1. 2 great local prospects go to ND
2. Successful yet stale basketball coach goes to TCU.
3. List to replace said coach is filled with likely sub par candidates.

We might not be Temple, but we aren't not Temple either.

Sub par candidates? How do you know who they are? The Millers are not the only good coaches in the country. I think there are many good candidates out there. Barnes is well-respected and connected. He will get it right. As far as losing recruits to ND, that is gonna happen at times. Great players have many choices, and some of those choices are quite attractive. ND is a national program, and beats out many other schools, including top ones for prospects. Pitt will do fine in recruiting. The staff showed its stuff last LOI, getting some top kids who had many good offers. Relax and set your negative thoughts aside. Much to like at Pitt, and much to look forward to.

coming from a poster with a former Pitt coach in his avatar. Stupid

As a graduate of CCHS, I find it not surprising that a few of the chosen athletes commit to ND. There has always been inherent a bias toward ND, as if as a catholic, it is your unspoken duty to submit yourself to the most renowned symbol of catholic education in America, a la, bowing toward Mecca.

I agree, I graduated many years ago and the brothers always pushed ND both to the athletes and to the students.

Who we are is a football program with one of the consensus best head coaching hires, who has dramatically changed the trajectory of a lackluster Football team in one year with both wins and significantly upgraded talent on the field; and, a program which this year will feature the very best story in all of college football to remarkable national media attention. We are a Basketball program which had the vision to see that the program was heading downward with it's present collection of coaches - both in performance and recruiting, and the balls to take action on it, including unloading a coach whose CURRENT greatest value to Pitt was the prodigious buyout we received and the opportunity to reinvigorate the program in his absence. All is good! If you can't appreciate that, respectfully, you cannot appreciate this carpe diem moment

Good points and perhaps you see darker days ahead, but i think otherwise while respecting your own views at this time.

Funny, just talked to a Top Temple Professor close to the Temple President.

1. She said they will build a New Stadium on Campus so they can become a candidate for a Power Conference and advance redevelopment for North Philadelphia that is happening in West Philadelphia with PENN and Drexel. She said, the Neighborhood Opposition is small and unknown but is still a workable to deal so long as it is a Academic Stadium and increases Parking so that helps Temple Commuters . It will add new homes and condos like the University has been able to do with past expansions. Temple is also on the Broad Street Subway Line with easy access to Citywide Public Transportation that goes in all directions North-South and East-West for Temple, Penn and Drexel from New Jersey to Train Station to Main Line Suburbs.

2. The other opposition is the Lurie Lincoln Stadium does not want to lose the Rental Relationship because it will raise their costs, but that can be taken care of according to the New Mayor that also wants and will back more Re-Development of major portions of Philadelphia and it is being led by the universities. PENN just completed another portion of its "University City Plan" the area surrounding Penn, Drexel, and the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. "Powelton Village" in West Philly that includes just north of Penn, bordering to Drexel University's campus that will grow and advance the economy of the university and the City of Philadelphia. Including new development Expansion towards the Penn Medicine and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The expansion of both the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with equal representation on the new board envisioned to run the Jersey and Delaware that have done so over the past eight years. Other universities expansion is towards Fairmount Park with walking and biking bridge over the Schuylkill River. Collectively, the projects now have large cost over runs but PENN Graduates and connections to Investment Banking made it up in no time. More projects are ongoing with long term private leases with Penn and Drexel benefiting in the process and especially the City of Philadelphia.

She is a PENN Graduate but has stated Cities of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are bringing in Younger people that want to be adjacent to campuses, hospitals, and lively diverse atmosphere with a variety of affordable housing options, from Victorian houses to modern luxury apartments. The same can said for PITT, CMU, CHATHAM, CARLOW, POINT PARK and DUQUENSE that will increase city attractions with high student population and increase employment at the same time.

Penn State does not just plan renovations of Beaver Stadium but with plans of private and public expansion that area for increased economic development as well. So, all Three Schools along with Private Universities that are often the largest employers in the City now are the future for Urban Expansion by young diverse populations and elderly return to cities for their retirement years.

The University of Pittsburgh and CMU will lead in these projects just like PENN and Temple, but Pitt being in the ACC just 3 years now is in better position than any school in Pennsylvania even with limits of Campus. Cities will continue re-development and that is the place to look for expansion not contraction and what happens in Harrisburg on funding Public Projects happens in Pittsburgh.

Chancellor Gallagher was elected for his vision on Innovations and Finding New Ways to make dreams become realities in ever High Tech Geometric Changing Era. PITT is in the right place with the right people and partners to take advantage of all and will run towards that future, as gloom and doom blighted shadows of the past are brighten out by others that make such change happen.

It is near impossible for Pitt to beat out ND for local recruits.......especially rich kids from a prestigious Catholic HS. I would have been surprised if they went to Pitt.

I actually agree. I think this week has been a bit sobering.

Who we are is a football program with one of the consensus best head coaching hires, who has dramatically changed the trajectory of a lackluster Football team in one year with both wins and significantly upgraded talent on the field;

I don't know if the trajectory of the program is dramatically changed after one season. It wasn't double digit wins and we ended the year in the same mid-tier type bowl of the past 7 seasons. 8 wins is great, but it's almost as if people forget this team sputtered at the end. I love Duzz and think we're moving in the right direction, but jury is still out and I don't know if I'd classify our redirection as dramatic at this point, sorry.

It is near impossible for Pitt to beat out ND for local recruits.......especially rich kids from a prestigious Catholic HS. I would have been surprised if they went to Pitt.

Unless I searched the Rivals database wrong, and it's very possible, Pitt hasn't lost out to ND on a Central kid in quite some time. Regardless, it was still a sting to see these two go. It's still early though, who knows.

