Sub par candidates? How do you know who they are? The Millers are not the only good coaches in the country. I think there are many good candidates out there. Barnes is well-respected and connected. He will get it right. As far as losing recruits to ND, that is gonna happen at times. Great players have many choices, and some of those choices are quite attractive. ND is a national program, and beats out many other schools, including top ones for prospects. Pitt will do fine in recruiting. The staff showed its stuff last LOI, getting some top kids who had many good offers. Relax and set your negative thoughts aside. Much to like at Pitt, and much to look forward to.1. 2 great local prospects go to ND
2. Successful yet stale basketball coach goes to TCU.
3. List to replace said coach is filled with likely sub par candidates.
We might not be Temple, but we aren't not Temple either.
Take 2 APC's and see the Corpman in the morning.1. 2 great local prospects go to ND

I agree, I graduated many years ago and the brothers always pushed ND both to the athletes and to the students. As a graduate of CCHS, I find it not surprising that a few of the chosen athletes commit to ND. There has always been inherent a bias toward ND, as if as a catholic, it is your unspoken duty to submit yourself to the most renowned symbol of catholic education in America, a la, bowing toward Mecca.
Good points and perhaps you see darker days ahead, but i think otherwise while respecting your own views at this time.1. 2 great local prospects go to ND

Who we are is a football program with one of the consensus best head coaching hires, who has dramatically changed the trajectory of a lackluster Football team in one year with both wins and significantly upgraded talent on the field; and, a program which this year will feature the very best story in all of college football to remarkable national media attention. We are a Basketball program which had the vision to see that the program was heading downward with it's present collection of coaches - both in performance and recruiting, and the balls to take action on it, including unloading a coach whose CURRENT greatest value to Pitt was the prodigious buyout we received and the opportunity to reinvigorate the program in his absence. All is good! If you can't appreciate that, respectfully, you cannot appreciate this carpe diem moment

It is near impossible for Pitt to beat out ND for local recruits.......especially rich kids from a prestigious Catholic HS. I would have been surprised if they went to Pitt.
I see people getting on the OP, but did I see correctly that Barnes went to Ben Howland and offered him the job and he turned it down? Howland's at basketball power Mississippi State for heaven's sake in SEC football country and turned down coming back to Pitt in the ACC. What's that tell you? Howland would know both places and he picked to stay at Mississippi State. Mississippi State, not UCLA, not Kentucky, not Indiana but frickin Mississippi State!
Ben Howland used Pitt and his Players and left almost as bad as Todd Graham and it came back on him. Ben Howland and Steve Pederson always had their selfish own goals to go after their own dreams. They both came to Pitt to get there and left about the same time as well.I see people getting on the OP, but did I see correctly that Barnes went to Ben Howland and offered him the job and he turned it down? Boy you sure seem to talk to alot of people in the know.....Temple professors, TCU administration, PSU people......ImpressiveGood points and perhaps you see darker days ahead, but i think otherwise while respecting your own views at this time.
Funny, just talked to a Top Temple Professor close to the Temple President.
1. She said they will build a New Stadium on Campus so they can become a candidate for a Power Conference and advance redevelopment for North Philadelphia that is happening in West Philadelphia with PENN and Drexel. She said, the Neighborhood Opposition is small and unknown but is still a workable to deal so long as it is a Academic Stadium and increases Parking so that helps Temple Commuters . It will add new homes and condos like the University has been able to do with past expansions. Temple is also on the Broad Street Subway Line with easy access to Citywide Public Transportation that goes in all directions North-South and East-West for Temple, Penn and Drexel from New Jersey to Train Station to Main Line Suburbs.
2. The other opposition is the Lurie Lincoln Stadium does not want to lose the Rental Relationship because it will raise their costs, but that can be taken care of according to the New Mayor that also wants and will back more Re-Development of major portions of Philadelphia and it is being led by the universities. PENN just completed another portion of its "University City Plan" the area surrounding Penn, Drexel, and the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. "Powelton Village" in West Philly that includes just north of Penn, bordering to Drexel University's campus that will grow and advance the economy of the university and the City of Philadelphia. Including new development Expansion towards the Penn Medicine and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The expansion of both the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with equal representation on the new board envisioned to run the Jersey and Delaware that have done so over the past eight years. Other universities expansion is towards Fairmount Park with walking and biking bridge over the Schuylkill River. Collectively, the projects now have large cost over runs but PENN Graduates and connections to Investment Banking made it up in no time. More projects are ongoing with long term private leases with Penn and Drexel benefiting in the process and especially the City of Philadelphia.
She is a PENN Graduate but has stated Cities of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are bringing in Younger people that want to be adjacent to campuses, hospitals, and lively diverse atmosphere with a variety of affordable housing options, from Victorian houses to modern luxury apartments. The same can said for PITT, CMU, CHATHAM, CARLOW, POINT PARK and DUQUENSE that will increase city attractions with high student population and increase employment at the same time.
Penn State does not just plan renovations of Beaver Stadium but with plans of private and public expansion that area for increased economic development as well. So, all Three Schools along with Private Universities that are often the largest employers in the City now are the future for Urban Expansion by young diverse populations and elderly return to cities for their retirement years.

The University of Pittsburgh and CMU will lead in these projects just like PENN and Temple, but Pitt being in the ACC just 3 years now is in better position than any school in Pennsylvania even with limits of Campus. Cities will continue re-development and that is the place to look for expansion not contraction and what happens in Harrisburg on funding Public Projects happens in Pittsburgh.
Chancellor Gallagher was elected for his vision on Innovations and Finding New Ways to make dreams become realities in ever High Tech Geometric Changing Era. PITT is in the right place with the right people and partners to take advantage of all and will run towards that future, as gloom and doom blighted shadows of the past are brighten out by others that make such change happen.
Thank you, I like to talk to people and get their feed backs and then link sources they give, as well as read and be informed on issues that interest me on Boards. I ignore the majority of topics and threads every day and limit my subjects on those interests. If I read something on Pitt I will link it too, to share it.Boy you sure seem to talk to alot of people in the know.....Temple professors, TCU administration, PSU people......Impressive

Nah - he'd build a wall, not a stadium.Hire The Donald.
Tommy Clements did, too, but that didn't go so well for Pitt.Joe Montana picked ND over Pitt.
That was really a crushing blow. While he was at Notre Dame, Pitt won a national championship...without him.
