yards in a game-

It’s not like the offense can be worse with new coaches.

That is a pretty silly statement.

Of course a hall of game coach could have done better.

The fact we still have no offensive game plan nor anything that remotely looks like a set play is concerning .

That we seemingly surrender 10+ 3 pointers every game to teams not known for their shooting is likewise concerning.

It sucks, but I don't what we expected. Only one of our five starters could start for another ACC team, Johnson, and even then it would be a mid tier team. Several players who have hit the court for Pitt could not make another ACC roster.

Maybe a bit better, but not much.