I don't consider myself a self loathing Pitt fan nor an internal optimist about the program - just a realist, and as I see it this week definitely dented the national public perception image of the University.

I see people getting on the OP, but did I see correctly that Barnes went to Ben Howland and offered him the job and he turned it down? Howland's at basketball power Mississippi State for heaven's sake in SEC football country and turned down coming back to Pitt in the ACC. What's that tell you? Howland would know both places and he picked to stay at Mississippi State. Mississippi State, not UCLA, not Kentucky, not Indiana but frickin Mississippi State!

I'm the op. The only person who has said no is Sean Miller. Archie was never called and if someone reached out to Howland it was a rogue booster, not the AD or search firm.

Ben Howland used Pitt and his Players and left almost as bad as Todd Graham and it came back on him. Ben Howland and Steve Pederson always had their selfish own goals to go after their own dreams. They both came to Pitt to get there and left about the same time as well.

Ben famous quote was I would not leave Pitt except to fulfill my Dream being at UCLA. UCLA grew tired and fired him. No one wanted Ben for a while just like Pederson! Howland got what his integrity and word to his Pitt Players and Recruits deserved. UCLA Players, Recruits and Administrators learn not to trust Ben words either. They gave it back to him like he gave it to others. Ben's praise of Pederson and criticism of Pitt when Chancellor Gallagher fired Pederson was an indication he never knew about Pitt Traditions lost under Pederson and reborn under Gallagher, Narduzzi & Barnes.

No UCLA Booster is crying for Howland's return and "Bending Words Ben" ended up at a Bottom Feeder SEC BB Program being the best he could do right now and most likely in the future. He could handle the Big East, but he had no place in the PAC-12 and doubt he can cut it in the ACC, in my opinion.

Pederson did and said the same thing, Thank You Pitt and I would never leave except for my Alma Mater Dream job at Nebraska? He lasted 5 years and was fired in 5 Minutes with a Big Buyout that Nebraska was happy to pay just for Pederson to leave.

Nebraska's Alumni & Fans do not welcome him back to events either. No other program one wanted him and Pitt's Nordenberg brought him back for his own reasons. Yet, when his name is mention Big Boos are loud and clear, so much for their legacies.

Chancellor Gallagher fired Pederson within 5 months to the delight of cheers in 'The Pete"! Pitt paid Pederson off so it could move Pitt forward without such selfish egos that put themselves ahead of the university?

An Interim never before A.D. also was able to find a coach in weeks not months like Pederson's was unable to attract? Even Narduzzi has stated he does not think he would be at Pitt if not changes at the Top of Pitt Athletics?

If you lie and run away from one's player's that gave them their all to you, and say it was about fulfilling one's dreams, then fail there too, there is something wrong with you, and what about the University Players and Fans Dreams you promised with big words you back away from for only you? No one wants "Howland's Hell" back, and it is just a way to get his name back out there by his Agent, in my opinion. There is no "I" or "H" in Team or "S" or "P", Pitt gave all it could to both, and both left and so be it.

Nordenberg took a big risk on Jamie Dixon at a time when the Big East and Pitt Athletic Department was in ACC Expansion and disarray. The Pitt Recruits stood by Jamie and Jamie came through because one could trust his words and deeds. Jamie was very young but brought to a Highest Basketball Peak in a very tougher Big East in Pitt's Modern Basketball Era. Beat UConn, Duke and Cuse and won Big East and #1 Seeds in the NCAA.

Jamie Dixon did not lie or walk out on his Players but met with them and told them, he is leaving to go back and help his Alma Mater. Jamie helped advise them into the Big East & Big-12.

This is pure class and dignity and I don't see Jamie looking to grab Pitt Verbal Recruits at this time, although maybe some will follow. I'll leave that to the Recruits! Jamie lost his Sister and worked hard at Pitt and for that Foundation and expects no thanks, just knows it helps others. All Pitt Alumni & Fans can proud of Jamie Dixon's 17 years at Pitt, he did not lie, did not put himself ahead of his recruits, players or university for selfish gain, he just did the best he could and now will do the same for his Alma Mater.

Even Jamie's Buyout will be a Buyout that helps Pitt find a New Coach, unlike being pocketed by Pederson's Buyout but like many said, here, giving Pederson to leave was worth every penny and I would not want one dime going back to binging back Howland either. Both praised each other but lied at Pitt and are best be gone from Pitt!

Chancellor Gallagher and his own circle of Pitt Tradition Adviser with finding coach Narduzzi in weeks not months, and adding A.D. Barnes 6 months later, all wanting to remain and be at Pitt.

As well as, seek out renewing Pitt Alumni and Fans opinions on bringing back Pitt Traditions, recruiting, Winning, and Branding will find a Basketball Coach from that kind of class and dignity versus what Pederson and Howland could not and did not have within them and glad to be rid of them.

Pederson's poison is still around too since Pitt Alumni Coaches and Graduates in Miller and Calipari both could have been named as Head Coaches Pitt before Howland? Archie was never offered a Scholarship at Pitt so went to NCS!

They remember like many Pitt FB & BB Alumni, Former Players and Fans how they were treated by Pederson as many Alumni and up to Gallagher, Narduzzi and Barnes to find a Great BB to change that too?

Thank you, I like to talk to people and get their feed backs and then link sources they give, as well as read and be informed on issues that interest me on Boards. I ignore the majority of topics and threads every day and limit my subjects on those interests. If I read something on Pitt I will link it too, to share it.

I like to learn from others that can do it too, just me being me, and do not mind if others differ.

Joe Montana picked ND over Pitt.

That was really a crushing blow. While he was at Notre Dame, Pitt won a national championship...without him.
