The finish to this season is certainly a disappointment based on the way they started out but anyone who follows basketball and is realistic about the talent on this team should not be surprised at all. This has nothing to do with Capel and company and "coaching" but has everything to do with the Limited talent and experience on the team.
When they were winning, X and Trey were carrying the team to those victories. Like Most true frosh they've hit the wall and X's play has leveled off somewhat and Trey has been in a major funk........When Trey was playing well he was shooting well from the outside and not just driving the lane. When your two best players are not at the top of their games, and the supporting cast has limited talent.....the current stretch is not surprising.
Brown is still very raw. Yeah he can block some shots but he is almost no threat to score unless he has a wide open dunk.......You have to hope another year of practice and coaching makes him a bit more of a threat.
JWF is a great kid and when hes hot he can help a team win.........but lets be honest, hes not a guy who can carry a team.
Sydy has not been nearly as good etiher. Very good athlete and defender but his outside shot is simply not consistent enough.
Love Davis as well, great kid but lacks the confidence on offense to help the team much
Ellison plays hard but has no handle and worse yet his shooting ability is worse than most HS kids. Its shocking how bad his shot is.
Given the talent on this team........name one team in the ACC that doesnt have better talent. If anything they over achieved in the beginning of the year.
I like the kids Capel has brought in. I dont think hes finished and will bring in more kids who WILL make contributions next year. I also think X, Trey, Brown, and Davis will improve.
Im still pretty optimistic this team will at least make a legitimate run at making the dance next year
