And Gallagher for hiring Barnes.Pretty self explanatory...stallings didn’t bring in a single ACC level player outside of maybe frame and he is a bench guy.
JC has his work cut out for him, but man is it bad that the 3 best players are freshman...they just need help.

I can only hope you are just angry and don't really believe your own words... Capel did not have time too , as you say , make this his team. He did a great job in a short time period recruiting the best class possible. Frankly, I'm surprised at the outrage, everyone knew we were going to have a lot of growing pains and are lacking bigs... then when it happens you make a post like this. What's next, fire Capel?
A lot of teams through the years had freshman as their 3 best players. Some even cut down the nets. Imagine that.
I guarantee you they weren’t coming off an 0-19 ACC season and a coaching change.
Your post might be one of the best definitions of a strawman I’ve ever seen.
Yes it’s a shocker that a team with only three legitimate D1 players got rolled by a team filled with 4 and 5 star players. Capel is a horrible coach.
Capel went 4-3 with a team of 4 & 5 star players.
This game shows what happens when you try to play North Carolina basketball with Pitt-level players. Capel needs to realize that Dixon’s success was not built on out-recruiting teams that he’ll never be able to out-recruit, but by building a system that can win with inferior talent.
Capel is a mediocre coach. That's obvious over his decade long head coaching career. If he is going to win at Pitt, he will do it with superior recruiting.
Typically, a great recruiter can put a good product on the floor by year 2 or 3. Pitt didn't hire Capel to find players to develop. He needs find freshman he can win with. I know that isn't a reasonable expectation for year one. But going forward it is, ...if he is truly the recruiter he is hyped to be.
Capel was also an extremely young HC, all of his experience coming well before he turned 40. I'm thinking the time at Duke as an assistant had some impact on his coaching abilities. I don't think its to call him a mediocre coach until he has his recruits in place this time around.
Capel will not out recruit North Carolina, or Duke, or Louisville, or Syracuse. If his system is predicated on getting better players than them it will fail. Today we saw that failure in action. Sure these aren’t all his players, but even if he recruits the best he can, he still loses this game if he tries to out athlete them. That was because JD largely didn't go after the top talent. I don't think Capel really needs to worry about how we succeeded or failed in the past.

He's mediocre and that may be generous. He couldn't even cut it for a month at Duke without Daddy K having to step in.

These Pitt players/Capel recruits play harder, they hustle more, more athletic, but they are not good basketball players from what I can see. Also they do not play smart basketball as shown by their bad shot selection.
Except for Johnson of course.
Uh Chris Mack coaches UL...We could and should be able to match Syracuse in recruiting. I would agree--not with UNC and Duke--I agree there. Louisville without that sleeze Petrino? We should be able to come close enough in recruiting to them that it won't be a huge gap, IMO.
All that being said--today's game was not really about the overall relative quality of players. It was about our lack of decent to good big men--no more than that. Johnson, MacGowens and Toney will be fine high-level ACC players. This game would have been fully competitive if we had a solid post player and power forward to go with those three.

Let me say this though I said it before. We got lucky to get Capel. Flat out. He’s a good coach. A good recruiter and a good person. We got lucky. We had a good coach Dixon. But we forced him out for his buddy and heather came in and did a smart thing. She got a guy that could and would turn pitt around. We got lucky. The first acc game against five star recruits is not the end result of what Capel will do. We will win 6 acc games. Next year we will be a bubble team after that it’s top 25.

He wont out-recruit Duke or UNC. He COULD get somewhat similar players to Louisville and Syracuse. But heres the thing, all we are asking is to finish in the Top 8-9 in the ACC and get to the dance. He will get there
Wrong! Capel needs to be his own coach and run his own program and totally disregard what past coaches did here. You have no idea whether Capel will turn out to be a great recruiter and elevate this program. Sounds like you have given up already. Wah, Wah , Wah! I guess we should start figuring out how we can create a system to win with inferior talent! Give me a break! This game shows what happens when you try to play North Carolina basketball with Pitt-level players. I wasn't impressed with Capel's coaching today in all honesty. That being said, I still believe in him.Capel will not out recruit North Carolina, or Duke, or Louisville, or Syracuse. Yes because theres so much coaching he could have done with only three legit D1 players against a roster chock full of 4 and 5 star players. Should he have gotten them to shoot better, miss less free throws,
Moving the ball on offense should certainly be a priority. He can coach not forcing the drive to the lane when it's not there, and coach how to play against a zone. He can coach how to box out to get the rebound, and how to use the drive to the lane to find an open man...
Not bagging on Capel, but these were glaring weaknesses I saw today.
When you're starting 3 freshmen they will make freshmen mistakes; especially against a team as big and talented as North Carolina. Also, look at the competition that we've played against. Add in who our front line players are practicing against. The things that work in those games and practices might not work against good competition. It's a learning curve. It's a process. We've already lost one good coach. Give Capel and company some time.He can coach not forcing the drive to the lane when it's not there, and coach how to play against a zone. In other words, your goal is to be the worst of the Jamie Dixon years? He wont out-recruit Duke or UNC. He COULD get somewhat similar players to Louisville and Syracuse. But heres the thing, all we are asking is to finish in the Top 8-9 in the ACC and get to the dance. He will get there
He’s a very good coach- at a cash rich program with a ton of talent in his region.WOW
Is he another sleeze like Petino? Otherwise, Capel should be expected to recruit nearly as well.
